PLAN Ships Collide While Harassing Philippine Coast Guard

Instant Karma: Watch Two Chinese Ships Crash Into Each Other While Trying To Harass Neighbor’s Coast Guard
John Loftus
Two Chinese ships collided with each other in the South China Sea on Monday while trying to harass the Philippines’ coast guard, video shows.
In a high-speed chase, the China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel 3104 was pursuing the Philippine patrol ship BRP Suluan approximately 10.5 nautical miles east of the contentious Scarborough Shoal, deploying water its water cannon at one point, according to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Spokesperson Jay Tarriela. As the CCG vessel approached the boat, it collided with a larger Chinese Navy destroyer that attempted to intervene by positioning itself between the Philippine ship and the coast guard cutter.
“The CCG 3104 … performed a risky maneuver from the PCG vessel’s starboard quarter, leading to the impact with the PLA Navy warship. This resulted in substantial damage to the CCG vessel’s forecastle, rendering it unseaworthy,” the spokesman wrote.
Footage captured from aboard the Suluan documents the significant hull damage sustained by both Chinese vessels following the collision.
After the crash, the PCG assisted with recovering overboard crew members and provided medical aid for injured CCG personnel, Tarriela said.
“The Philippine Coast Guard reaffirms its dedication to safeguarding all maritime operations in the area and wishes for the swift recovery and proper treatment of any affected CCG personnel,” he said.
Chinese ships collide while pursuing Filipino boat in South China Sea
Dear PLAN, when harassing another country’s vessels at sea it’s best not to look like incompetent idiots. Having the intended victim rescue crewmembers from the offending ships is just rubbing salt into the wound. Thanks to Mick for the head’s up.

What a great video. I don’t speak Tagalog but the Filipino on the CG ship must have been laughing his ass off.
I wouldn’t be surprised if those two Chinese captains are somehow lost at sea while returning to port.
Maybe they’ll “disappear” a la 1984?
My oldest nephew is a seaman in the Philippine Navy, we’ll have to see what his insight on this is.
I’m thinking they are enjoying some serious schadenfreude.
Probably a 200 Proof variety!
Schadenfreude with banana ketchup.
The Phil Monkressity of this situation is not lost upon me.
If they need any more Navy experience over there at All Points Logistics, there may be a couple of Chinese captains seeking asylum available.

Chinese Sailor POV: Current state of People’s “Liberation” Navy.
Edit: People’s “Liberation” Army Navy??? That sounds like a contradiction of terms.
This statement is strange “As the CCG vessel approached the boat, it collided with a larger Chinese Navy destroyer that attempted to intervene by positioning itself between the Philippine ship and the coast guard cutter.”
Was the destroyer really trying to intervene, to keep the the CCG vessel away? If so, it indicates some power play between the CCG and the PLAN. Or maybe the two ChiCom vessels were playing tag-team chicken without coordinating their movements?
Having watched the video of the incident, the PCG ship is maneuvering to stay clear of the CCG pursuer, and came damn close to the destroyers bow itself, as in it passed 100 yards or so ahead of the destroyer. The CCG ship was left with no way to maneuver out of the collision. Part of me wonders if the PCG vessel may have done something dangerous itself, in order to scrape off their pursuit without overt hostilities, and to make the Chicoms look incompetent….
If so, mission accomplished.
And quite elegantly at that.
The other day I mentioned after a commenter had the video link to the collision and hours later, while doing crossword puzzles on the old recliner, “Chinese Landing Manuever’ popped into my head and I Mentioned it on the site maybe a little late. I don’t know the history of how it got that name but the Coxwains operating all our small boats knew it. I was the Snipe A-Div boat engineer and stern bow hook. So we used these utility boats for transporting crew members and Marines into liberty port docks while anchored. A number of times when we were close to the ships accomidation ladder, the coxwain says, watch the Chinese Landing as he approached the ladder, puts the boat into reverse thrust to slow down and makes the turn as the boat lists to one side. I wonder if those large ships could have done the same with enough time. Any of you former Navy Deck apes ever do that kind of evolution. i still wonder how they got that name..
So, a quick Google-fu suggests it has nothing to do with the Chinese Navy itself. In fact, a Chinese Landing is apparently when you land a plane and it winds up taildragging with the nose high in the sky. A Chinese Gangway refers to a boat making an approach to a ship from the wrong direction.
Thank you for the opportunity to learn some random trivia, Jeff.
I wonder why we never had any drunk Marines or Sailors going overboard durning the turning manuevor… almost 60 years since I left the ship. Thanks for that info Lance Coolie,, I didn’t know that there were others Chinese things that I was unaware of besides the Chinese Landing manuever that was used on our utility and motor whaleboats…
They built you lot differently, I’d guess. We had a guy go overboard because he missed the step to get on the boat to go back to the ship. I still laugh at that.
same here, we had one of the crew members step off the accomidation ladder platform and the utility boat drifted away from the platform as he stepped off in his dress blues and one time, I was the boat engineer we were docked in st Thomas VI’s and crew members were boarding and as one of the crew members stepped onto the utility boat, it drifted out a little and the crew member went into the drink dress whites and all.. when we tie up to a dock, we tie the lines a little loose against the bumpers we put over the side.
“Chinese Fire Drill”????
One suspects the term “Chinese” is added to indicate some mass movent of people that looks crazy, for example “Chinese Fire drill”
