Nebraska Army veteran pulls gun to stop jewelry heist, suspect flees with hands up
Army veteran Gary Peddicord sends burglar scrambling from Nebraska jewelry store, confronting him with weapon drawn

Christina Coulter By Christina Coulter Fox News
A level-headed Army veteran thwarted a would-be thief’s attempt to rob his Omaha jewelry store by brandishing his handgun and sending the suspect running.

Surveillance footage captured inside Sidrony Jewelers last Saturday shows a black-clad robber smashing one of the store’s glass windows to let himself inside.

The criminal didn’t anticipate that anyone would be inside – let alone that they would be military-trained.

Another camera captures the store’s owner, Garrett Peddicord, entering from a back room, leveling a pistol at the other person.

“I typically carry a firearm on my waist, even after hours,” Peddicord told KETV. “It’s just one of those things: keys, wallet, firearm.”

Peddicord, who spent three years deployed in Afghanistan, said he “thank[ed his] lucky stars that [he] put so much thought and time and repetitive training and practice into how to responsibly carry a firearm.”

Store owner shoots suspect during Montgomery County jewelry store heist
The heist at Jems Jewels & Gold at The Shoppes at English Village was interrupted on May 8, 2024, Horsham Township Police said.

By Deanna Durante and Dan Stamm
A store owner shot a would-be jewelry store thief during an early morning heist in Montgomery County.

The incident played out just after 5 a.m. at Jems Jewels & Gold at The Shoppes at English Village shopping center just off Bethlehem Pike (Route 309) in North Wales, Pennsylvania, Horsham Township police said.

A group of people broke into several shops starting around 4 a.m. and cut through a of a wall of a nearby store to get into the jewelry store, sources close to the investigation said. A broken lock could be seen at a neighboring Massage Envy location. A hole was cut from that store into the waxing store next door.

“Surprising, shocked, yeah disappointed to say the least,” Waxing in the City owner Liz Martin said.

The jewelry store owner interrupted the heist as the suspects were already in the store, police said.

The thieves, smashed through several walls and a bathroom on their way to the jewelry store.

Power was cut to at least one business and that may have triggered a response from the store owner, sources said. The jewelry store owner found the suspects at work and struggle ensued during which the shooting took place.

The injured suspect was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries that required surgery, police said.

The suspect — identified as Timothy Overman of Poland, Ohio — was arraigned from his hospital bed early Thursday and held on $1 million bail.

“Ironclad”. I don’t think that word means what Brandon thinks it means.

Does this one qualify as a Feel Good Story? The environmentalists should be happy that one less gas guzzling car is on the road.

I bought the .9MM Beretta when the Mil. got rid of the 1911’s and went to the .9MM. Mine was made in Italy with all metric parts and what a job to install a comp barrel for competition at the range. Guy on the phone says both barrels are easy to install and all you do is slap them in, but it took a pint of red dyckem dye to get it working. All the work was on the barrels and I didn’t touch the slide/frame.

I picked up a .9 mm Beretta a few years ago when mil. changed. Good shooting and accurate, changed springs out and spring guide (came with a plastic guide rod). But I’m use to my Springfield 1911 .45 acp. that just feels better in the hand. Gave the Beretta to my son. He loves it. I find the 1911 conceals better and points better in the dark. I’ve not had any stovepipes since polishing my ramp to eliminate a factory burr. Hard to part with a good shooting firearm.

The M17 Sig 320 is plastic, melts in a fire and has a discharge problem.

SFC D

Maybe your Sig needs a good urologist.

Certainly doesn’t need to molded in a desert tan when there’re other theaters we might go. (Thought we learned that making web gear in ACU pattern when it should’ve been a generic drab color, but no… )

As a civvy, my concerns about subjecting my P320 to a fire rank a little lower than being struck by lightening.
And mine has always gone bang when I wanted to, and not gone bang when I didn’t want it to.
And it, like the P220, shoots better than I do. But 9mm is cheaper than .45ACP, so I took the plunge.

YMMV

Ive got 2 springfields, XD in .40 and the XDe in .9MM. I carry the .9MM now but I used to carry the .40 but it felt uncomfortable on my hip so I switched to the .9MM. was on a cruise ship a number of years ago and became friendly with the bar tender where I got my bottled water. He said that he was from Croatia and I told him about the 2 Springfields I own and he told me that he has one or 2 Springfields.

Bought the Colt 70 series gold cup in 1974 and it was only $274.00. Guns are like hangers, you put 2 in the closet and a month or 2 later they multiply. I had a CH progressive press for re loading target loads and I had to change the re coil spring every time I went from full factory loads to my re loaded target loads. their must have been a design flaw in the rear target sight where the pin holding the rear sight used to snap off every once in awhile so the Brownells set of roll pins were great to use to replace the snapped off pins after sessions at the range. Original pins were solid and not roll pins that I used to replace the factory pin. Maybe if they were heat treated pins, there could have been a problem with that but I have no idea. Maybe I should go online and ask that question about defective pins on a thread site. Never thought about it untill now.

Two (2) very good examples of why one should carry every.where.one.goes. The life and/or property you save may be one’s own. BZ, Armed Citizens.

FJB is an ironclad idiot…bought and paid for by the highest bidder.

If one must have a foreign built 9mm, it may as well be a Bay-Rhetta. At least it’s not a plasticized abomination. YMMV

I bought my Beretta 92F from a friend back around ’97. He paged me one night when I was at Friendly’s, offering me the gun for $200. I raced over to the job site he was working security at and forked over the cash. My friend is gone now, by his own hand like so many, but the gun remains. Years later, I bought a 96G conversion kit with night sights from CDNNsports.com for something along the lines of $150.

I know I’m a bit of a whippersnapper compared to some regulars, and my desire for the M92 came from the first Resident Evil game, much like I’d love to get a SPAS-12 and AR-18 thanks to The Terminator.

The Beretta served well, though its reputation was tarnished by poorly manufactured contract magazines and wear and tear after nearly 40 years of service. Besides the US military, it was also an iconic pistol used in many movies throughout the years. I used to walk through Blockbuster Video and count how many DVD covers had the Beretta on the cover.

Smash the window to rob the store?
Why do you think all the older movies show the heavy duty locking iron gates in front of the store after hours? There was a reason.
