Man Shot Over Stolen Valor Dispute

Seattle’s Most Awkward Military Inspection Goes Horribly Wrong

A self-appointed “stolen valor” detective decided to play Military Police at a Starbucks, confronting a wheelchair-bound street musician about his service patches. The confrontation escalated when the wannabe cop started literally ripping decorations off the musician’s wheelchair like some deranged fashion critic.

The musician, apparently fed up with this bizarre uniform inspection, rolled forward and reached into his shirt. The amateur detective, clearly failing his situational awareness test, panicked and shot the guy in the chest.

The shooter then stood around for several minutes casually chatting with paramedics about his gun storage preferences, as if nothing had happened.

Plot twist: This is the same genius who previously made headlines for driving a van into a Trump supporter tent in Florida, proving that his conflict resolution skills are consistently terrible regardless of the political situation.

The musician survived, the shooter got a $750,000 vacation at King County Jail, and somewhere a military recruiter is probably updating their “What NOT to do when thanking veterans for their service” PowerPoint presentation.

His defense attorney’s “self-defense” claim is about as convincing as claiming you were attacked by a birthday cake after you kicked the table it was sitting on.

There are better ways to deal with suspected valor issues
than whatever the fuck that was all about.
TAH for one.

Amateur Historian

Seattle is not my AO.

Hack Stone

Neither is Merritt Island, but we have plenty of volunteers for that mission.

Green Thumb

The False Commander “Phony” Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) would agree.

A Terminal Lance Coolie

Well, now we know where this special snowflake came from, and I’m not surprised.

We Eastern Washingtonians again request immediate and perpetual separation from Seattle’s tyranny and stupid policy making. All Seattleites will be required to remain in Seattle during said split, to quarantine the aforementioned stupidity. Thank you!

Sounds like Commissar type activities. Has anyone checked his whereabouts on those dates?

SFC D

He doesn’t have the balls for direct confrontation.

Berliner

Commissar spends his weekdays “tied up”.

Amateur Historian

None of this needed to happen. If the dude is a POS poser (currently I’m leaning towards him being legit until proven otherwise. I’m sure an FOIA to NPRC is in the works.), you do not lay hands on them unless they do it first. Ridicule, scorn, and getting them arrested if they violated local, state, and Federal Stolen Valor Laws is the name of the game for phony hunting.

Don’t bring a fake gun to a real gunfight.

According to witnesses in the report I read the pistol was never pulled; our victim did pull a knife and may have shown the pistol in its holster as a deterrent to getting beat up. It is hard to protect yourself from someone who is half your age when you are stuck in a wheelchair.

Daisy Cutter

Opposing Counsel: He could have easily removed himself from the danger and/or the bullet’s flight path. We’ve all seen ‘The Matrix.’

Counsel for the opposing party asserts that the individual in question possessed both the opportunity and ability to extract himself from the hazardous circumstances and/or to remove himself from the projectile’s trajectory. In support of this contention, counsel references the widely-viewed cinematographic work “The Matrix” as purported evidence of such feasibility.

Still here in the Gunshine State (AKA Florida), haven’t been to Washington state since 11 April 1987, when I left Fairchild AFB after graduating Combat Survival School.

Besides we have enough weirdos/idiots here, I don’t need to travel to see more…..!

I left the land of perpetual cloudiness on or about 01-AUG-1979.

I have never felt the need to return.

Mike B

I got to Fairchild AFB on 24 March 1987, class ran 25 Mar to 10 Apr, and I flew out the next morning after graduation on 11 Apr heading back to George AFB, California.

I’m in West Delray Beach Fl. Palm Beach County and things are quiet in my 55 and over Village and will see what happens after the farmers sold their land and building assisted living and condos like crazy.

Mike B

I’m in Panama City (Callaway), live in a nice subdivision that is quiet for the most part.

But I tend to keep clear of Panama City Beach, where all the tourists and crazies congregate. Except for when we go to the gunshow, but my SIL and I are both packing lead slingers.

For real.

A couple of fucking clowns, for sure.

I am in Florida, Dade County, and I haven’t been to Washington State since I PCSed out of Fort Lewis back in January 2011.

However, I have felt the urgent need to ask a couple of “vets” about their service. I cannot imagine myself walking around as a civilian with all that bling. It looks so fake to me. But then, I am not retired yet, so who knows. Maybe old people miss their youth’s adventures so much and that’s why they wear all that crap.

Mike B

I occasionally wear a unit hat, or unit t-shirt but that is it. No vest, no patches, no embellishments etc.

My hat will get some remarks from some old timers, as they recognize the “Stray Goose” logo or aircraft on it. The good ole MC-130E Combat Talon.

