Good on Canada!

From CNN:
TORONTO, Ontario (AP) One of the first U.S. Army deserters from Iraq to seek refugee status in Canada has been ordered deported.

Jeremy Hinzman said Wednesday he was ordered out of the country by September 23 by Canada’s Border Services Agency.

Hinzman deserted the U.S. Army in 2004 after learning his unit was to be deployed to Iraq. He refused to participate in what he calls an immoral and illegal war.

Naturally the lefties are crying. This here was my favorite part:

Back in the States, when his orders for Iraq came, Hinzman felt he had only two choices: disobey tem and risk prison, or flee the country.

Prison was not an option. “I have already missed a large chunk of my young son’s life and I was willing to sacrifice any more lost time with him, especially during his formative years,” he said.

I look forward to the day when the son asks him “Hey daddy, what did you do during the war?”

I heroically ran away to Canada, like the Brave Sir Robin.

Or he could say, “Well, I shoveled sh!t in Louisiana.”

I went over to read that article about Hinzman on the “Common Ills” blog and what struck me is that they’re calling Hinzman and Brandon Hughey “war resisters”. Hinzman and Hughey are DESERTERS.

Gramps

I thought desertion in the face of the enemy called for the death penalty.

Frankly Opinionated

Gramps:
That was back when our leaders in Congress were in possession of “A Pair”. Before the “PC” (spell that Progressive Communists), crowd determined that American security was not important. Sheesh- you are as old as me!

May this gutless, hate-filled, un-American, and anti-military TRAITOR rot first at Fort Leavenworth for the rest of his natural life, and then ROT IN HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(unless, of course, he repents of his sins/crimes!)

TSO-
Good one. Yes that will be the question, won’t it. He’ll probably spin it into a Nasty American tale and then use the kid as an excuse for his own cowardice.

GM Cassel AMH1(AW) USN RET

I guess he will be spending time in that wonderful resort in Leavenworth, Kansas. The United States Correctional Barracks.
Just for fun, go to the UCMJ and look up Desertion, Article 85.
The little scumbag is not a “war resistor”, he is a DESERTER.

So, the long arm of the law finally makes its presence felt. It took awhile but better late than never. How much time with his son will he miss now? He should have taken his chances in Iraq. Justice served. War resisters? More PC crap. Rochester_Veteran is absolutely right.

This nut is a Chomskyite. Need any more be said?

509th Bob-
Good one, although it would be nice if he has to tell his son one day, “Well, I made big rocks into little rocks in Kansas.”

Marooned in Marin

509th Bob, you beat me to the punch! I was thinking of the same line. I love that movie.

I understand people who dodged the draft… don’t agree with them, but can understand that they didn’t want to be in the military, didn’t want to fight in a war… all that “flower power” crap. The idea is alien to me, but I can sort of understand it (but I don’t condone it.)

But when you GO to the Army, ASK to be enlisted, and take the oath… there is NO excuse for running away. This dumbass dirtball should be making little rocks out of big rocks until his son is in college.
