The coroner would agree the burglar no longer poses a threat. Or anything else, either.

The second thug gets the warning shot. Even if he isn’t actually there.

Take me into custody for an interview? “I was in fear for my life. I fired to defend myself and others. I will make a complete statement with legal counsel present.”
Thanks again for the links, Gun Bunny. Feast or famine again.

Oops! Wrong house.
The homeowner should have fired that warning shot in front of the perp’s feet. And if the perp just happened to get a few pellets in his feet, that’s not the homeowner’s fault, is it?
Mr Homeless is now a pain in everyone else’s neck.
Indiana didn’t want him…and now he can’t leave there. Perp did find him a new home, six (6) feet below ground level so there is that.
The only warning a perp is gonna get from my shotty is the soft click of the safety from Ol’ Mossy or the double click of hammers from Mr. Rossi. The Devil would be in the details and the perp would make a discovery.
Dumbass stuck his neck out in the wrong house.
Tie a knotted rope around the necks of politicians, throw them over the side of a riverboat and check for the mark twain.
“…because of political wrangling…” “…sold for .27 cents each…” Some things never change, do they? Y’all do know that our Beloved AW1Ed has ulterior motives for posting these Classic Firearms don’t you? It is not only to educate us on the types, he knows that the linkys will send The Gun Bunny down multiple rabbit holes, thus keeping The Gun Bunny out of his hair. It is also because he loves us and wants us to be happy.
Speaking of “The War”…it was on this date in history, 160 years ago, that Marse Robert, tho preferring to die 1000 deaths, met with “The Butcher”, Sam Grant and surrendered The Army of Northern Virginia. Bobby Lee later stated that “If I would have known how it would be, I would have died with my sword in my hand…” “…adventurous abroad and despotic at home…” And here we are.
IMHO a “Warning shot” is a waste of ammo.
Don’t threaten, promise. I point my gun at a perp, I’m making him a promise to shoot him if he doesn’t cooperate fully.
Warning shots are always fired center mass. It warns his friends.
Or a warning shot to the crotch.

One of the few times I don’t agree with Eric Cartman…
“The coroner would agree the burglar no longer poses a threat. Or anything else, either.”
Not even his soul.
