Geek question, STNG related

| March 22, 2010

I just know I will take a ton of shit for this one, but wanted some help, since Google failed me.

In the Star Trek Next Generation episode of the Inner Light, Picard learns to play a tin whistle. Anyway, the final scene is him playing a song on it. I want to know what that song was. First correct answer gets my long living appreciation. I want to see specifically if that song can be played on a bagpipe as well, so extra credit to anyone that finds the sheet music. Would like played at my upcoming nuptials.

BTW- not frere jacques, the other song.

UPDATE: Damn you dudes move fast. Here is the song:

You mean the song starting at 0:33?

Or is this just some devious ploy to find someone who’s as big a geek as you?

i am in awe of this immense level of geekdome.

VTWoody

What do you mean, since I’m in the wedding?!!? First I’ve heard of that.

I am totally catching the bouquet….

LL

How come you didn’t just ask Wil Wheaton on twitter? @wilw 😀

Caroline

This sounds like that Celine Dion song from Titanic…

Old Tanker

Damn you guys are fast, when I checked in this had zero responses…..I find the damn music only to get beaten by Woody…..

I was going to be a smart ass and tell you it was Frere Jacques…

Old Tanker

I always thought that was called a pennywhistle?

Note to self-read comments before descending into geek search for info. That’s five minutes of my life I’ll never get back.

Blue Cyclone

It is from a real song. According to the folks at

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Ressikan_Flute

They say the following:

“The tune played by Picard in “The Inner Light” was an excerpt from “Scottish Fantasy”, originally composed by Max Bruch and re-composed by Jay Chattaway.”

VTWoody

Whoa…I get to escort the future Mrs.Woody? Sweet deal my friend.
I’ll have to make sure to bring my “tin whistle”

Caroline

and I thought that VT was going to be walking down the aisle with a balding thirty something that shares a name with a famous astronaut…

NHSparky

Caro–you have a bridesmaid named, “Buzz”?

Caroline

Technically I guess he would be a bridesman…

NHSparky

I think this is the point where I start reaching for the brain bleach.

Debra

It’s a beautiful song.

Since you will be having a piper, will you be needing a drummer? (I was a percussion major in college) If so, I’m your huckleberry. I can also play piano, if needs be.

Just sayin…..

respects,

VT… I suspect that “catching the bouquet” takes on a whole new meaning when it’s done with a bayonet.. 🙂

Debra

I can play flute and piccolo…but, well, it’s been a long time…

JonP

Whoa VT. I know its a long winter up there being from Island Pond myself but you knew all that? Get out and do a little ice fishing or something.

Cedo Alteram

Good luck with your wedding.

“Tapestry” has always been by favorite STNG episode. Though the one when the Enterprise “c” showed up is another. They were both on those two recently released DVDs awhile back.

Forgot…

The chubby guy, is from Office Space.

OldTrooper

Yeah, thanks for inviting me to the nuptials, there, gimp.

When is it, anyway?

OldTrooper

I know, dude, I should have put a sarcasm alert in there. I figured if you were in full geek mode looking for music from STNG that you have at least had the date figured out.

BTW My favorite episodes of STNG are when Worf gets his man card back during the Klingon civil war.

Carla

I have a new-found level of respect for ya’ll.
