Delta deplanes Marine for anti-suicide shirt
Marine Catherine Banks was flying out of San Francisco International last week when the flight attendant (allegedly male) asked her to deplane.
After getting off the plane, Banks said that the flight attendant told her that her shirt — which read “Do not give in to the war within. End veteran suicide” — was “threatening.”
“I said, ‘Are you kidding me?’ ” she recalled to the outlet. “I’m a Marine Corps vet. I’m going to see my Marine sister. I’ve been in the Marine Corps for 22 years and worked for the Air Force for 15 years. I’m going to visit her.’ He said, ‘I don’t care about your service, and I don’t care about her service. The only way you’re going to get back on the plane is if you take it off right now.’ “
Banks told NBC Bay Area that she had to face away from the flight attendant as she changed into another sweatshirt because she wasn’t wearing a bra.
Flight attendants, Banks claimed, also told her to sit in the back of the plane, even though she said she paid for an extra legroom seat. The flight was delayed, and she missed a connecting flight later in the day, she added.
Delta’s terms of service allow them to kick off anyone disruptive, smelly (been on a few flights when THAT was ignored), abusive…the usual sort of things that would sound reasonable to a reasonable person.
But a non-abusive, non-obscene T-shirt supporting what the government has described as a health crisis cause – the high rate of veterans’ suicides? Threatening?
A Delta spokesperson told PEOPLE in a statement: “The matter with the customer has been resolved. We appreciate her patience as we continue to work to understand what occurred during this event. Most importantly, we are thankful for her service to our country.”People.com
Yep, sure sounds it. Hopefully the Marine concerned and a decent Lawer can get Delta’s attention, too – breach of contract and public humiliation maybe?
Quick hint for ya, Delta – you fly NOWHERE I want to go that other airlines don’t also go.

I hope Delta gets their collective ass handed to them in court, I’m sure this isn’t the first time they’ve done something this degree of asinine.
That wasn’t a Delta policy. That was the FA’s policy. I’m sure that fancy boy had NO IDEA what that shirt’s message represents, or who its trying to help. “He” just just thought it must be some cryptic right wing message. She should taken the shirt and sat there topless and said “Shirts off. Happy now, sissy boy?” Also, the policy is too ambiguous and left entirely to a person’s personal preferences to enforce.
What a dim wit! Bet ‘he’ never served his country. Repeat: What a dim wit!
Haven’t flown them since the 90s, no reason to change that now.
Wanna bet the flight attendant was some little fruit-loop with a free palestine / burn-loot-murder pin?
Yeah, she needs to get a lawyer that can get her enough to make them hurt.
I’ve already got a good idea what kind of flight attendant HE is… 🌈
“I don’t care about your service” what a cocksucker… literally.
Never going to take that bet. I got no issues with gays but I’ve never seen a straight airline steward, flown hundreds of times too.
Sounds like Delta needs to do more than just “say” they support veterans. A very large donation to support the very foundation they just disparaged, would go a long way to do that!!!
As I was taught about Art 15s, “hit ’em in the two places that hurt the most, time and money”.
“A Delta spokesperson told PEOPLE in a statement: ”
“We have investigated ourselves and found that we did nothing wrong”.
While de-planing and changing clothes, I would have taken the opportunity to take cell phone pics of the twinkie, and especially “his” name tag. Then social media far & wide the whole incident. Including pics, name, et al. Embarrass? Maybe not the twink, but it would have definitely gotten the attention of Higher Ups, and hopefully cost the twink “his” cushy job.
Reminds me of the toddler with freshly baked brownie all over his face: “What brownie? I don’t see any brownie.” We’ve been there, done that.
To throw a little (very little) humor into the situation;
“….take it off right now”
“Ok. But I don’t have anything on underneath, and I don’t have a spare shirt. Naked be ok with you?”
Now THAT would have been a scene to record and remember.
But I just had a mastectomy! You sure?
.
Maybe we should write or call to see the results of the investigation, or ask that it be made public.
Perhaps remind them of what happens to their customer base, I.E., budwieser, tractor supply, Harley, John Deere etc.

SanFranSoiBoi shoulda been tossed off the flight him(?)self. Given a HANO by The Marine. Maybe he (?) wanted to see some real titties? I’ve flown Delta quite a number of times over the years and have never had any problems with the flight crews, the aircraft falling apart, or the flight itself. However, most of those flights originated in the South East and a good portion of the flight crews had proper home training.
“Bring up a child in the way it should go”. Home schooling makes a difference, doesn’t it! God rest the souls of our beloved departed.❤️
If she had another shirt, why, knowing she had nothing on underneath didn’t she just put on the other shirt over her t-shirt? Why not change in a restroom?
Questions, questions…
Why? You’re asking the wrong “why”. Why was this little pussyboy FA allowed to harass and demean a paying customer like that? Why was this customer forced to give up a seat she had paid for and made to sit elsewhere? Why did the captain of senior FA fail to rein in the wayward flight attendant? That pansy has no clue how lucky he is. Another veteran might not have have handled this as nicely as she did.
My why’s only indicate that there is more to the story than what is being told. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, she was mistreated, absolutely. No argument there.
