Democrats voted unanimously in favor of including illegal aliens in census

Census data impacts the number of a state’s number of representatives in the House, as well as the number of electors it has for the Electoral College. Senator Bill Hagerty, Republican from Tennessee, introduced a proposal that would bar illegal aliens from this count. However, Senate Democrats unanimously voted to defeat this proposal. Hagerty argued that illegal aliens can be leveraged to shift federal power in favor of the Democrats.

From NTD News:

“Democrats’ unanimous opposition to this commonsense measure confirms that they’re using illegal aliens and sanctuary cities to increase their political power,” he said.

“With this vote, Senate Democrats chose to trample on the rights of each American’s voice. I will continue to fight and press this issue in the Senate,” Sen. Hagerty added.

Sen. Hagerty has made this accusation in the past, arguing that Democrats in sanctuary cities are allowing illegal immigrants into their regions in the hopes of gaining more votes and greater representation in the House of Representatives and Electoral College.

A sanctuary city is an area where the authorities may limit cooperation with the federal government’s efforts to enforce immigration law, deportation, or prosecution. At the moment, roughly 200 cities, counties, and states are considered sanctuary cities in the United States, with New Orleans, New York City, and Washington, D.C., among them.

The measure was shot down 45-51 after failing to get even a single Democratic vote. Sen. Hagerty released a statement on March 8 accusing Democrats of holding back the amendment for political reasons, while also promising to keep pressing this issue.

Actually, they probably don’t actually want them to vote, just to be counted in the census to inflate their numbers in congress.

The problem is that the left supports many things that hispanics in general don’t support…special treatment of gay and trans people, abortion, undermining the family, etc. Hispanic culture really doesn’t have much in common with the current “progressive” democrat party so my feeling is that Democrat support for “a path to citizenship” will only be there if that path is long and arduous. The historical support for quick and easy citizenship is going to become a thing of the past very soon.

Of course, making predictions is hard, especially about the future, so they may surprise me and continue supporting “legalization” but my thought is that as they realize many of these newly legalized hispanics are not going to support their agenda, they’ll back away from that agenda item.

Illegal Aliens have always been counted in the US Census.

Somebody needs to do a recount. About 15% of the population of Alabama is Hispanic and illegal. The population has exploded in the last 5 years.

I would say by the end of this year it’s probably closer to 20%. It seems possible that they will exceed the black population in the near future. This is good because most of the immigrants are actually looking for work. They work their asses off too. It’s mostly construction, agriculture, restaurant and hospitality industry. Many have opened their own contracting firms, restaurants, shops and grocery stores. Immigrants that were living five to a room 5 years ago, now have their own house (maybe a small rancher) and a big pickup truck. They don’t have gang tattoos and they don’t like big government.

The census is literally in the constitution and the notion of “illegal” or “undocumented” alien wasn’t even a concept.

But we already know that the MAGA movement wants to throw out the constitution. Trump explicitly says it and it has zero impact on his support. So I shouldn’t be surprised you oppose following the constitution when it comes to the census.
