What gall
Can you imagine what would happen if roles were reversed in this situation? This is Shirley Sherrod, the Agriculture Department’s Georgia director of Rural Development at the NAACP convention last week;
According to Fox News, she’s been fired, but you have to ask yourself, who created a climate in which people think they can speak like this in public? It’s certainly not the election of a Black President that did it.
Now, I was told once, loudly, on a bus full of black people during my nightly commute, that “I don’t like white people on my bus.” I chalked it up to one ignorant fuck – but then here’s a room full of them. But the ignorant fuck in the video was playing with a man’s livelihood.
Is that what the Civil Rights movement was about?

As a long time resident of South Carolina I’m not real surprised by this video. I suppose thats a sad commentary but, here, everything is about race. She’ll be swept under the rug and be forgotten in a few weeks, the media will see to it. She doesn’t fit the narrative.
Jonn–the situations don’t HAVE to be reversed. Just throw out the accusations and let the shitstorm fly. Just ask the Tea Party folks about that one.
Oh, and my latest favorite spin from the NAACP and MSM–the New Black Panther Party is an invention of Fox News Channel? Absolutely priceless.
I have been turned down for school scholarships, start dates for certain school programs, jobs, etc. because of the color of my skin and my gender; it’s called affirmative action and it is government mandated discrimination.
BTW it was a federal job and classes that had federal oversight that I was turned down for, so yes, it was government mandated discrimination based on race and gender.
The NAACP just decided that we of the Tea Party Movement are racists! Now that is GALL! Is not the HAACP, even by its very name, Racist? This wench may have been “forced to resign”, as the press has put it, but I would wager that she is just shuffled off to a different Fed job. As in; “We takes care of our own”, mentality.
Political Correctness, Hyphenated heritage, etc. are destroying what we once called “Our Country”.
MLK,Jr saids something like: “I see a rainbow of people.” Not in the least racist, but on one MLK Jr day, I went into a local city park only to be told: “Whatchu doin’ here, this is not yo day.” Typical, not at all exceptional thinking by those blacks who have chosen to be Ghettonesians.
Oops, second “NAACP” above should not have been “HAACP”, morning fingers typing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Ignorance. We saw an example of it when the purple lipped kenyan was elected and the black vote numbers were so skewed. What was it, something like 95% of the black vote was for obammy? I can’t remember the exact percentage but ignorance and racist. Mights well thrown incompetence in the pile as well. Its seen everyday in the workplace, on the bus, everywhere. Pitiful
Anyone who is in the bag for The Pied Piper will say that this is not something that should matter.
However, I say she should be fucking fired for her absolute transparent actions, by her admittance. The job she was hired for was supposed to be to provide services to those who met the criteria. She clearly used her personal judgment and it was wrong. As i like to say, who died and made her boss?
Again, I use the meme-“If any Bush admin employee had done this” well, admit it, there would be hell to pay and it would be on every goddamn front page. UFBably despicable.
“who created a climate in which people think they can speak like this in public? It’s certainly not the election of a Black President that did it.”
Sure as hell was!!!
Racism, pure and simple.
Also, I believe, a felony. Investigation and prosecution clearly warranted. Will it happen, doubt it, rug sweeping in media and beyond in progress. Feh. So much for the rule of law.
Wow. Less than 24 hours from blogosphere to forced resignation. Nice job.
She’s admitting to institutional racism…and I had the naivette to think Jesse Jackson was full of shit when he said institutional racism still exists. My apologies to the good Reverend, apparently he was right all along…
“Who created a climate in which people think they can speak like this in public? It’s certainly not the election of a Black President that did it.”
In my daily recon of the leftist blogs, I’ve discovered that this poor woman is being victimized…she was clearly telling the assembly about how she has overcome racist attitudes directed at her. They cry about ‘context’. They’re pointing to the bigoted white farmer (who’s supposed demeanor couldn’t possibly be attributed to the fact he was losing his farm and was being forced to grovel at the feet of a Federal bureaucrat for help…nah…racist). They’re excusing the discussion as a closed audience…you know…it’s a ‘black thing’, we wouldn’t understand. I’ve yet to see anyone describe this as a lynching, but it’s still fairly early and I have nothing but the highest expectations for my leftists friends. In regard to vile sentiment, they rarely disappoint.
Can you imagine what that farmer must have said to her, to make it sound like he was “superior” to her?
“…I’ve worked hard all my life…raised my kids…paid my taxes…never taken a dime from anyone…hate to ask for charity…love my land…can’t make ends meet…”
I grew up in the deep South. We were farmers.
