Jerry Escamilla, 43, thought he was going to carry out his plans involving someone’s home. He’s seen on video walking through a family’s yard, holding a machete and accompanied by a dog. The homeowners saw him out their window. Escamilla collapses to the ground, giving the homeowner enough time to close his doors and to grab his firearm. Escamilla climbed onto the porch and felt that he was close to his target. However, Darryl Stevens and his gun greeted Escamilla before the latter could move further.

From Fox News:

Darryl Stevens’ home surveillance camera captured the moment a machete-wielding intruder approached the family’s Liberty Hill home just north of Austin.

“At that moment, I obviously freaked out. I have two young children here in the house and just went into complete fight or flight mode,” Stevens told FOX 7.

Stevens’ gut reaction was to lock up his home and grab his 9mm handgun.

“I started running through the house. I locked every door as fast as possible, ran upstairs. Luckily, I had a firearm here, so I grabbed my 9mm, unlocked it, ran down as fast as possible,” Stevens said.

The suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Jerry Escamilla, managed to climb a fence and get to the upper deck of the family’s home.

He was greeted by Stevens’ handgun when he arrived.

“Told him he’s got to leave, or he’s going to lose his life, you know?” he said. “Luckily, after I did that, he dropped the machete.”

Not the FIRST time we’ve seen a dumbass take a machete to a gunfight. Remember, Girls and Boys….a machete is just a big knife. And the FIRST rule of gunfights is? Have a gun! Too bad the homeowner didn’t go ahead and deliver a TPS and give the wanna be intruder a dirt nap. Kinda understandable tho…it is Austin after all and we have seen what the local DA does to citizens that defend themselves from a clear and present danger.

I think the homeowner did well. He tried to deny entry by locking doors, and when that failed confronted the intruder with minimal force necessary. As the movie line goes, “Its a hell of a think to kill a man.”

“Luckily, after I did that, he dropped the machete.”

So, Jerry Escamilla isn’t completely insane after all.

Good point. No insanity in the family either…

Good thing the machete guy wasn’t in a hurry. That was a lot of things to accomplish to just get the gun out.
