‘It’s very shocking:’ Police investigating after homeowner shoots carjacking suspect in Herlong area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are investigating a homeowner who shot a man accused of trying to carjack him in the Herlong area of Jacksonville.Neighbors say it’s usually a quiet area, but for about five hours police were there investigating after they say a guy ditched a stolen car and then tried to steal another one from a man who later shot him.
“It’s very shocking,” neighbor K.P. Lancaster said.
“It’s been a day and I’m sorry that it happened, and I’m sorry it happened it here,” neighbor Sheryl Anglin said.
JSO said around noon, A K9 officer tried conducting a traffic stop of a stolen car out of Suwanee County, on Spring Lake Drive.
Police said the suspect then took off after kicking a woman out of the car.
That’s when JSO said the suspect held the homeowner at gunpoint while trying to carjack his car from inside his garage.
Anglin described what had happened to her neighbor saying, “The guy told him he had guns on him and he told him, ‘Give me your keys or I’ll kill you.’ And he said, ‘Oh sure, but I have to step in the house to get it.’ So when he did that, he grabbed his gun instead.
Police say the suspect – a 30-year-old man – then ran across a pasture in that area where neighbors chased him down.
“I just heard gunshots and people going every which way, pretty much searching him out trying to keep this neighborhood safe.” Lancaster said.

Police: Nashville homeowner shoots burglar in self-defense
The burglar was shot after he allegedly broke the kitchen window and was trying to enter the home.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Police said a burglary suspect was shot in self-defense by the homeowner in the Trinity Hills area on Saturday morning.Anton Cosby, 32, is accused of breaking into the home on Shreeve Lane just before 6 a.m. Saturday. The victim and his family woke up to the sound of banging on the front door and windows.
The homeowner retrieved his firearm and gave Cosby repeated commands to leave. He told Cosby he would fire his weapon, according to police. Cosby then allegedly broke the kitchen window and began to climb through when the homeowner shot him once in the arm.
Police said Cosby dropped his revolver near the kitchen sink and ran away.

Not reading a lot about bullpup rifles recently, makes one ask, “where are they now?”
A few new ones have come out since then. Ed tends to run strings lately by type of gun, so I expect to see more this week. Expensive, tend to have lousy trigger pulls, and lots of people don’t like that blast so near their face… all reasons why not.. But efficient, compact for the barrel length, are all good things.

Plenty of warnings from the homeowner, yet Mr Cosby insisted, persisted, and continued to try to break into the home.
Personally, my only regret on this story is that Mr Homeowner didn’t use a large enough caliber to make Mr Cosby a DRT, instead of just a WRT. Ahhh, well, can’t have everything you want in life.
