The Rumor Doctor ferrets out Jasper Lake
Earlier this month, Sporkmaster lit into phony soldier Jasper Lake. His blog post caught the attention of Stars & Stripes The Rumor Doctor, one of our newest fans, who used the assets at his disposal to investigate Lake.
Lake’s company commander at the time said Lake was not considered for the Medal of Honor.
“I remember Lake, but it’s really unfortunate that he or others are pushing for this recognition that was never considered for him,” Maj. Kevin R. Golinghorst told The Rumor Doctor in an e-mail. “He and these organizations should be proud of his service and leave it at that.”

Sweet. I now have to wonder what he has really earned. Best news I have heard all day.
Spork–
from the article: “But according to his Army record, Lake’s highest award was the Army Commendation Medal.”
True, but I am not sure how a badge would rate. Because if it is going by medals only there is still the question of if his CAB is legit.
There is a guy, a Rick Gray, that seems to be his guidance guy out there in AZ, and I have promised him that I would keep him updated on what we find out on this Jasper dude. I just sent him the link to the article above. Last time I talked to him, he was all antsy and cocky about a slander lawsuit against me or “whoever is writing this stuff”. I stopped him to tell him that I was merely forwarding info to him so that we could work this all out. Slander? Now, that is a good idea. Slandering the good name of all veterans with some Stolen Valor.
Looks like he will have some explaining to do since he was the one that put the Purple Heart on Lake. Also it was more the on his blog, he was sending twitter messages to people under his name. Must not have bothered him that bad.
Ok. This is bull. I was the brigade deputy commanding officer from our redeployment in sept 2005 until the brigade left ft lewis to move to villseck frg in may 2006. There was never any nomination for the moh in the brigade. The highest valor award was the silver star and lake wasnt a recipient. I’m certain such a nomination would have come to my attention.
Interesting, because he is claiming that everyone put him in for it.
Jasper Lake’s story is an odyssey, so much so that it is his own Platoon that nominated him for the Medal of Honor while he was in the Middle East.
Well it never happened. I;m a bit slow but I think I would have caught that one. Probably downgraded at squad level.
Yep and there is another thing that I thought was interesting was that on his blog posting asking for money he said that he could provide supporting documents. But when asked by the rumor doctor he changed his story by saying he never received any documents with the medals from our Jon Doe aide.
“…..he never received any documents with the medals from our Jon Doe aide…..” And the dog ate my homework.
I’ll take full responsibility for losing the paperwork…for a substantial consulting fee of course.
