Olbermann quits
ROS sends us a link from CNN which announces that MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann abruptly left his “Countdown” show last night with viryually no explanation, From the New York Times;
In a closing statement on his show, Mr. Olbermann said simply that it would be the last edition of the program. He offered no explanation other than on occasion “all that surrounded the show – but never the show itself – was just too much for me.”
Other than his two or three real fans, the right wing blogosphere is hardest hit since for the last several years, his only viewers were people looking for blogable material.
The Times continues that volatile Lawrence O’Donnell is taking Olbermann’s place = I’m sure viewer habits won’t change.

For 16 months that jackass was on during breakfast at the chow hall, telling me how the war in Iraq was a terrible failure and US troops were committing war crimes.
In a kitchen full of onions I still wouldn’t shed a tear for him.
“Quit”? Or asked/demanded to resign? The latter is more likely. It is remotely possible that the numbers crunchers at MSNBC put 2-2 together and got -3. While this will not save the network, it may sorta, kind of slow the downward slide in ratings. And yes, this right wingnut, conservative, tea party type will miss his loving compliments of our movement/aims.
See Ya, Kieth. DLTDHYITAOYWO
He did a “Worst Person In the World” segment for years, defended his vitriol after the Rally to Restore Sanity, and then tried to blame right wing rhetoric for Tucson. Maybe someone told him to quit being an idiot, decided that was too difficult, and quit.
AFN, (for some ungodly reason) carried his show. God alone knows why. (I could not get Hannity, nor O’riely) and his views express witlessly, and with something just short of a boil, well. . . its something that you kinda want to respond in kind. gald that shit is over with. Personally I’m going out to the smoke shop to get myself a nice stogie to light up. This calls for a celebration
Keith who?
What kills me is why the news industry allows their politics to get in the way of making money. Seems to me the best way to increase your revenues would be to compete with Fox news from the right.
Depending on who you believe, apparently Comcast (as NBC’s new overlord), didn’t think too highly of Kweef’s penchant for coloring outside the lines. He has two more years left on his contract and will be paid $7m a year…but here’s the kicker…Comcast is under no obligation to release him from the contract and allow him to pursue another venue for his show. In other words, if they wanted to, they could keep his dumbass off the air for the entire period of what’s left on his contract. Will that happen? Likely not. I’m guessing he’ll enter into some sort of agreement where they give him a percentage of what’s left on his contract and let him go his merry little douchebag way.
I think he quit to be the new White House spokesman……
I think that a rock pile at Leavenworth might be suitable for him…
Claymore, I read at Newsbusters that Kweef, has a no-compete clause in the termination deal he signed. So, hopefully, he won’t be polluting any airwaves for a while.
And just WTF are the people at MessNBC thinking, putting the other toilet mouth, O’Donnell on, at all?
Sorry, that was me….Fumble fingers
Hollywood Reporter is saying it was all about money. He wanted more, was holding out, and MSNBC had no idea if he was going to sign the package or not. Apparently not.
I guess Kweef bought into the idea that his thoughts and ideas were more important than NBC trying to cut it’s losses.
But, it’s a good bidness model, when you’re bleeding money from your bosses, go to them and demand they pay you more.
surprised no-one mentioned that this happened at exactly the same time GE’s leader was named to the economic advisory board replacing Volker. This is no coincidence, folks. A clear attempt to distance msnbc, comcast and GE from that douche in advance of the 2012 elections removing a gigantic whipping post from the right. By the way, Immelt was named an advisor to Obama, GE was then reclassified as a bank so it could become the largest recipient of TARP funds and then CEO Immelt is named head of the outside advisory board to Obama. huh..where are all those screaming pinheads on the left that had such a problem with Bush/Big Business ties???
JonP, it’s just that Obama’s intentions are good, so it’s OK,now. It’s the Messiah doing it, and so, the professional Left is all OK with it.
And, it probably is an effort to tone down some of the ravings on MessDNC prior to 2012, unfortunately for them, they’ll have to rid themselves of a whole lot more of the ravings that pass for discourse over there. MOF, if they get rid of all of “screaming pinheads”, they’ll have to show reruns of the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in the 7pm-midnight time slots.
Upnorth: if they did that their ratings would triple into the single digits overnight.
I didn’t know that msnbc had anything other than Lockup on the air….
Ding Dong the witch… oh never mind that was Pelosi. Ding Dong the head flying monkey is dead.
Jason–they do–Chris Hansen trolling for perverts.
“By the way, Immelt was named an advisor to Obama, GE was then reclassified as a bank so it could become the largest recipient of TARP funds and then CEO Immelt is named head of the outside advisory board to Obama. huh”
Yup, the GE corporate welfare bums own MSNBC, which employs that guy Rachel Madcow who bloviates about the horrors of corparate malfesance on his news show all the time…

On Immelt, CEO are hired to make the company more valuable. By going the Progressive, Green political route, Immelt guaranteed steady income for GE and its investors for many years to come given Senator Reid’s mission to block any legislation that may change that.
When one reviews all the cap-&-trade and other Green legislation, GE’s fingerprints are all over it.
On Olbermann, my view is influenced by Ed Morrisey’s: Olbermann was no longer indispensible to MSNBC. He was the anchor for the network until similar personalities such as Maddow, Schultz, and O’Donnell came on board. Prima Donnas don’t last long when their neither the prima, the donna, or even the janitor.
what a toxically right wing blogsite. you guys are sick http://www.alternet.org/story/149639/what_the_hell_happened_to_keith_olbermann?page=entire
An anti-capitalist as well as an anti-Capitalist, apparently.
Yes, the big, bad Right controls the media and creates hatred for the left. Absolutely. One conservative channel in a sea of liberal idiots has that much power.
I’m guessing you also cry when someone eats a goldfish cracker, the big meanies.
