All due respect to this Lars fellow, you couldn’t pay me to live in California. My quality of life would go into a steep decline immediately and the misery index would double.
My dad was statione at March AFB in the 60’s. He retired in 1969. We stayed just long enough for my sister to graduate HS and then we hauled ass out. I don’t even lioke visiting the place.
Unfortunately, major training for my MOS took place in CA. I intentionally re-upped using the advanced course as my school of choice, knowing once I completed it DA would not station me anywhere in the state ever again.
Well, if you’re going to set an arbitrary amount that is divorced from market conditions, why not make everyone rich?

And while we’re at it, let’s fix the housing affordability problem: Maximum rent $100 per month. Maximum price for a new home $50,000.

There was just a TV story on one of the local TV stations, touting the idea that a developer is going to build 63 or 64 “affordable” houses, for the “common folk”. Beginning prices discussed today would be in the low to high $300,000 range. Unfortunately for those looking at those houses in a distant suburb of Grand Rapids, Mi, none will be finished until at least mid-2027, likely early 2028. By the time they go on the market, the cost will go up to the mid $400,000 to $500,000.
Tucson also removed their Cesar Chavez statue. After it was vandalized. Mayor Rejyna Romero wept. I’m loving this.

Pancho was just a misunderstood man, he only sought betterment for his fellow citizens. Okay, his tactics and techniques may have been a little questionable… I think Columbus NM is still a little pissed about that.
They do still have an annual recognition of the event. It was a blow out loss for Villa though. Not only did he lose 1/6 of his men to casualties he angered the US and within a few months there were 100,000 troops on the border.
It was also the last time a DSC was awarded for action on US soil to Colonel (then Major) Frank Tompkins who rallied the troops and chased Villa back into Mexico.
I saw this on TV in the late 80’s, thought it was awesome. Assumed it was fiction. In ’92, I was reading a biography of Pershing that was written in the ’40’s. This incident is mentioned. My reaction was “Holy shit, he really did it!”

Well, if Gravel NewScum had ever pulled is head out of his fourth point of contact, he MIGHT have learned a lesson from Seattle. If I can remember it, then it wasn’t that long ago that the city tried a similar wage hike (against all reasonable advice), with the same results; loss of hours, loss of jobs, loss of businesses, loss of customers, loss of tax revenue. The only increase was joblessness. Wow!
This fits the definition of insanity; doing the same thing and expecting different results.
