So Mr. Wolf talked me into an interview with Mother Jones…

| October 14, 2010

Mr. Wolf and I had a three-way phone call with Adam Weinstein, a copy editor at Mother Jones Magazine. Oddly enough the subject of hemp hats or hydroponic agricultural techniques never came up. Adam, a Navy veteran, wanted to ask us about the VFW PAC issue.

I don’t remember any mention of the Tea Party nor do I think that what Mr. Wolf, Bev Perlson and I started can be considered “astroturfing”, unless Wolf is getting some cash from some deep pocket sugar daddy that I don’t know about.

Weinstein got his shots in against, Allen West, Ilario Pantano, the Tea Party, Republicans, Pete Hegseth, Move America Forward and several other organizations. He opened the way for the narrow-minded commenters.

So much for my reach across the aisle.

Thanks to ponsdorf for linking us to the Free Republic forums.

By the way, if this is your first visit here, everything I’ve written about the VFW PAC issue is at this link.

I guess it was your turn to take one for the team!

Old Tanker

WOTN, you’re in there too! All in all, not to bad of an article, although it maybe tried to paint this as a Tea Party within the VFW thing more than just the membership saying WTF??

Wow. There is some world class stupid going on over there in the comments:

“Perhaps the reason the PAC doesn’t support the tea party candidates is that the tea party/Republicans don’t support vets. Republicans love to go to war, but after the troops come home, they forget about them. Look at which party supports vets. Guess what? Its not Republicans.”

Democrats support military veterans? Riiiiight.

And apparently all the military veterans who are running for office and are supported by the TEA Party and Republican-voters, they don’t support veterans. Riiiiight.

Just world class ignorance at that place. Sad.

Another commenter is whining that we haven’t moved to a single-payer universal healthcare system. Wow. This isn’t reaching across the aisle, Jonn, this is wading into the lunatic fringe, as Joe would say. heh

And get a load of this:

“Obama never served in the military, and yet he’s given more money to the veterans administration than any other president in recent history if not of all time.”

Wow. Why did Mr. Wolf convince you to try to get through to these people?

WOTN Editor

Tanker,
In where? I didn’t have nothing to do with M.Jones!
“WOTN, you’re in there too! “

Michael–seems to me that as I look over federal budget data for the last 30-40 years, it’s GOP presidents who have increased VA funding more than Democrat ones. Matter of fact, I see here that it was a Democrat president (Clinton) who actually REDUCED VA funding. And you certainly can’t say Obama is increasing funding at anywhere near the same rate Bush did.

Last night in the Reid-Angle debate, Angle went after Reid hard for is “war is lost” quote actually demanding that he apologize to our troops for his demoralizing and WRONG statement. His response? He supports troops and veterans and even has been endorsed by the VFW.

“He supports troops and veterans and even has been endorsed by the VFW.”
==========

Just what I suspected would happen, as I noted in the previous post on this. The damage has been done, as the candidates endorsed by the VFW-PAC can now go around touting the “endorsement by the VFW”.

Also, apparently Reid claimed he was friends with GEN Petraeus. Riiiiight.

The good news? Even the Left thinks Reid lost the debate.

Michael in MI

Just heard Rush play the part from the Angle-Reid debate last night where Angle hit him on his “This war is lost!” statement. He responded with “I have the support of the largest veterans organization in the country, the Veterans of Foreign Wars blah blah blah”.

The average voter will watch/hear that exchange and not know that the VFW does NOT support him, but rather a rogue PAC.

WOTN Editor

In other words Michael, he was wrong on two counts. The PAC, not the VFW endorsed him. And the American Legion (largest) didn’t say a peep one way or the other on him, as per their own by-laws.

Any bets on whether the MSM will correct his error on either front?

Michael in MI

Well, to be fair, maybe he said “one of the largest…” instead of “largest”. I’d have to listen to the quote again to be certain. But he did definitely play the “the VFW endorsed me” card in the debate to blunt the accusation/insinuation from Angle that he is anti-military/troops.

“Any bets on whether the MSM will correct his error on either front?”

Unless there is an “R” after the politician’s name, the MF-ing media doesn’t bother with petty things like fact-checking politicians on their statements. So I’m betting they completely disregard his statement and focus on trying to smear Angle.
