ATF’s Airsoft blunder

| March 9, 2010

Remember the story last week about Customs and the ATF seizing 30 air guns because, ostensibly, the toys could be converted to real rifles? Well Confederate Yankee did some digging;

* The WE TTI M4s lack any sort of functional gas tube which is integral to an AR15’s operation
* The upper receiver of an AR15 fits onto the lower of the WE TTI M4
* The stock trigger pack in the WE TTI cannot strike the firing pin of a AR15 bolt
* The body of the WE TTI lower is several mils thinner than an AR15 lower, and shims would be needed for any AR trigger pack to work
* The trigger pack of an AR15 appears to be able to fit onto the lower receiver of a WE TTI M4, one of the AR15 trigger pack retaining pins is impossible to insert without major modification, and the hammer isn’t operable with the WE TTI lower.

In short, the gunsmith determined that the entire upper receiver would have to be replaced by an upper from a real M4/M6 type rifle to have a hope of functioning, and a trigger pack from a real M4 would have to undergo extensive modification to even fit. And even when modified to fit, it wouldn’t fire. If this gunsmith is correct, then all the effort to take a $400 toy and $600-plus of real gun parts — plus significant labor from a proficient gunsmith — would result in a thousand-dollar club less functional than the original toy, unable to fire real bullets or Airsoft pellets.

So, if you wanted to spend more money than it would cost to purchase an actual rifle and don’t mind that it blows up in your face on the first discharge, it’s all perfectly feasible. Yay, ATF, for keeping us safe from incompetent boobery.

“keeping us safe from incompetent boobery.”
It’s the Fed’al Gubmint. What kind of boobery did you expect?

John

Next, they’ll seize a shipment of aluminum, because, “given the right time and materials”, said aluminum could be machined into lower receivers capable of becoming M4 rifles in the wrong hands.

Guns are good. It is the bullets that are bad.
Like poison a tiny bit can at times be useful.
Generally, two is a good number to have at one time.
If you can’t hit the deer or the duck with 2 shots you should stick to eating ice cream.

Wearing a gun around your waste (waist?) in to a Starbucks coffee is a really really stupid idea that makes liberals look positively brilliant. Do you want to make liberals look brilliant?

Sure you just might be in the Starbucks when Freddy Kruger walks in. On the other hand the person behind you might decide to disarm you and become Freddy Kruger. You think that does happen? That and much more happens.

Two armed men are arguing at coffe stand. There hands start moving. One man touches the other with his finger by accident. He does not even notice it but the other man does.
He points his finger in to the other mans chest a little bit harder………………I think you know where I am going with this but you will not want to admit it.

Of course if no one in the store has more than 2 bullets no one would be able to do a relatively incredible amount of harm.

I am sorry that I posted this but I got booted off my other project and the articles posted on this website are just to interesting to resist when I have free time.

So if you do not want my ramblings, which seem insane to the readers here, to appear on your website, stop posting such thought provoking articles.

Yes I know that that is a compliment and I certianly do not expect it to be returned that would be totally out of character.
Furthermore do not make to much of it. Gurdian was smart but he was still a Nazi.

Register idiots, not guns.

Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms belong on store shelves, NOT as a government agency.

Curt, after your post I don’t think we have to worry about making liberals smart. I like how you can only see the negative possibilities of carrying a gun. Let’s apply your logic to: an Air Bag; an old lady is sitting in the front seat when a head on collision occurs, the air bag deploys and breaks her neck because she had Osteoporosis. CPR; a man sees another man in a Starbucks have a heart attack, while doing CPR he breaks four to five ribs. Combustible material: someone lives in a wooden house. One errant lightning strike and the whole family could be killed. I can keep going. No one can prevent bad things from happening, that’s a fact. At least these instances occur at random without regards to their surroundings. I could get in a wreck right in front of the hospital. A fire could break out next to the fire station. Criminals wait for an opportunity. Responsible people can increase their safety and the safety of people around them by carrying a firearm on their waist (not trash). I will think about supporting a gun ban when you get rid of all of those cars! An irresponsible person driving can be more deadly than someone with a gun. Numbers taken from CDC 2006. http://www.cdc.gov/NCHS/data/nvsr/nvsr57/nvsr57_14.pdf motor vehicle accidents= 45,316 or 15.1 per 1,000 people Firearms accidents=642 or 0.2 per 1,000 people Firearms intentional self harm=16,883 or 5.6 per 1,000 people Intentional harm by other means (all others)=16,417 or 5.5 per 1,000 people Firearms Homicides = 12,791 or 4.3 per 1,000 people Homicides (all others)=5,782 or 1.9 per 1,000 people The above were taken off of page 35 and 39 of the PDF. So: Cars = 15.1 Guns = 10.1 OR you are 50% more likely to die from a car than a gun. If you take out suicide that number goes to: Cars 15.1 Guns = 5.7. OR you are about 264% more likely to die from cars than guns if you are not suicidal. (I could not see any of the “v” codes for vehicle in suicides).… Read more »
