Vet tackled shooter

| January 9, 2011

74-year-old Colonel Bill Badger tackled Jared Loughner while he was reloading his Glock according to telephone interviews with Fox News. Yeah, you go and try to find the story somewhere.

Col. Badger was also shot in the back of his head before he tackled Loughner. According to Col. Badger, someone whacked Louchner with a folding chair while he was reloading. That gave Badger an opportunity to grab his left arm while someone else grabbed Loughner’s right arm and they forced him to the ground.

I guess it’s more newsworthy when the shooter is thought to be a veteran than one of the guys who ended the shooting is a veteran.

Thank you, COL Badger!! God bless you, sir!! Always a sheepdog!! God bless you and the others who took down the shooter. Only God knows how many lives you saved —

Alana

Col Bill Badger was already a military hero and he just showed his heroism once again. Many thanks to not only Col Badger but the other 2 individuals that assisted in stopping this tragedy. Who were the other 2??

ROS

Was the Colonel killed?

Frankly Opinionated

JONN, JONN: You “guess it is more newsworthy,,,,”. Isn’t that a given? I wonder how many different ways this tragedy will be twisted, distorted and outright lied about in the future.
John Kennedy was not my favorite president, but he was MY president. The distortions surrounding his death are ridiculous. The same will come of this tragedy, and are already starting.
GOD Bless America, and GOD bless the families who are so torn by this imbecilic idiot and his possible partner(s).
“The King is dead, long live the King!” He has not taken anyone away from government, only from US!

Godspeed to the fallen, thank you Col Badger.

Yeah I can hear the left and ol’ purple lips … ‘Veteran assaults young man during stressful period of his life instead of talking to him gently’ … ‘Eric Holder plans investigation into Veterans assault on alledged shooter … Mr Holder states the crazed trained to kill Veteran should have called 9-1-1’

TD–you forgot Obama saying that the Colonel, “Acted stupidly.”

Was the heroic Colonel related to Maj. Stephen Mark Badger, who was killed running at Kreutzer after making sure his troopers exited Towel stadium in the 1995 shooting rampage?
If so, courage is deep in the DNA of the Badger family.

Yes, the shooter and the shooter’s victims is more newsworthy than one of the four guys who stopped him.

Nevertheless, I didn’t have to look very hard – I found 16 articles immediately.

[…] the man who shot Congresswoman Giffords this weekend.  We know at least two of their names, one, a 74-year-old veteran of our armed forces, the other a 20-year-old gay college student, an intern for the Arizona Democrat: 74-year-old […]

God speed and his Peace and comfort to the victums and thier families. God bless you Col. It also appears that someone may have learned a thing or two from watching WWE. Folding chair, cool! The lady that grabbed was pretty brave also. She had me until she started on the Palin/Rush rant. Did anyone else catch that interview. Shep Smith is such a pandering pussy. Once again ,God bless the people that subdued the Jagoff. Shame there wasn’t someone packing there that could have stopped this from happening or minimised it. Of course they probably would have arrested as an accomplice.

Dirty Al the Infidel

I meant to say the lady that grabbed the spare magazine before the shooter could reload. Sorry.

It is a known doctrine in the Army that the best chance to survive a near ambush is IMMEDIATE and VIOLENT action AGAINST the ambushing force. In this case, Jared.

[When the shooting starts, you’re either a combatant or you’re a pop-up target.]

P.S. I’ll wager Badger is a combat-arms type. Likely infantry.

Chuck Pelto:

Jeez, Chuck(les), I run into you everywhere! 🙂

Yes, that’s correct. Doctrine states that, for example, if caught in an L-shaped ambush, the only proper way out is to immediately attach the short leg of the L.

Surely there are military awards that the good Colonel is still eligible for…
A Soldier’s Medal, perhaps?
Army Regulation 600-8-22 states that “The performance must have involved personal hazard or danger and the voluntary risk of life under conditions not involving conflict with an armed enemy. Awards will not be made solely on the basis of having saved a life.” It is the highest honor a soldier can receive for an act of valor in a non-combat situation.

Let’s start a petition!
