Another Stolen Valor Politician
Doug Sterner sent us this link to an article about yet another politician who claims to have been something he isn’t. This one is mayor of a Chicago suburb;
In his campaign literature, Calumet Park Mayor Joseph DuPar touted his decorated service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
“As a Sergeant in the military, I received the Medal of Honor with (4) Bronze Stars for my Leadership,” his campaign flier states.
DuPar’s military records, which the Tribune obtained from the National Archives and Records Administration, do not list the Medal of Honor, the military’s highest decoration.
Victoria Kueck, director of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, confirmed DuPar is not a Medal of Honor recipient.
“We only have 91 living recipients,” and there’s an archived file on each one since the Civil War, Kueck said.
DuPar, 69, declined to show his medals or discuss them, and his attorney did not respond to requests to set up a meeting to view DuPar’s medals.
The fact that DuPar refuses to answer questions on the subject shows just how little he, or his lawyers, value true valor. As the citizns uncover more information about their mayor, I’m pretty sure they’ll find other instances in which he committed fraud and cost them real money
And this problem is reaching epidemic proportions. There are promises of revelations on some of the cases we’ve highlighted in the recent past.
Category: Phony soldiers
What is the proper punishment for a false claim of Medal of Honor.
Loss of all rights of citizenship especially to vote, hold office and receive benefits.
Minimum of 10 yrs in the worse military prison.
$250,000 fine
I got 2 words. Chicago, Politics. You know if you want to claim an ARCOM, or MSM you didn’t earn I am not going to lose any sleep worrying about it. But to claim to be a MOH winner? Man that’s just wrong.
The Democrats have quite a list of people who “misspoke” about their combat experiences.
John Kerry never spent Christmas in Cambodia. Robert Levy, the disgraced Mayor of Atlantic City never served in the Green Berets. Richard Blumenthal never served in Vietnam. Tom Harkin never flew combat missions in Vietnam. Hillary Clinton never came under sniper fire when she was Bosnia.
Quite a collection of “heroes.”
Amazing. Claiming the MOH when it hasn’t been awarded is right up there with worrying about Guam capsizing because we’ve stationed too many folks there.
Man needs some time off under supervised care.
Maybe he misspoke and meant he’d played Medal Of Honor on the Xbox…
Claymore, you’re right. He’ll be filing a claim for X-Box induced PTSD shortly.
Damn it! When will we learn? Virtual war is not the virtual answer.
I’m gazing into my crystal ball…hazy…I predict that if Du(che)Par explains this at all, he will claim a “misunderstanding”. That what he really meant was that he was awarded the Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal. Which I might buy, but the 4 bronze stars is pretty shaky.
DuPar will deflect, redirect, obfuscate, and blame it on his campaign manager.
SquidThinker; yeah the 4 bronze stars on top of the MoH was the kicker, because as I read it, he meant that he had 4 bronze stars attached to his MoH which denotes 5 awards of it. Now, if he meant he was awarded 4 Bronze Star medals, in addition to the MoH, then he really was a sooper trooper.
Dear Mister DuPar, to quote the great warrior Lazarus, “Everybody knows you never go full retard.”
On top of being a f%%king fraud, he is just plain dumb. The MOH recipients are well known, well documented and very easily checked out.
If I was going to lie it sure wouldn’t be about the Medal of Honor. That is too easily traceable. How stooopid can you get.
Olga, you’re assuming his constituency even cares. The way this works is as follows:
1. Make a Patently False Claim®.
2. Get called on Patently False Claim®.
3. Cry racism/bigotry/conspiracy when you get called on Patently False Claim®.
4. Have Patently False Claim® debunked publicly.
5. Blame others for misinterpreting your Patently False Claim®.
6. Embrace victimhood/blame whitey/pretend to apologize.
7. Have community rally around you.
8. Get reelected.
9. Patently False Claim® forgotten*.
*only works if you’re a Democrat.
