My apathy shows itself again.

| February 3, 2010

For anyone that has heard of Darfur and the Sudan region has most likely heard of the many problems going on there. This is not something new and like any other conflict zones there is a almost a repeated monotone message condemning the fighting. But with out any real follow through to be then forgotten by what is the next breaking crisis around the world. In short unless it happens in one’s immediate area, most people could care less. So keep that in mine as we go into the this video.

While there is a real problems in the area and people are suffering this is a area that has been having problems as far back as 2003. I remember that because I have read debates that wanted to send in US troops into that area. I doubt that this video would have been as viewed as it was if the President not replied to it.

But how is that going to happen? We are having a bitch of a time trying to get NATO to commitment additional troops in Afghanistan, what makes the “World Community” believe that they should do anything outside token efforts if that? The African Union is having massive issues dealing with Africa’s conflicts as undermanned/funded as it is.

The person in the video even says as much.

Swift is a relative term and I do not have much faith that this online petition is nothing but a waste of time.

But people keep coming back to this idea of “World Community” and “Citizen of the World”. World united? About as much as the American States under the Confederacy in the 1780s.

I don’t want to be completely apathetic towards people who are facing real pain and strife, but it is becoming harder and harder when videos that make it sound like the “World Community” was a actual governing group to address. It is not going to happen.

ADDED:

Also this is what is happening there now with the area now.

Call me heartless, but we’re busy enough with what we have going on that the world is taking a backseat to “helping us” with.

I say let this be the conflict where we finally do what lib’s have been calling for. We are not the world police on this one, lets leave this to the EU who is enjoying the ability to watch us in Haiti saving our neighbors. Leave that side of the pond for them to manage.

Clearly what they need in Darfur is a stimulus package…

Yeah. Let someone else step in. Or better yet, let these people learn to save themselves. That is how we came to be, isn’t it?

World class welfare. Do we really want to support all nations that can’t or don’t want to support themselves? Just slap another star on the flag and incorporate each one. Should of done it with Germany, Japan, Italy and every one since. Things would be so much better now. Need help? Fine, we’ll help you but in turn you become us. We’ll aid you but tax you too.
