Terrorists targeting zombies?
There’s a report of a suspicious package near a cemetery in New York City (Fox News/AP link);
Officers responded to Marble Cemetery in Manhattan’s East Village around 10:45 a.m. Monday after a worker called 911 to report a black bag. Streets around the area remained closed on Monday afternoon as officials investigated.
Fox News has updated the story with the report that police claim they’ve detected C-4 explosive. Someone was taken from the scene in an ambulance on a stretcher.
Be sure to mention your own crackpot theory. At this point, everything is valid.
UPDATE: Apparently the explosives were dug up about 18 months ago by a cemetery worker while he planted shrubbery. The black plastic bag, containing eight 1 1/4 pound sticks of C-4 explosive, sat idle until this weekend when a volunteer at the cemetery found it, put it in a trash bin and then called police few days later after asking his friends and other unnoted explosive experts in his neighborhood. Everyone in NYC seems unconcerned. I have lots questions, however.

Someone was just setting a trap for the vampires and werewolves that are hiding out in the cemetary.
At one point I would have said that a dozen pounds of C-4 was not really at the top of the hazard list for that neighborhood, but hey-there’s a Whole Foods there now. It IS a little unusual, if you get past the fact that half of the windows in the neighborhood have posters supporting Weather Underground.

It was an insidious Republican plan to destroy the Democratic voter base.
So why is nobody asking if this was a dead drop? Come on, so what if there were no detinators? that was in an earlier drop. At least we’re not hearing about a bus blown up by C4
Let’s count the “say what?” instances in this story:
1. There was C4 buried in the cemetery.
2. A cemetery worker just happened to dig it up, but left it in a trash-bag somewhere in the cemetery and forgot all about it.
3. Random volunteer stumbles across the bag that no one else has noticed for a year and a half.
4. Mr. Volunteer just tosses the bag in the trash, apparently after inspecting its contents.
5. Only after asking some “folks from the ‘hood” over a couple days does he decide to call the authorities.
Right, I can’t even get past number one on that list without the whole thing sounding completely absurd.
