A number of decades (at least 4) ago I had to work New Years Eve for a private security job in Houston and shift end was 0200 New Years Day. (Mandatory bar-closing time in Texas at the time.)
Dad taught us to be defensive drivers, but I’d have taken a M1 Abrams if I had access to it. I was more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs and oh so thankful to make it home to Mrs. GB alive.
To date, I have never been out on the road late on NYE/NYD again.
Similar experiences here GB, though I was tending bar.. these days, if me and the missus go out for NYE, we make sure we’ve got a hotel within walking distance (or preferably adjacent to) whatever venue we’re going to.

We don’t even need to do a freedom of information act request on this guy. His claims are enough for our own experience to raise the BS flag on his claims. There are so many discrepancies between what he claims and how things are actually done.
He doesn’t even list any professional experience for after he “retired” in 2012.
Let’s say that we give him the benefit of the doubt and say he did serve. There’s a good chance that he stomped on his own eggplant while in. Then he carried his attitude into the commercial world and met a similar ending to his employment attempts.
There is a lot of narcissism running in his write up. It also shows that he did not even think through how he was going to run this claim. He acted quickly without thinking about what he was doing, something that may have bitten him in the rear end both in the military and after.
Having nothing from 2012 to 2024, and going extensively on his military experience, raises a lot of red flags. There’s a possibility that he may not have served that long.
This man needs medical help. He’s got a short in his headset somewhere.

Yea, in fact, for the first few years some people were getting PERSTEMPO pay bonuses until Rumsfeld stopped it. Hazardous Duty Pay and Combat Zone Tax Exclusion, plus SF guys weren’t paying taxes on their $100k re-up bonuses if they signed in a combat zone.
The tax thing alone is a lot of incentive to stay in theater.
Yea, and now there’s a new operational deployment pay of $240/mo. effective 1 Oct 24.
I think my hfp was $69 per month but it may have been taxable.
Old soldiers never forget?
HFP-$65.00 per month, plus $13.50 a month in Foreign Duty Pay.
And our entire paycheck in the RVN was non-taxable. I rarely spent more than ten to twenty bucks per month during my fifteen months there, except when I was on R&R and seven day leave.
Nobody was paying taxes on reenlistment bonuses in a combat zone.

And SF bonuses were as high as $100,000 at the time. They literally were calling it the; “Blackwater Bonus,” because so many were leaving for those juicy private contractor salaries.
My offer while in Viet of the Nam was $10K, E6 and Hauchuka for at least a year.

Guy joined in Jan 1991 (meaning he was still IET for months afterward), Desert Storm ended in Feb 1991, yet he still wears Kuwait Liberation Medal on his uniform.
….and I was actually deployed (7th SOS, 39th SOW) in support of Desert Shield/Storm. All we (Support troops) got was the SWASM with 2 campaign stars and neither of the LOK medals. Why because we were in Turkey (Incirlik and Batman).
And this ass hat just awards himself the LOKs.

Yea, the SWASM was still awarded for all sorts of operations in Kuwait well after Desert Storm ended, but the Liberation of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait medals meant you served before Feb 1991, because both those countries were no longer in danger after that.

The KLM issued by Kuwait was only issued beginning in 1994.
As you can see here, eligibility includes service in certain areas and regions up through August 31, 1993.
Even worse, only requires 1 DAY of eligible service to qualify.

My National Guard unit received ours at the December 1994 Company Christmas Party drill.
By that time, over 75% who were overseas with the unit in 1991 were no longer in the unit, most no longer in the National Guard, long gone, and obviously weren’t there to receive their KLM/Kuwait medal and ribbon boxes.
Not a good look for the Battalion Commander COL who showed up for the food, and got the duty of reading off the names.
NOTE – We received our KLM/Saudi Arabia medal and ribbon boxes by early Fall 1991.
These were only issued for that short period
of “Desert Storm” in January / February 1991.
And yes, 5 x Purple Heart 5 x Bronze Star guy is wearing and displaying this, too.

True story: Iraq wanted to give American Soldiers the same type of award after 2003 (Liberation of Iraq), but U.S. Code states that the U.S. couldn’t pay for them and Iraq refused to do so, so it was never made. General Patraeus wore the ribbon on his uniform, though. What a fuckhead.

I know I’ve been out of the Army loop for a while now (I retired 33 years ago today), but I don’t think it was ever authorized to stack Oak Leaf Clusters on an award. The way I always knew it the reg called for four in a row, not three across and then another one on top of those three.