This IS one where I can say: “Been there, done that!”
Oh, and by the way…
I’ve done my share of field work, too!!
Has anyone watched the video in it’s entirety?
I have.
Much like the man who shot at the thieves who were trying to run him over (but were really not trying to run him over) there is more to this story than just this snippet of video.
People should get ALL of the facts before posting.
I will say I think what she did was wrong, but it was 24 years ago and she learned a valuable lesson back then. In fact, as it turns out, she worked with that same farmer for a number of years becoming friends with him and his wife.
The WHOLE STORY that she was telling (and you don’t get to see in this snippet) is that she learned from the experience that both being poor and helping others transcends race. The point, or moral, she was trying to make was completely lost due to editing.
This is simply just another biased cut job by the media.
People really should learn to dig a little further instead of taking things at face value.

#15 V5:
Apparently the one thing she didn’t learn from what happened 24 years ago is that you don’t say things that can get you fired when the cameras are on.
Best to keep confessions between yourself and whatever god you answer to.
PintoNag,
I don’t disagree there. And I’m not saying what she did 24 years ago was right. I’m just saying there’s a lot more to this than one little snippet that the media is running with.
V5
V5; Question for you. If any white person were to use the phrase “One of their own people” with regard to a person of color, you would take the same approach that we should divine through context what they were saying?
And can you honestly say that?
If you can, kudos to you, but frankly, I highly doubt it. I don’t give a shit what the context is….
V5, your absolutely right, there is more to this then just a snippet. Things like the audience obviously agreeing with her actions at a NAACP meeting. Yeah there’s more to it then just a snippet. But don’t let that get in the way of waving the wand of absolution over her head.
The NAACP (National Association of Asshole Colored Progressives) is a black racist organization which has only one goal: getting blacks over on everyone else. It is by its very definition a racist organization since it only makes any effort on behalf of blacks at the expense of and detriment to others. That they should even attempt to claim that they help anyone else is ludicrous and easily disproved. And that is just fine, they can be as racist as they want, because they are not white, and therefore are SPECIAL.
Just let any slimy honkies set up an organization like that and watch the shit hit the fan as the race baiters like Sharpton and Jackson piss themselves and go frothing into the distance…
The WHOLE STORY that she was telling (and you don’t get to see in this snippet) is that she learned from the experience that both being poor and helping others transcends race. The point, or moral, she was trying to make was completely lost due to editing.
I disagree. And frankly, could care less about The WHOLE STORY. I’m not feeling all too generous when these very people are scurrying around crying ‘racism’ at every opportunity in an effort to divide and effectively silence political speech they don’t care for. The NAACP was all too willing to use fabricated stories of people being spat upon, lied about racial epithets being tossed around and reused pictures of astroturfed morons who made no secret about their desire to discredit the various tea party gatherings by carrying misspelled and/or bigoted signage. You accuse us of taking snippets out of context, but the accusers are guilty of far worse and with much more sinister motivations.
TSO (#18)
You should care about the context, because the context is important.

Finrod (#19)
Go back and read all of what I wrote.
I never “waved a wand of absolution.” Nor did I condone what she did. And you’re a moron if you think I did either.
I said that there’s more to this story and that she was telling the WHOLE STORY as a lesson in her life and what she learned from it.
—————
John and TSO,
There’s enough hate out there without the two of you propagating more of it here on this site with tiny culled pieces set up by the extreme right media.
I think you do your readers a great service with some posts. But I also think you do your readers a terrible disservice by posting half researched hit-pieces like this… and this certainly isn’t the first post like that.
With the posts and comments I’ve been reading this site has degraded to be no better than a right wing version of the Daily Kos. Hate is hate; it doesn’t matter if it’s left wing or right wing hate.
It’s a shame, but you can now count me out of your loyal followers. I won’t be reading or commenting here any longer.
Regards,
V5
That’s funny, I just went through all of V5’s comments and they’re generally approving of what we’ve written – except this one. Yes, I read the full context of the video at Ace and I don’t see how she can vindicate herself. Sherrod admits that she underserved the client because of his race, that she took him to work with “his people”. It doesn’t matter if she had a “come to Jesus” moment and a life lesson afterwards, does it?
I’ve never treated a client that way, nor would I for any reason as superficial as their skin color. Can you find any racism in any of my posts which go back nearly four years? My best friend, a black Democrat in Baltimore, lurks on this blog. He’d be the first to let me know if I was doing something offensive here.
Send me the URL to your blog so I can tell you how to run yours.
Oh the huge manatees.
