Democrats propose a bill to outlaw militias
Senator Ed Markey and Representative Jamie Raskin, both Democrats, proposed a bill that would outlaw militias. If passed into law, this bill would prevent three or more people under a command structure from patrolling, drilling, or engaging in dangerous paramilitary techniques. Commentaries made related to this bill zeroed in on conservative groups and referenced the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Under the guise of preventing another event like the Capitol Hill protest on Jan. 6, the proposed legislation introduced by Democrat lawmakers would prevent private militias and paramilitary groups from “publicly patrolling, drilling, or engaging in harmful or deadly paramilitary techniques,” “interfering with the exercise of someone else’s constitutional rights,” “interfering with or interrupting government proceedings,” “falsely assuming the functions of law enforcement and asserting authority over others,” and “training to engage in such behavior.”
The bill proposed by Markey and Raskin defines a paramilitary group as “any group of 3 or more persons associating under a command structure for the purpose of functioning in public or training to function in public as a combat, combat support, law enforcement, or security services unit.”
While Raskin told The Washington Times that the legislation aimed at preventing private militia and paramilitary groups from operating in the United States was not written with a political bias toward certain groups, NTD.com reported that the Democrat lawmakers did not mention any of the left-wing organizations that engaged in violence during the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests. Instead, the lawmakers repeatedly directed their comments toward conservative groups or organizations that are typically linked with conservative individuals.

I was wondering the same thing. We met in the basement of the local Mormon church. The Mormons have divorced themselves from the BSA now. The scout camp I went to has closed and has reverted to USFS control, the church didn’t renew the 100 yr lease.

As with the case with Venezuela, they want to go after armed groups that disagree with the narrative. In this case, groups that disagree with the leftist/progressive narrative.
In Venezuela, government agents were able to weaponize Venezuela’s version of ANTIFA/BLM, “The Collective”, against people who protested what the government wanted to pass for laws. This was in conjunction with their program of removing guns from the hands of law-abiding citizens.
With selective application of the courts, a corrupt government can leverage criminal elements to keep the population in line… One does not need the use of the military.

The bill is intended for private militias. Each state is allowed to have a state guard/state defense force.

Many states already have anti-militia laws, including my own. The resultant reaction was the establishment and expansion of the KKK. So I guess they are trying to trigger the rise of secret militias.

I’m of the opinion (from studying much history) that the US Constitution does not allow government entities to restrict certain weapons for itself. And in fact, the 2nd Amendment prohibits it.
From the earliest day of the Republic private citizens bought arms for themselves, some surperior to the bought for military armed forces and the civilian police forces.
Ther are many examples from ship owners, pioneers, and just plain citizens.
Of particular note was the German militia the kept the Confederate sympathizers from seizing the Missouri state armory just at the beginning of the Civil War. Seems like a couple hundred or so years ago a bunch of dead white males (not dead at the time of the writing) sat down and came up with a list of grievances against their political rulers. Said rulers didn’t listen and after a few years were no longer the political rulers of certain North America regions.
A lot of those grievances are being repeated. I guess it’s different and acceptable this time since we “elected” this particular group of asshats who are doing it.

I understand the trepidation but last time I checked the country was based on the government worked for the people and answered to the people. I don’t advocate violence against the government , I may be naive but I still hope that the people of this country are not complete idiots and that hopefully they can remember more than a few months ago. Please get out and vote, please vote pragmatically and not emotionally, please don’t sit it out because Trump may be a dick , does it matter? Vote for the policies that reflect your vision for the future not personality or emotion. Vote for the guy that represents what you want for the future. Jimmy Carter was probably the best person ever to be president but he was a horrible president. Sometimes the best person for the job may be a self absorbed dick that will fight tooth and nail for the country and its interests. I want to be proud of our nation, I want to be proud of our values and traditions again. Please get out and vote for president Trump even if you don’t like him, the alternative is awful and hates you.
