7th grader questioned by Secret Service for “threat”

| May 18, 2011

Old Trooper sends a link to this story, I’m sure you’ve heard about already;

I was waiting for the video from Fox and Friends this morning who did an interview with the mom, but it doesn’t look like they’re posting it.

I don’t see how the Secret Service can get away with interviewing a minor without a parent present. There seem to be an awful lot of stories going around about law enforcement agencies overstepping their boundaries these last few weeks.

And further, as I read it, he only made an educated statement, and not a threat. Facts is facts, unless of course, you are a narcissic bastard.

To play devil’s advocate on this I am sure that the school shootings that happens during the 90s and a few in the past few years that people are afraid to be the one to miss anything that could be considered a warning sign for a possible violent episode. The idea being that if he is not afraid to make possible threats against the President that
the person will not threaten his peers or teachers.

Because I think that is the age were you can be tried as a adult depending on the act. But we shall see what happened with this one as more info comes out.

Old Trooper

That’s ok, Jonn, by the end of the month, the courts will have moved the goalposts back to make this perfectly legal, as has been the track record of late.

ROS

The kid’s father is apparently an indigo bunting.

If what you wrote in your blog is what the kid wrote in FB, there was no threat there, either implicit or implied. I’ll bet the mom could find a lawyer who would take this case on a contingency basis.

Oh, and you forgot your /sarc tag when you said you’re sure we’ve heard about this!!

Susan

OK, I’ll ask. “indigo bunting”?

I’m not surprised by the response, though. All my family’s in Europe, and there is so much more news in relation to threats to Obama and his family. It’s not being broadcast here in the US, for obvious reasons. So preemptive measures will be taken. Just so happens that this child’s mother was indignantly opposed to a questioning.

Old Trooper

Well, anon, we have laws protecting our minor children in this country. From what was said on facebook, there was no threat to the President and there was no need to skirt the law in order to question the minor child without his parent present.

Obviously, that runs contrary to what you think; but who cares? The law wasn’t set up to please you.