I was kind of waiting to see if you also felt that referring to others as “you people” or the like was objectionable, and yet nothing…. See, I didn’t write this post. Jonn did, but since I will be held to standard for things I didn’t write, let’s at least place it into context. I don’t care who you are, if you are in a position of trust, placed there by the people of the US through their representatives, you have an obligation to not engage in such asshattery. When she said she didn’t give the guy her all because he was white (and she did say that) she violated that trust. Now, if, as apparently here, it happened prior to her federal employ, I would say that this categorically voids the requirement for such employment. I don’t care if there was a come to jesus moment or not. I’m not a forgiving sort, that is not for me to decide. But what I know is that when you a) prejudice a person based on race, and b) give them no service, or sub standard service, when c) under a duty to do so, you forfeit all rights to federal employ.
Now, show me in this context where I am wrong. She flat out stated she did not do all she could for the man, that she did only what she had to do. She further stated that her reasoning on this was race. So what part am I misinterpreting?
If I said, I would give you a more full answer, but since you are a Polynesian, i will give you a half-assed answer, I suppose you would be fine with that?
The in context thing was meant ironically to you, since your the one about context. I missed my /sarcasm hashtag thing.
I’m quite surprised the Democrats didn’t stick up for her, hell they stuck up for a former klansman (Sen. Byrd)
Well well I am truly hurt and torn by your vicious counter-attack. I would go into detail on why your abject venture into delusion and unicorn land is absolute bullshit but TSO summed it up marvelously and John put a nice big cherry on it all.
Would you forgive a right wing politician after doing what she did, I doubt it. You fail to address that crowd of cheer leaders in the video as well. You see this is what really pisses many of us off, the utter hypocrisy. But don’t worry, I don’t really care what you think and I am sure you don’t care what I really think. So, bye and good riddance.
V5:
Verbal spanking! Grow Up!!
I’ve seen “hate” on a couple of blogs…let me tell ya, it don’t look like nuthin’ hea. (Yeah, sarcastic, I know.)
Seriously…face information fearlessly. Particularly the kind you don’t like. You might be surprised by what you learn. A coin generally has two sides; there’s a reason for both of them.
Just because we argue with you doesn’t mean we don’t value your opinion.
I, for one, want to see you come back.
IMO,the context matters because, if it doesn’t, we are behaving exactly as the left minded thinkers that took many things out of context for their own purpose.
You can fault someone for being honest, but that would mean you kinda suck. How else do people learn lessons so they can share with others? It’s pretty shallow not to use the context.
I have to say, that although I said she deserved to be fired, I stand corrected. This person is being thrown under the bus by the WH as I see it right now, and it’s to push their agenda to divide us. Are you not allowed to make a mistake and learn from it?
Sherrod claims the Tea Party did this to her…nope. The WH took away her right to explain herself, and the NAACP did not defend her. Why?
Is someone lying? Is it Sherrod? The WH? Where is Breitbart in this? Does it make any of you just a tiny bit wary that the WH is attempting to usurp due process even if it isn’t in court?
PS…it does not mean she is absolved from doing the man wrong even if it turned out they are friends.
Well not to beat a dead horse, but if you want real context, note the reactions of the audience who have no clue that this woman’s tale later turns into a beautiful afterschool special on how she now has friends who are not ‘her kind’.
There is no way she can vindicate herself. She committed a federal crime based upon her racist beliefs. Because she felt this WHITE man was acting like he felt superior to her (which is bullshit on its face, how the fuck would she know how he felt compared to her?)she CHOSE TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST HIM. The level of discrimination is immaterial. IT IS ILLEGAL FOR A FEDERAL EMPLOYEE TO DO IT PERIOD. She was wrong. Does she know better now, maybe, maybe not. And I can tell you if she did it to one honky, she sure as hell did it to others. The biggest problem here is that the NAACP does not care at all about it other than she embarrassed the race baiters.
Just a thought…..What would Breitbart have done to Dr. King’s “I have a Dream” speech back in 1963? Breitbart could have easily edited it to make Dr. King and the audience look racist and Fox News would have ran with it.
OK, I take you up on that offer ASH. Show me what portion of that speech could be edited to appear racist. I’ll assume for the sake of convenience that all spicing will contain at least 5 words in a row.
See, I could take your post above to say “I have a racist thought” which doesn’t make it so, it makes it editing. So, find me the portion of that speech which could be misconstrued out of context. You want to take “not” out of it or splice it to say something like “I have a dream that the negro is not free”?
Did you folks see the continuing saga on the news last night?
I strongly suspect we’ve been led down someone’s garden path. This whole thing is beginning to show signs of — I’ll put it delicately — aforethought.
