OAKLAND, Calif. – A robbery was thwarted after a store employee at a local store fired a gun at suspects Saturday morning, Oakland police said.

The robbery occurred in the 9700 block of Edes Avenue just before 7 a.m., police said. Many individuals tried to use their cars to break into a business.

An employee fired a weapon, which caused the suspects to run and leave empty-handed.

Police did not specify how many suspects attempted to break into the store.

Officers recovered a gun at the scene.

The employee was detained, police told KTVU. It’s unclear if he faces any charges.

Akron police investigating self-defense claim after 24-year-old shot dead
Police believe the 24-year-old and another man had knocked on the door of the residence and “rushed in” and assaulted another man inside the home before being shot.

A 24-year-old man was shot dead after being involved in an “altercation” inside an Akron home early Sunday morning, with the alleged shooter claiming it was in self-defense, police said.

The incident took place at a residence in the 1900 block of South Garden Court just before 4 a.m., according to an Akron Police Department press release.

Witnesses told police the 24-year-old and another man had knocked on the door of the residence and “rushed in when the door was opened.” The 24-year-old shooting victim then allegedly assaulted a 23-year-old man inside the home.

It was during this fight that a 19-year-old man allegedly grabbed his gun and fired one shot at the 24-year-old.

The 24-year-old left the apartment and later collapsed outside, police said. He was taken to Akron City Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified by the Summit County Medical Examiner as Shilo Valentino Smith of Green.

Officers detained “multiple people” at the residence, including the suspected shooter.

“The shooter and other subjects were interviewed and later released by detectives while they continued to probe the circumstances, including the self-defense claim surrounding the fatal shooting,” the police department said.

Mr. Smith’s companion seems to have suddenly recalled pressing business elsewhere. Thanks, Gun Bunny.

I saw that grip safety on the M&P and immediately thought of “lemon squeezer”.
So I had to research to make sure this ancient collection of mis-firing neurons wasn’t having a mis-fire.
And there it was, the S&W Safety Hammerless (1887-1940).
I also thought I remembered a semi auto with a grip safety at the front of the grip. More searching. Paydirt! The H&K P7 9mm.

I learned real quick to avoid disengaging the grip safety when disassembling amd assembling my Shield EZ .30 Super. Doing so locks up the slide, requiring a gentle but forceful tap to get it back off. It takes some getting used to, as I’m used to using the grip when I field strip my pistols.

Took a “vehicle” to a gunfight? Tox…check the T2NB2AGF Binder!

Haven’t pulled the trigger on something smaller with a different caliber. No .380 or 9mm in the inventory…yet.

When .45ACP got to consuming too much of my budget I invested in a basic P320 full-size in 9mm.
Haven’t experienced any F2Fs or NDs yet. Robust enough for +P if one desires.
My only change to it would to be to put tritium 3-dots on it. Shooting at twilight is more a by-guess and by-golly proposition. If I can see the target familiarity lets me get rounds on paper. But tritium is so much nicer for that.

It’s unclear if the employee faces charges. Since it is Oakland California, he probably will be charged with Interference of The Redistribution of Wealth, a Class A felony in Gavin Newsom’s California.