However, maybe what we don’t know might reveal that this is a person looking for a lawsuit. Maybe she’s not even a veteran. Maybe she’s not even a she.
We know one person’s story and it has too many holes.
No other passengers witnessed this scene? They must have been sensory deprived.
You can either believe the Village Cowboy wannabe or the accused. Now if I wanted to cause a scene I doubt a shirt like that would cause it. If she is not a vet it will come out in court. But somehow I’ve noticed people who ask questions like you have don’t know what the golden foot prints are and would never have volunteered to have discovered what they are. As far as she not being a she, I think you have all ready given away the game.
I’m in total agreement!
Maybe the pilot and FA are splitting the sheets during layovers, and he gets tired of the constant whining.
Cause the attendant issued a command! Do I make myself clear? Humiliation was the game, she /he was in charge by golly. Got cha!
Could be because her “other shirt(s)” were in her checked luggage. Perhaps also, by the time TSA got her through the check in line, she could have been running late. You don’t know, I don’t know, nobody here does either. It’s all speculation and WAG’s on our part.
Why did she need to change sir? Because a soy boy was somehow offended? I wonder how long he/it/herbil keeps its job after the court date.
Their IG page and that of the CEO are both getting blown up by angry peeps.
Pretty great.
Same proggie sh*t, different day– those evil fascist “ticking timebomb” veterans, eww!
I have – and wear – that t-shirt from Til Valhalla Project. They have some very cool, very on-point messages on shirts, sweats, hats, etc., which are a little more expensive than others. They use part of those profits to honor those who don’t win the war within by giving plaques honoring the service of that person to their families.
On the one hand, I hope this story is made up, that it is some sort of exaggeration because it sickens me to think someone who thinks like that flight attendant is allowed to continue to work in a public-facing job. Or, any job. Anyone who would say things like that – allegedly – does not deserve the freedoms, rights and protections all those who have served afford all of us.
On the other hand, I hope it is not made up because the stories about the CEO of TVP are not good. If this turns out to be an orchestrated publicity stunt to “bring awareness” to the plight of veterans, I would suggest whoever came up with it suffer the same imagined plight I outlined for the flight attendant.
I’m very curious here – how does the roll call go here at TAH on the issue of veterans publicly declaring their PTSD for corporate, even nonprofit corporate gain? Is it a sign of attention-prostituting, or a sign of bravery? To be clear, I’m not accusing TVP or any one of anything, just curious about TAH opinions.
Not big on sharing when not behind the keyboard so whatever’s. I keep a small memory garden with a fallen soldier cross off on a side yard so that when I feel like chatting with old friends seen nevermore I might grab a lawn chair and a bottle of scotch to share and we sit and have a talk in the peace and quiet. They tell me it isn’t my fault and I nod my head and smile and sip and play along. But that is between me and them. Nobody else needs to get involved in that process. I’m in no hurry to join them, but I don’t want to forget about what they did and who they were either.
Far be it for me to judge others on how they chose to deal. However; my sympathy really only extends to the extent of what I know about the person and what they went through. If Matt Best wants to monetize his war trauma and then kick in for the cause I ain’t going to hate.
Took me a minute…well…actually seven (7) hours to chime in on this, OAM. In my defense, I was on escort duty to the little big town that had a positive result of a bodacious luncheon with a Bevy of Belles and some real good eating. I then had to do a quick Foo of The Giggle to research the “Til Valhalla Project” and semi educate myself on them. Was not familiar with the organization/business and what they do. I know a tad bit more now…I think. From what I gather, they are NOT a charity and do NOT solicit donations, but contribute a portion of their profits(?)/proceeds (?) toward helping Vets. For that, from me, they get an attaboy. Other businesses do the same, ie Nine Line among others. Are they doing this as a “Look at me”, for adding to their bottom line, or because they feel they can help in some small way? Not knowing more about them Imma gonna give them the benefit of a doubt that it for the latter. We have all seen/heard horror stories of folks “claiming” to “help Vets” or “to raise awareness” (chili feed anyone?) even “for only $.63 a day and we’ll send you this blanket…”. I am leery of any organization that is out “beating the drum” or peddling whatever to get $. I have helped, financially and otherwise, Vets that I knew personally that were having problems, not to make myself feel warm and fuzzy, but to help in any small way I could. Sometimes it helped, sometimes it didn’t. Everyone deals with their demons in the best way they think they know how. For some it does take a professional, for others just having a listening ear can do the job. I personally think that someone coming out publicly that they have problems can be either a cry for help or a scream for attention. I’ve seen both, but have gotten way yonder more better on telling the two apart. Too bad there’s no video of the Delta case. Maybe the flight attendant is the one needing help… Read more »
Thank you for your insightful comments, OAM.
I hope she sues the hell out of both Delta and this (hopefully now-fired) male stewardess.
Nah, you can bet he/she/it checks enough boxes it’ll never be fired…
But I agree, I hope she sues the hell outa them
Fruit pop should be air dropped into Saudi Arabia
HANO..
Hostess/Cheerleader/Cabin staff may not be much higher on the evolutionary scale than Carter’s government owned public indoctrinators masquerading as school teachers. Unionized government dreg.
No one stepped up to say “c’mon man”, or “here, wear my spare”?
