Flag Day in bitter West Chester, PA

| June 14, 2008

My buddy Skye from the blogs Midnight Blue and Flopping Aces has been pestering me to come up to West Chester, Pennsylvania to cover her pet project, the Victory Group that counters the Chester County Peace Vigil, so I finally relented (I hate driving back into DC after the peace and tranquility of Real America) and I wasn’t disappointed. I’m sure most of you remember that Skye was the blogger attacked by a member of the “Peace” vigil last month, but that hasn’t stopped her from being there every Saturday.

So when Thus Spake Ortner and I met up there, we estimated there were probably 200 bitter, patriotic Pennsylvanians clinging to their flag, their guns and their faith facing about forty enlightened beings ready to surrender their safety and well-being for the sake of world peace. Guess which group is which of these two pictures;

All of the old hippies were out with their tired bumpersticker politics;

It’s no surprise that the peace movement in West Chester would hijack the image of West Chester’s favorite son, Smedley Butler, and quote from his writings in a socialist magazine;

And more timely slogans;

Of course, you can’t put a whole Supreme Court decision on a sign or in few enough words that a Leftist could pay attention all the way through – it’s just easier to call the whole thing illegal.

Apparently the pro-Victory side are uberpatriots;

I wonder to what lie she’s referring. Maybe the lie that the Left is patriotic and supports the troops. What the Tibetan flag had to do our Flag Day, I’ll never know.

But luckily there was a bunch of people on the spot to raise my spirits again;

Did I mention they had bagpipes?

I think TSO almost wet himself.

After the good guys sang the Star-Spangled Banner and recited the Pledge of Allegiance, the hippies figured their job was done and streamed off down the street pathetically chanting “Out of Iraq Now” in those weak little voices they have. In the meantime, we were treated to good food and beer at the Knights of Columbus Lodge up the street. There was speechifying, prayers and more bagpipes. And more Skye;

I had a great time – usually I have to wait to see good Americans when they come to DC…but this time venturing out into the hinterlands paid off for me – I felt privileged to be surrounded by such dedicated and proud hardworking Americans.

I threw together this video of parts of the event, so across America you can get the sense of how the bitter folks of West Chester, PA stand up to the malignant “peace” movement;

ARVE Error: need id and provider

I hope everyone understands that when I say “bitter”, I kid.

And just so you know, when I got back to DC, I was stuck 6 miles from home in an hour-long traffic jam. Yay!

UPDATE: TSO remembers the event a bit differently than I remember.

Skye’s report is at Flopping Aces and Midnight Blue. From her group shot, I found TSO and me – well, the top of our heads, anyway. My head is the one that’s not reflecting sunlight.

Well done… Been there, done that and appreciate it. From whence came the pipers? And the image of TSO almost wetting himself will haunt me for days.

Skye

Jonn,

Thanks for making the trip up to my neck of the woods. It was a pleasure to spend time with you and your wife.

Great video and report – I’m still post processing the photos and editing the videos.

Marooned in Marin

Dittos on the “well done” and Happy Father’s Day to you Jonn and all dads!

Jungle Mom

I love it when you share photos of these events.

Jonn and Skye:
Excellent pictures! Looks like you had a great time in spite of the usual leftwingnut gang of idiots who smell a parade and have to show up with their stupid slogans. One of these days I’ll make it back to D.C. for a visit. We’ll hoist a few!

ladysheepdog

Well done. You capture the spirit of the day well. West Chester is alive and well thanks to all of the patriots who counter the leftards across the street!

If Obama manages to be elected elected president, by stupid American, USA is in for a world of TROUBLE. This guy is Bad News… Remember 1932 they elected Hitler, by lies…… Here we go again…

John, You Rock!! I walk with my flag on Fridays when I am here. It gave me goosebumps to see all those flags against the hippies. Great photos! Thanks for going.

Jonn,
Thanks for covering the ‘American Sheepdog’ event yesterday. Great job on the still shots and the video.

I forgot to tell you that the video was super. I made my kids watch, while I sang along. Bagpipers and Amazing Grace, ouch! If I were there, i probably would have wet myself, too. I know, visuals suck.

Thanks for the wonderful AAR – I just love seeing bitter Americans express their false consciousness with such pride and devotion.

Why do I look bald?

Why do I look bald?

Odd you would react to that and not the description of you almost wetting yourself. Is this a common condition? Remind me to not sit between you and the bathroom. Baldness is just natures way of…

another wonderful essay in pictures. i love this group — read about them not long ago in the WSJ then went to their website for more info about them. they are patriots — they all look so happy compared to the sour puss loons.

somebody needs to tell the moonbat in the hawaiian shirt over the tie-dyed undershirt that they don’t match. 😉

HonestConservative

Wonder day, wonderful coverage.