I am sure it was just a coincidence that our hero received the same number of meritorious service BSM’s as the number of Purple Hearts–four each. I mean, what are the odds?
Also, too few knots on his bronze Good Conduct Medal device for his claimed 20 years of service, no OLCs on his two Achievement Award medals (implying he has more than ten, but then they are just the medals, so he forgot something).
He doesn’t have the “more than ten” Army Achievement Medals. That medal hiding behind the Purple Heart and looks like the AAM) is the Joint Service Achievement Medal.
You’re right, good catch. Another tell-tale sign of phonies is having a joint award for every service-specific award, cause it makes the rack look more intimidating. Few people in active service that aren’t officers accrue that many individual joint awards.

My first experience drinking (some) Guinness, but wearing most of it was from a glass called an English yard (?). Way younger me didn’t keep an eye on the level of beer in the glass, and when the level reached the little bulb on the bottom, air gladly took its place. I wasn’t prepared to chug beer that quickly.

You mean like posting a Stolen Valor case more often than once every three months? We had like three a day back when Jonn was still alive. Guess we know who did all the work back then.
I think a lot of the research is done behind the scenes and reported elsewhere, and some of the sockpuppets got burned so bad here I ‘spect they spread the word – go up against TAH and you’ll get your adz handed to you on a paper plate.
With the slow-down in FOI responses it makes it harder to keep the daily flow going, as well.
One thing I’ve always admired about TAH, during and after Jonn’s reign, is that any phoney ousted was fully vetted, all the t’s crossed, all the i’s dotted, and a chance to come clean given.
Then, and only then, did the phoney get outted and mocked.

We started to enter a “famine” period when Jonn was still around. He was keeping in touch with other stolen valor folks with the view of getting their “go ahead” to post their results to this blog. Things started slowing down before Jonn passed away, and started to slow down further even before the pandemic.
I remember, shortly after Jonn passed away, Dave Hardin’s reaching out to those of us who contributed blog articles here. He talked about this slow down, addressed the trend of further slowdown, and talked about reaching out to you guys and talking about “where we want this site to go”. Dave acknowledged in the private emails, back then, that folks were going to need to get used to prolonged periods of not having a stolen valor article post.
I’ve noticed that the stolen valor cases would break on this website then get picked up by others, and now it’s the complete opposite. Guys like you who were on 4chan twelve hours a day before The_Donald came around on reddit, turned this website from a wonderful, useful, stolen valor database into hyperpartisan political circle jerking.
Well, this site also doubles as a news site for stories that effects the military, veterans, and the nation at large. During my lurking days, I often used this site as such (I’d also get a kick out of the comment section). As for stolen valor, I don’t know how or where to look for those scum posers. The other side of it is that I and probably many others here lead busy lives. In saying that do I suggest it’s not worth going after and busting posers? Of course not! But finding time and balance in life to devote to that is key. As for me, well if everyone else wants me to try to help find and bust the posers, who are always worth less than leeches, I’ll figure it out.

Reading comprehension isn’t one of your strong points, isn’t it? I wasn’t the only one that explained to you what happened regarding the decrease of stolen valor articles. Jonn wasn’t the only one working these cases. David and others were as well, there was a team gathering information and putting articles together. Jonn’s passing didn’t affect this site’s ability to post stolen valor articles. The problem is when there is a decrease in cases that could be proven via documentation, and then posted. That’s not what happened. Dave Hardin decided to move the website from its initial domain, the one that Jonn had it on, to one that was under Dave’s control. He did not want any future ramifications, from future phonies, to come back against Jonn’s family. This also had something to do with financing and what the original domain wanted. There were other reasons as well, but we didn’t lose any passwords.
So you guys decided not to pay what Jonn was paying for it? I remember Jonn constantly bitching about the high cost of running the old site.
The terms that the old domain was looking at were not acceptable to Dave, given what was being paid and what Dave was comfortable with doing.
There were other factors involved with the decision, like removing the chances that a future phony would try to go after Jonn’s family based on what was posted on the site.
Honestly, I appreciate the info. No one ever mentioned any of this during the turnover. I, along with a lot of other people, assumed a bunch of people hijacked this website when Jonn passed.

From watching the video of the “Las Vegas Cybertruck BBQ” it seems underwhelming of what a U.S. Army Special Forces soldier would be capable of.
