OMFG, find me this video

| November 5, 2009

CNN, Larry King (barely a)live. Shoshanna Johnson (former POW), Dr Phil, and some JAG officer that I would pronounce my gayness for if I knew who he was.

Paraphrasing here, but the JAG said: As I sit here listening to all this psycho-babble crap, with you guys talking about PTSD nonstop, how come not once have you guys hit on this guys last name being “Hasan” and discuss Islamofacism.

Phil and Shoshanna lose their minds, accuse him of racism, general mayhem, etc.

Best TV moment I ever witnessed.

I have it on DVR, but not sure how to actually save it.

A white dude with ties to the white power movement did go on a shooting rampage a few months ago. I seem to recall a lot of people on this site rushing to dismiss the analysis that concluded he went on that rampage because he was a racist, right wing redneck. The facts of that situation were that a senile old man with a death wish, who happened to be a white supremacist, decided to try and go down guns blazing. A lot of people here resented the fact that people in the media were trying to push ownership of that attack onto the right wing broadly.

The same thing is happening here, but with a few modifications.

Athena, if only ethnicity were the only consideration, I would agree with you. What is going on here is different. Rather than stating, “Hasan is a name of Middle Eastern descent,” people said, “Hasan is a name of Middle Eastern descent, so we need to consider that he’s a terrorist.” You cannot pretend that those two exercises in reason are identical. One is a statement of fact, talking about family background. The other one inserts a tenuous presumption based off the name alone.

BTW, That POW was a COOK with the U.S. Army 507th Maintenance Company, 5/52 ADA BN, 11th ADA Brigade.
I thank her for her service, and would never trade places with her in a million years. She got shot in both ankles and was a POW for 22 days. Along with Jessica Lynch.
That she could speak to an officer of the US Military in such a fashion is horrible.
Her book comes out in February, so expect to hear more from her.

here the link, that JAG officer is a poor excuse for a Soldier and his beliefs do not reflect the thoughts or ideas of every Soldier just the racist one….

CRaissi,

Take the arguement you just made;

“Hasan is a name of Middle Eastern descent,” people said, “Hasan is a name of Middle Eastern descent, so we need to consider that he’s a terrorist.”

Replace “Middle eastern descent” with “in the military”, and “he’s a terrorist” with “he’s got PTSD”.

I’ll even let you use your conclusion.

You cannot pretend that those two exercises in reason are identical. One is a statement of fact, talking about “family background”–“organizational member ship”. The other one inserts a tenuous presumption based off the “name” xx “membership” alone.

One is a PC approved the other isn’t

Johan

I agree, they are both wrong, the last part was my cynical side showing.

Athena

CRaissi,
I think that after 40+ years of hijackings, suicide bombs, car bombs and run-of-the-mill murders perpetrated by muslims (albeit a minority of their numbers worldwide) the JAG guy can be forgiven for his assumption, whicg, after all, has turned out to be true.

WOTN Editor

The FBI was ruling out terrorism within 2 hours. That is complete idiocy. Dr. Phil and Shoshanna were calling it PTSD 5 hrs after the fact, and 2 hrs after the world had learned MAJ Hasan had never been stationed anywhere else but Walter Reed, that is complete absurdity. Again, this case looks much more like terrorism based on islamist ideology than it does other things. There is NO case for PTSD. And there is certainly a connection to the Anti-War crowd, by ideology, even if not an organization. Will the IVAW now take credit for an anti-war idiot committing mass murder? OR, do we look at the fact that he DOES claim to be Muslim and potentially an Islamist? BTW, his imam could not find him a wife because he wanted her to be hot behind the hibab, praying 5x a day. (And no hibab’s aren’t common in the Nation of his parent’s origin: Jordan. And oh, btw, al-Zarqawi was Jordanian. And oh, btw, a Palestinian-Jordanian killed a bunch of Americans in the peace-keeping mission in the former Yugoslavia. And oh, btw, Jordan was very embarrassed by both.) FACT: Hasan was a Muslim, Jordanian, anti-war in Iraq, anti-war in Afghanistan. Possible: Hasan is an Islamist. FACT: Hasan never deployed anywhere. He did NOT have PTSD due to military service. Possible: He had PTSD from childhood sexual abuse. FACT: If Hasan committed those acts due to islamist/political ideology, then he IS a terrorist. What does that say about Jordanians? nothing. Overall the Jordanians are a modern society without great islamist/terrorist tendencies. What does that say about Hasan? He likely fell under the influence of islamists, which portend to be “fundamentalists” but subvert their proclaimed religion. What does it say about the anti-war movement? It ain’t so non-violent afterall. What does it say about the Napolitano memo? It’s stupid. Islamists receive left wing coddling, not right wing support. Hassan did not shout “Long Live the Constitution” So, choose your association: he was anti-war and Muslim. He did NOT have PTSD from multiple overseas deployments, not even from Japan and Germany. He… Read more »

Sorry, but I’ll take the point of that JAG officer, with a year in Iraq (at a FOB), over the word of a cook with two months in-country (half of it as a POW) any day.

Shoshanna needs to STFU.

Matt

Hey, Shoshanna, sorry that you hate officers so much, but education, training, maturity, and experience do give you skillsets that can give somebody an advantage in dealing with stressors and the ability to develop better coping mechanisms.

As somebody who deals with my own PTSD and has worked closely with CW3 Dave Williams (POW SRO for the 1-227 AV/507 MT), your experiences do not give you a lock on either franchise.

“a tenuous presumption based off the name alone.”

LOGIC FAIL

Why were these people on Larry King Live talking about this guy again? Oh yeah he committed a terrorist act. That’s two things the presumption was being based on (at least). And if I remember correctly his religion and what he shouted were out there already so maybe four. I know of a couple of racist rednecks who’ve gone on a rampage lately and both were lefties like most white supremacists, so who are you talking about?

Jon DeWald

I found this blog today. WTF, over? I think this is from that jag-off above. You guys should look into this.

Jonn Lilyea

Yeah, it looks like the handiwork of Jon DeWald who threatened TSO, Michelle Malkin, Chickenhawk Express and me nearly two years ago. He’s a little bit obsessed and probably upset that we haven’t written about him for nearly six months. Last I heard, he was trying to get a job at Fort Bragg, now his IP address originates in Savannah, GA. I stalk back.

Now he’ll probably show up here, deny that’s him and would we please not mention his name again.

A Heros Friend

Well Jonn…we have someone so desparate to belong that they have to hijack my screen name…kindly fix that for me…thanks…the correct screen name should be ThisIsDefinitelyHell

Jonn Lilyea

Yeah, I just noticed;

Thanks Jonn

TSO…DeWald sounds like a low class drag queen…it is so sad what some folks will do for attention, weather it is positive or negative…this is what happens when the gene pool gets to shallow…

God, it’s like that guy is the fucking horror movie villain that keeps coming back for annoying sequel after annoying sequel.

Thanks, AS. I was racking my brain for the similarity, it’s Michael Meyers, the hockey mask wearing killer. And, you’re right, annoying sequel after annoying sequel.