God Bless our soldiers.

The guy holding the “Inept Administration” sign is a candidate for submission to that website “Men Who Look Like Old Lesbians”. Jon, How long do you think it would take waterboarding “COL Sanders” before he gives up the 11 secret herbs and spices? Look at the shrimp in the VVAW shirt trying to tell other people what’s patriotic. Guess stabbing your military comrades in the back, marching with groups that carried the enemy’s flag and chanted that the enemy would win is patriotic… WOnder if he’s the guy who went to Paris and met with the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese and entertained them like trained money by singing the Viet Cong marching song (We Will Liberate The South) for the Vet Cong and the “Ballad of Ho Chi Minh” for the North Vietnamese. He looks the type, so I bet that if it’s not him, he knows the guy who did. TSO and Jonn, Guess Bradley is still got PTSD from the ass whoopping Sgt Coppa gave him. He didn’t come over to try and run you guys off this time. For the rest of the folks who don’t know the incident I’m refering to, please tell everyone in your own words whether Bradley would threaten, intiminidate or harass anyone like John Grant told the Daily Local in writing. The public has a right to know if their past presidente of Chapter 31 or Veterans For Peace is a liar (with apologies to Nixon). John Grant does produce videos with gaps in the tape that remind you of Rosemary Woods and Richard Nixon. Hve you seen the video John Grant stiffiling a salute while kissing Hugo Chavez’s butt? HonestConservative, Thanks for coming out. Hell of a day wasn’t it? BTW, Karen Porter had a melt down just like she did last September. She lost it and immediately posted a “we won, we won, you have to believe me we won” email. But true to her passive aggressive nature, it started off slaming those on her side who didn’t come. Then she wrote another email a couple of hours later… Read more »

John,
You did a fine job. I have always been for protecting American lives and interests. This is why war is necessary when we are attacked. If there is any way to reach an agreement with the Americans whom are against this war on terror, I think it would have to involve more swift and decisive action. I believe the agreement would have to be something like…
1. We pull out of the war against terrorism. (Make them and the Terrorists happy)
2. We issue a clear statement that any country involved in or assisting in attacks on the US or any of it’s alies we will NOT sent one troop, we will send a device that will turn their entire country into a glass parking lot.
3. After this happens once or twice, I believe we will achieve a lasting peace.

Can we get the Obama gang to go along with this???

If not then their position must be Go ahead and attack us, kill our people, we don’t mind, we are not going to do anything about it…

All I can say is that Bush kept us safe after the attacks on Sept. 11, and that is his primary job as Commander in Chief.

Thank you President Bush!
John

Raoul,
You have a way with words, that is for sure. Where are the emails? Would love to read them.

Trish

Indeed, the sheepdogs were a big success on Flag Day, and we thank all of you who came to support us! As you can tell, we have our job cut out for us with those rag tag misfits from across the street! Raoul has them all pegged! Any time you are free on a Saturday and aren’t afraid to travel to PA, we’d be happy, or bitter, to see you there!

Raoul Deming

Dee, Here it is, Porter’s meltdown. Note how angry Porter is in her monumental passive aggressive way about all those who betrayed, just betrayed her and didn’t show up. Her email was just to let them know what they missed, don’t ya know… This pattern paralells her September meltdown, two relatively quick emails right after the event as she just could NOT contain her rage. They a fitfull night reliving the day over and over and think about what she should have done which leads to two more emails the next morning. #1 [Peace] Festival of Flags for Peace – A really FESTIVE event! Just to report to those of you who couldn’t make it today…and to thank you who did – today’s first-ever “Festival of Flags for Peace” turned out to be truly a joyous, beautiful occasion! We had so much color, so many flags – in addition to Old Glory, we had flags from Argentina and Germany held by natives of those countries – a United Nations Flag, many “world flags,” even Phillies and 76er flags! Plus red-white-blue bunting, all kinds of decorative items – and, as usual, great music. And I particularly enjoyed the bagpipes across the street – one of my favorite types of music! The WCU students led us in a parade for a few blocks, which capped it off just fine. But first, we heard some fascinating biographical information presented by Veterans for Peace representative, John Grant, about Gen. Smedley Darlington Butler, West Chester’s great Quaker military hero who, after he saw the stupidity and reality of war first-hand, became a well known anti-war spokesman, writing the book, War is a Racket. A great time was had by all – we’ll do it again next year! And every year after that! =================== #2 [Peace] Google me! (If you have an hour or so) Yes, that’s right – google this search string: Karen Porter West Chester – for some interesting stuff. In the eight months since the counterprotestor group arrived at the corner of High and Market Streets on Saturdays in West Chester, I have… Read more »
