Suspicious vehicle near Pentagon (Updated with suspect’s ID)

| June 17, 2011

UPDATED at 10:55 am: His name is Yonathan Melaku, a Muslim, and he’s a Marine Corp reservist according to Bill Hemmer on Fox News channel.

It is being reported that one person has been arrested and two are being investigated in regards to a suspicious vehicle and perhaps some bookbags near the Pentagon;

Route 27 between Arlington Cemetery and the Pentagon and other roads have been closed as police investigate a vehicle found in the bushes on the side of the road, a Pentagon official said. The road closure will affect commuters on their way to the Pentagon, the official said.

A suspicious person found at Arlington Cemetery tipped off police to the vehicle, the official said.

Some of what I wrote above comes from a live Fox News broadcast. Steve Doocey also reports that the vehicle contained al Qaeda literature and spent 9mm shell casings. He also reports that authorities are preparing to do a “controlled demolition” of the vehicle. That ought to wake up DC.

Jennifer Griffin reports that police found 5 pounds of ammonium nitrate inside the vehicle.

More from Fox News;

The man arrested is a naturalized U.S. citizen who came to the country from Ethiopia, a source told MyFoxDC.com.

The Fort Myers Police Department encountered this guy last night and he fled from them and when captured he wasn’t very forthcoming with answers from the police. The FBI reports that inside the backpack found on this suspect was a 5-pound sack of something labeled as ammonium nitrate but they are now calling the substance “inert”.

That also ought to wake up the ri-tards who thought terrorism went away and it would be all unicorn farts and rainbows after OBL slipped into the drink.

Recon attempt by whoever his handlers are. They were waiting and watching to see what the reaction would be.

That’s what it looks like.

I wonder if research on this story will turn up incidents of jihad sympathy in this Marine Reservist’s past that were overlooked by superiors, á la Major Nidal Hassan?

Marooned in Marin

The guy was arrested at the end of last month for suspected grand larceny, breaking into 27 cars in Leesburg, VA.
