Three States under DoJ investigation for absentee ballots

| October 14, 2010

In addition to the lawsuit DoJ has filed against New York for failing to mail absentee ballots to voters in time for the votes to be counted, New Mexico is also facing penalties as well as Illinois. Illinois claims that they’re in compliance, though;

Officials with two of Illinois’ largest jurisdictions — the Chicago Board of Elections and the Cook County Board of Elections— said Wednesday that they mailed ballots on time.

But Courtney Greve, spokeswoman for the Cook County Board of Elections, said people can still request overseas ballots until Oct. 28 and receive them via fax or e-mail. She said the board has gotten about 300 of those requests.

So why would the DOJ be questioning their compliance with the MOVE Act?

All of this sudden concern about absentee ballots (read that; military votes) is fine, but why wasn’t anyone concerned about it a year ago when it could have done some good?

I’ve noticed that all three states are Blue States. I wonder what that means?

“All three states are Blue States”? Coincidence, purely that, nothing to see here, move along.
Seriously, no one knew, from 2008, and earlier, that this is an ongoing problem? I thought this was the smartest administration in history?

They are the smartest, don’t you know?! No one said it’d be to the benefit of anyone but themselves.

I’d like to know what the holdup is. My husband votes absentee ballot (he’s disabled) and has for YEARS. Those ballots come 2 or 3 months early. Somebody please correct me if I’m wrong, but this is not a new thing anywhere, is it?

Read. My. Lips. They hate the military and all it stands for and “we” are a threat to the power base.

Pinto,

Some states had primaries within the 45 day limit set forth by the MOVE Act…I know the obvious answer is to move primaries to an earlier date, which some states didn’t. You must live in a state that already had their primaties scheduled well outside the 45 day limit. I know here in Michigan we were already ahead of the 45 day limit so it was a non-issue here. I’m not making excuses, these states had plenty of time to comply and chose not to…

defendUSA and Old Tanker:
Thanks for the info. And if they are intentionally messing around with peoples’ ability to vote, then THEY are the threat.

Are you kidding? As of Feb 2012, NY had not even decided where the Congressional District lines would be, much less who would be eligible to run in which district. So, how could they print primary ballots for districts that had not be determined?

Hell, they’ve only had 18 months to figure out those lines, but it takes a LONG time to figure out how put enough of their party voters in as many districts as possible.
