Wikileaks leaks part 2.

| July 25, 2010

Since it worked out so well the last time, they decided to try it again.

A huge cache of secret US military files today provides a devastating portrait of the failing war in Afghanistan, revealing how coalition forces have killed hundreds of civilians in unreported incidents, Taliban attacks have soared and Nato commanders fear neighbouring Pakistan and Iran are fuelling the insurgency.

But given how many things were ignored out of the 2007 video from Iraq, just think of all the possible discrepancies that could be present with 90,000 records? Some of the claims have been as such:

• How a secret “black” unit of special forces hunts down Taliban leaders for “kill or capture” without trial.

• How the US covered up evidence that the Taliban have acquired deadly surface-to-air missiles.

• How the coalition is increasingly using deadly Reaper drones to hunt and kill Taliban targets by remote control from a base in Nevada.

• How the Taliban have caused growing carnage with a massive escalation of its roadside bombing campaign, which has killed more than 2,000 civilians to date.

Yea except that if you look at each one there is not much there to see? We uses our troop to capture/kill any enemy leaders that we can. It is not the troops job to take that person to trial. Second the Taliban had Singer Missile launchers for awhile now paired with what weapons were left over during the fight with the Soviet Russia. Third we used them to provide air support and can stay in the air longer then any manned aircraft. Finally do you really think that the Taliban will reduce this if we were to leave?

Oh this one is a keeper.

2007 Polish troops mortared a village, killing a wedding party including a pregnant woman, in an apparent revenge attack.

Apparent? Yea and that almost got three SEALs jail time, Apparent my ass,

But don’t worry about double checking, Rethink Afghanistan is already running this and it is doing it’s paces around the net. Of course there is no one is even thinking about how this will effect those that are fighting in Afghanistan.

ADDED Sporkmaster

The White House has condemned the release stating what we already know.

“The United States strongly condemns the disclosure of classified information by individuals and organisations which could put the lives of Americans and our partners at risk and threaten our national security,” he said in a statement.

People who argue against “extra judicial killings” are really blinded from reality. In war, part of the mission is to kill the enemy ie Taliban. All battlefield deaths are “extra judicial.” Somehow I don’t see it being practical to hold a trial for each individual soldier before a battle. On this goofy logic, d-day would be delayed as allied forces identified each German in Normandy and held a trial, and vice versa. Even more striking, I have yet to see people who complain about such killings actually cite the part of the Geneva conventions or the protocols that says we need to hold judicial proceedings before killing a properly identified enemy combatant.

“How a secret “black” unit of special forces hunts down Taliban leaders for “kill or capture” without trial.”

Yeah? So what?

CPT Me

Main point of my above rant is that air strikes or drone attacks are just as “extra judicial” as conventional ground battles. In other words, they’re of the same level of legality under the laws of war. It’s those who advocate for holding western nations and Israel to the rules while allowing terror groups and “third world” types a lesser standard.

CPT Me

In their naive minds, they abide by the notion that if they can force our troops home, by any means necessary, then there will be no war, death and destruction. Of course history and human nature has proven otherwise, and if they like having “stuff,” then you can’t kill the global economy, which means we will always be connected to the world. But again, I don’t think they are all bad people… Just naive and blind to reality and blind to the law.

Instinct

I have only one question. Is there such a thing as a non-deadly surface to air missile?

Anonymous

Yeah there are they are made of nerf and are propelled by unicorn farts. Gotta reduce that carbon footprint.

Sporkmaster:

Sadly that has come up in a a few posts I have read in the past.

AW1 Tim

It is mt fondest hope that those responsible for leaking these docs be found in the local landfill with two taps to the back of the head.

Anyone who leaks such info should be targeted and disposed of in a manner to call attention to the type of death as a warning to others.

I have no mercy any more for these ass maggots. It’s NOT a game, and when you expose these sorts of classified documents, you ought to be counting you life expectancy in minutes.

Old Trooper

I don’t think anyone wants to know what my thoughts on what should be done to the people responsible for releasing and publicizing classified material.

I’m guessing there’s a certain PFC in custody who is contemplating spending the rest of his life getting butt-slammed by Bubba, and beginning to wonder if it was all worth it.

Doc Bailey

unfucking believable. Can I please kill these assholes now? pretty please?

DaveO

#11 NHSparky: don’t give him hope. The PFC is alleged to be gay.

Now for my question of the day:

With the format of our communiques, reports, and such things as seals and letterhead and so on very much ‘out there,’ how many of these files are real? How many are fake?
