Finally, I got my phone call from VFW PAC

| October 14, 2010

I feel so special now after getting my call back from last Thursday. Of, course, I had to call back and leave another message and I had to identify myself as the guy who started it all in the first place (after Bev Perlson sent me the email and Mr Wolf gave me the megaphone). I told Michael H. Wysong, the treasurer of the PAC, that I was his last defender on the internet…that most of you want to quit and join Vets For Peace or something (I kid). I told Mr. Wysong that the Board had two options, either rescind their endorsements or turn their logo and name back to the VFW.

Mr. Wysong said that the board voted 8-3 to rescind no endorsements. He also said that the only endorsements that were considered were Boxer and Klein. They weren’t aware that any other endorsements were disputed by the membership. So there you go, they’re not listening. I disabused him of that notion and told him that they should rescind every endorsement – because if two of them didn’t deserve the honor of being endorsed by the VFW, none of them did.

So, I told Mr. Wysong that if they’re so pigheaded that they’re going to continue endorsements of candidates who have for 10 years done their best to undermine the troops, they can fully expect to be disbanded by the general membership. And that I would be at the Convention to make sure it happens. I might even wear my ‘c’ cap for the first time in public.

So basically, I spent ten minutes pissing in the wind. But I still hold out hope that the Commander will do something other than talk tough.

Unfortunately, it seems the damage has already been done. They just used the “better to ask for forgiveness than permission” route. Or, in this case, “better to tell them to piss off later, than ask for permission now” route.

Hopefully, this won’t be an issue in this election though. i doubt anyone who is so pissed off at the Democrat Party would turn around and vote for a Democrat, simply by seeing a “endorsed by the VFW!” claim. Granted, tens of millions of people did vote for “HOPE” and “CHANGE” in 2008 so… I guess we’ll see.

But that aside, I hope everyone in the VFW has gotten the message from the PAC leadership and decides to disband the PAC at next year’s convention.

crucible

That’s it. I stopped being a member several years ago as my local area doesn’t have a formal “VFDubya” location, and my whole idea, romantic or otherwise, of VFW was I could just go on down and have beer with my fellow vets at the “VFW” once I became elidgeable way back when.

So I let my membership lapse.

But now, I’m so pissed, not only am I not going write a pissy letter letting them know I’m not going to join because of the PAC being douches, I’m going to write them a letter specifically letting them know I’m going to REjoin. Yea rejoin, just to help support either getting the PAC boardmembers dismissed, the PAC disbanded as a whole or forced to stop using the VFW namesake. Pick one.

F them.

(Thanks for TAH blog btw-I’ve lurked here for some time.)

You know Crucible. That is a great idea. I am going to join them for just the same reason.

Jonn;

Pretty much the same attitude I got from him when I spoke with him. He didn’t bother explaining as much to me as he did to you. I think that I’m going to call again. This time with more vitriol!!

Thor

Well, I almost feel for Mike Wysong, as he is the only one answering the phones and the only one actually there at the PAC. He’s the one catching hell from everybody. I, once again, expressed my dismay with their endorsements. He informed me that they are all volunteers. So……. they don’t value their jobs because there is no intrinsic value to them except for living high on the hog while courting the politicians. Perhaps I need to dig up the other board members phone numbers and publish them??

WOTN Editor

Thor,
You find those numbers and/or email addresses and I’ll be happy to blast them across the site!

WOTN Editor;

You may find the list over at Black Five and on my blog as well. I even took it further and have several snap shots too…

WOTN Editor

Street,
If you’re talking about the list of Department contact info, we listed that in the original article posted on the 7th or there abouts.

If you’re talking about the list of PAC board members, I don’t see it. I think it would be good for Veterans to take their beef straight to th miscreants that are defying the VFW, its leadership, its members, and Combat Veterans everywhere, i.e. potential members.

Thor

Well, an industrious Geek could easily find those addresses & ph numbers of their homes….. just sayin’…… 😉

I’ve found six, but had to leave for our post meeting.

The VFW PAC’s Board Members info. I believe these to be accurate.

Ya know? There are much better channels with which to deal with this instead of calling their homes? Care to guess how many *hotheads* may call and go off on someones kid if they answer the phone??

Good Lord, where did common sense stop at? Geez!

NR Pax

Anon, posting home contact information like that is not a very good idea.

NHSparky

Agreed. That needs to go bye-bye.

Old Trooper

While I agree that it’s not a good idea to publish home numbers and addresses; their’s is public knowledge and I have seen it up on different web sites, before now. Kinda like Valerie Plame.

Thor

Personally, I don’t see a problem with their info being posted as it is available on the internet. All one has to do is look a little. Looks like someone took my advice and did the research. It’s just all in one place right now.

At least the Ladies know how to “clean house”…was that sexist…sorry, Ladies. Post Date: 10/14/2010 12:00:00 AM Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars October 13, 2010 Dear Sisters, In light of the VFW’s position on the most recent endorsements by the VFW Political Action Committee, effective this day, October 13, 2010, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars is suspending all fundraising and promotion of VFW-PAC for the remainder of the year. Any monies raised for PAC up to this date should be forwarded immediately to PAC for those purposes in accordance with the laws concerning political action committees. Department Award No. 5 as seen in the 2010-2011 National Program Book on Page 20 is hereby suspended for the remainder of the year, and the program title will hereafter be known as Legislative. Loyally, Cortina Barnes National President Ladies Auxiliary VFW http://www.ladiesauxvfw.org/html/auxiliary_news.html …So I wrote to thank them. Dear Cortina Barnes, National President, Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, I write to express my sincere gratitude for your demonstration of leadership as shown by your courageous and patriotic public stance distancing your organization from the outrageous, feckless “VFW-PAC” in light of its absurd endorsement of scoundrels and military-loathing politicians whose actions in prior years would have been considered treason. I suppose if Benedict Arnold had been in Congress and had had a “good scorecard”, the VFW-PAC would have endorsed him, too. I join with the millions of military veterans and their families who are shocked, disappointed, and outraged by the VFW-PAC’s endorsement of unworthy incumbent politicians running for reelection who have demonstrated contempt for the military and for military veterans and have undermined our national security, many having given aid and comfort to the enemy and having made public statements denigrating the military and military leaders and demoralizing our forces while they are engaged in combat with a barbaric enemy. Those endorsements may well provide the margin of victory for these scoundrels over true pro-veteran challengers, taken down by the VFW-PAC’s own “friendly fire”. What a travesty. On the battlefield, we never “sided with… Read more »

The PAC will be dissolved next meeting. Hope those assclowns have another gig lined up.

WOTN Editor

Jon, with the help of those Veterans willing to take on the fight, like Jonn, there is a good chance that the PAC will be dissolved, but only if the calls for desertion by like minded Veterans is ignored.

To those that believe the good of VFW Posts is too important to forfeit, To those that don’t want to see Vote Vets and the IAVA take over a Century old Institution, membership is key to having a voice in the future of the VFW. Take back what is yours!

Old Iron

Cheers to you Opaobie for that letter! These idiots that control the VFW PAC appear to be completely oblivious to their constituents… much like another group that is about to fall from grace.