How stupid is this turd? A medal of honor with four bronze stars? And for leadership? Add to that the fact that this guy looks dumber than a box of rocks, and it almost makes for comedy on a par with Cho and Bernhardt…
Holy Cow. All this time I could have lied and been a hero? Uh, yeah. My grandfather was right…Oh what a tangled web they weave, when they practice to deceive.
The liars all need a good Texas style shit-kicking, Frye boots and all.
“Value Valor!!!” Has a nice ring to it. I like it!
That pic just screams “Whatchu talkinbout Willis?”
Please folks…don’t POLITICIZE Stolen Valor. It only serves to dilute the importance of confronting this. In the last Presidential Election Mary Schantag exposed a phony POW booked by the local Republicans to speak on behalf of John McCain. The recently exposed Duke Schector (running for a state seat in AZ) proundly displayed a photo of himself and Dick Cheney.
Republicans, while generally IMHO are more military friendly, do not have a patent on patriotism or service. The ONLY MOH recipient in Congress is a Dem (Daniel Inouye), the “most decorated” member of Congress is a Dem (Jim Webb), and the highest-ranking former military man in Congress is a Dem (Joe Sestak).
Stolen Valor occurs on BOTH sides of the political spectrum and Dem’s don’t have a lock on that either. When dealing with this issue…let’s make it an issue of integrity and honor, not of political differences. (FYI–I am a life-time Republican, although I am considering changing my registration.)
Is POW.Net working this case?
The difference Doug is that Republicans will call out other Republicans for Stolen Valor lies, while Democrats will only call out the Posers if they’re in the GOP, and will only make feeble excuses for their own.
That simply isn’t true Ray. Republican House Leadership fought the Stolen Valor Act SOLELY because it was introduced by a Freshman Dem. QUOTE from a Republican Congressman: “We simply cannot allow a Freshman in the minority to get credit for passing major legislation before the election (2006). Further, after a Freshman R began to tackle VA fraud last year, he was “smacked down” by the House R Leadership…essentially told he was a “Rookie” and not to make waves…speaking out against VA Fraud makes Republicans look anti-veteran. So help me, that is the TRUTH. No, Republicans can’t take the high road on this one either. I’m not taking sides, just telling you how it is.
The Mayor of Calumet Park, Illinois (Joseph DuPar)should be ashame of himself, but he is not. It is believed that he is having his group spread the word that he is doing a good job for the village and that he still have a law suit against me for defaming his character (he do). He still have not shown any of those medals in question (The Medal of Honor and 4 Bronze Stars). His Attorney still won’t comment and he is having (ME?) to give a sworn deposition. And, the US Attorney is still looking on (I guess). He has totally disrespected our military and is trying to profit from it and no one cares but me.

There is a huge difference between receiving a “Bronze Star,” which is given for bravery or other meritorious service, and receiving a “bronze service star” for a repeat award of some lesser medal or ribbon for participating in a war or in a campaign within a war as the media reports indicate the mayor actually received. Every serviceman who served as long as Mr. DuPar served knows that difference so it is no innocent error to say that one received four Bronze Stars for leadership when all you actually received was 4 bronze service stars for participation. I have never met anyone who has four Bronze Stars (though there may be some out there today who have four in light of all of the combat action in the two Gulf Wars and Afghanistan and the more flexible standards for awarding them in the Army of today). Never saw or heard of anyone receiving 4 for leadership or any other thing for service in or during Vietnam. If the media reports are accurate about the actual medals awarded to DuPar versus those DuPar claimed, DuPar will lose his lawsuit. DuPar’s conduct is disgraceful with respect to both the MoH and the Bronze Stars. Remains to be seen if Illinois voters will do anything about such misconduct.
How long before the “race” card is thrown? “You wouldn’t be hasslin’ me, if I was “white”.
Personally, I don’t care what color he is. Stolen Valor comes in all shades…
