Subject in Fort Lauderdale home invasion shot by homeowner, police say

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) – A Fort Lauderdale homeowner turned the tables on a crook during an overnight break-in, sending the perpetrator to the hospital, police said.Fort Lauderdale Police units responded to the scene of the shooting along the 2300 block of Northwest 13th Court, at around 3 a.m. on Saturday.
Investigators said the homeowner caught the burglar who had broken into their house. When the intruder refused to leave, the homeowner opened fire.
Paramedics transported the subject to Broward Health Medical Center with an injury that is not life-threatening.

Birthday celebration turns deadly with shooting following altercation, threats

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A deadly shooting took place near Antioch following a birthday celebration.The 3 a.m. Sunday shooting on Denise Drive left 39-year-old Maurice Blackmun dead, said Metro Nashville Police. They are investigating the incident as a self-defense claim.
Blackmun physically assaulted a family member after a group of friends returned home from celebrating a birthday, said police. He then confronted 19-year-old Adrian Harvell, who attempted to intervene, by placing him in a chokehold and repeatedly threatening violence against him, as well as other guests.
Harvell pulled out a gun and told Blackmun to get away from him before he fired a shot, police said. Blackmun died at the scene.
Police said there are no charges filed against Harvell at this time.