My late dad, my FIL, my brother, and myself all retired Air Force don’t wear much military oriented stuff. My oldest son a prior Marine is the same way.

I once had some Harvard Grad Rocket Surgeon try to grill me about “When was I in Vietnam?” while I was wearing my Afghanistan Veteran hat and he got all huffy when I questioned his level of literacy.

Haven’t worn my Ndubs nor my dress uniforms since I got out. Probably don’t fit me anymore.

I went to an event a few years ago, a traveling memorial to those lost in the GWOT and came across a rather portly Biker with a slew of shiny military bling on his vest, but when I asked him about where and when he was in the Nam, he suddenly had a slew of memory lapses, things about what year he was there, what unit, yada-yada, he was a small-timer that I considered not worthy of any further conversation.

Odie

Was it any of these that sent him around the bend?

According to the report I read, the shooter ripped off some patches after demanding that the panhandling elderly man in the wheelchair failed to prove he is a veteran. The wheelchair bound man then produced a knife and showed he had an airsoft pistol in a hoster. The shooter then took several steps back pulled a .45 and promptly shot the oldster in the chest.

I predict the shooter will be convicted of criminal assault with a firearm. In Oregon law, if you provoke a physical altercation and then use excessive force, you cannot rely on self-defense. Oh, and witnesses say the elderly victim never drew the airsoft gun; it remained in its holster. The shooter has TDS and previously attacked a Trump campaign table with a vehicle and was convicted of that offense. He is likely one of the cuttlefish’s fellow travelers.

Odie

Hate to say it, but with as crazy as the PNW, hell, just about the whole west coast has become, the vic will probably be found guilty for not trying to get away from the situation he found himself in.

Should I include a snark tag?

rgr769

I mistakenly believed the incident occurred in Portland. But the case outcome should be the same in Seattle.

Forest Bondurant

Hopefully, the shooter (Greg “TDS” Timm) gets convicted, sentenced, and confined soon, so his ability to have access to firearms is curtailed.

With the firearm enhancement, he faces 5 additional years (mandatory) tacked onto his sentence.

pookysgirl, WC wife

I’ve only been through SeaTac, not Seattle itself. Their USO was excellent, however. Lots of volunteers willing to hold military kids just so Mom could get a (bathroom) break.

Blaster

Seattle! Enough said!!

Marine0331

Was the goofball stolen valor cop even a veteran himself? If not, why the hell would the goober care what the man in the wheelchair was displaying military-wise. Either way, the pinheaded moron deserves to be in jail.

Storyteller

Exactly. Who TF does he think he is to demand anyone prove anything to him.

A CA State Senator and his aides and camp followers asked me a question at a dog and pony show. They listened to my story and laughed with me at the end; however, it wasn’t enough for the Senator. He said it was a fine story but, he didn’t believe a word of it. The look on his face was priceless as I responded, I don’t care if you believe it or don’t.

The point is, I try to give the other guy the benefit of the doubt. I have been fooled for a while by some phonies but eventually they trip themselves up by going too far. To tear a device off someone is going too far. I’ve seen legit Airman’s Medals on people whom I wouldn’t have thought had the stones to get off the sidewalk. I’ve met phonies who didn’t know a left flank from a flank steak and I’ve challenged them. Not in fisticuffs but in legit paper. The next phony I have escorted off the premises won’t be the first.

When encountering the phony, take a breath, keep cool, listen, and calmly act.

I have seen some real crazy shit over the years. One of the funniest was “basically” legit.

If you have never run into the Mississippi State Defense Force before, you have missed a real treat!!!

I was at Camp Shelby MS 2-3 years ago and I kept seeing people in Army OCP uniforms but with the USAF colored tapes, patches, rank, etc.

I was going to meet a couple of teammates at the all ranks club for dinner when I was finally able to get close enough to see the organization name tape, Mississippi State Defense Force ,,

I was listening to a couple of “Colonels” talk while we were in line. #1 said to #2, “wow, your command voice and presence was AWSOME this morning. I didn’t know you could bark it out like that!”

#2 replies to #1,,,,, I swear to God Almighty, he said this,,, “you knew, that I spent 4 years in ROTC in High School, didn’t you?”

Strange days indeed!!!

I wasn’t going to say a word! I mean, they were colonels (06s) and I was just a MAJ!😂😂😂

Never bring a pellet gun to a gunfight?

MarineDad61

Seattle, no. I don’t do west coast.

Annapolis, Maryland, yes.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, yes.
Chadds Ford, New Cumberland, the Poconos,
and greater eastern Pennsylvania, yes.

And now OBX Outer Banks and Dare County, North Carolina, yes.

I only brandish FOIA papers, redacted DD-214, and military records.
Oh… and a cellphone. You know, as needed. 🙂
