Obama’s latest “Come-to-Bush” moment

| March 8, 2011

Yesterday, the Obama Administration told us that the previously evil military tribunals that were held in Guantanamo are an important tool in our war against terror. Of course, this is the first I’ve heard that we were at war and it’s against terror for several years. I’m also pretty sure that Guantanamo was supposed to be closed over a year ago. I guess campaign rhetoric is hard to stack up against reality. From The Boston Globe;

Obama made the change with clear reluctance, bowing to the reality that Congress’s vehement opposition to trying detainees on US soil leaves them nowhere else to go. The president emphasized his preference for trials in federal civilian courts, and his administration blamed congressional meddling for closing off that avenue.

“I strongly believe that the American system of justice is a key part of our arsenal in the war against Al Qaeda and its affiliates, and we will continue to draw on all aspects of our justice system — including [federal] courts — to ensure that our security and our values are strengthened,’’ Obama said in a statement.

Yeah, just as a reminder, it was a Democrat-controlled Congress which was opposed to closing Guantanamo. Funding for moving detainees was cut out of last year’s budget. The folks who voted for Obama didn’t get the president they wanted. All of those promises just melted away in the light of the world’s realities. He’s kept up the wiretappings, renewed the PATRIOT Act, kept Guantanamo open and resumed military tribunals. Weren’t those the big issues Democrats had with Bush policies?

The other fantasy-driven political herring that Obama dreamed up seems to be fading away as well: Operation New Dawn.

I don’t see the media refer to ‘Operation New Dawn’ whenever they refer to current military activities or casualties in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The media reports always say “This is the Xth number of servicemen to die in (OEF or OIF)” or “Petraeus is commander of ISAF as part of OEF.” Even Petraeus Wikipedia bio fails to list Operation New Dawn under his “battles and wars” listing.

Oh, and one other point. Notice how the “War Is Not the Answer” and “No Blood for Oil” zombies on CNN and MSNBC now talk about how U.S. military intervention in Libya is necessary.

Yeah. War is not the answer, that is, unless it helps raise Obama’s abyssmal polling numbers. Arrrghhhh!!!!

Rant concluded.

Out.

Give it time. The left will have a host of reasons why this isn’t like GWB at all and you people, on the right, are just showing how stupid you are by not realizing that.

It’s sad when all you can say is that an entire U.S. Administration is nothing but a bug on the windshield of reality.
