Obama, guns and beer

| April 19, 2008

Suddenly, Barak Obama is a good old country boy. The Washington Post reports that after touring a steel mill in Pennsylvania he headed across the street to soak up cheap suds with the guys;

 Obama and Casey emerged from the factory to find a crowd of about 30 people had gathered across the street at the Erie Beer Co., a local wholesaler. Apparently they had been waiting all morning.

“The steel was interesting, but beer!” Obama exclaimed. The senators crossed the street. “What’s selling best right now?” Obama asked the group. “Bud Light!” most people responded. “We like beer,” Obama declared, gathering everyone around him for a photo with his buddy “Casey,” who as usual appeared to be having the time of his life.

Yeah, I’m sure him and Michele sit around the house and drink Bud Light from cans while they watch reruns of “The World According to Jim”. Jeez, they’re just exactly like us, aren’t they? Naw, it’s an attempt to beat back the effect of his “Bitter speech”.

This week, to prove that Obama’s bitter just like the rest of us, his campaign even announced that Obama belongs to a pro-gun group (The Washington Times link);

The Obama campaign the next day touted an endorsement by the American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA), a national group that promotes some new gun control measures and describes itself as an alternative to the NRA’s “radical” gun rights views.

Critics say the group is a front for the gun control lobby because it promotes outlawing some caliber of guns and certain types of ammunition and the abolition of firearm sales at gun shows.

Actually, American Pundit says it’s much worse than that;

Bob Owens [The Confederate Yankee] notes that the “American Hunters an Shooters Association” is actually run by a Daily Kos diarist. The diarist, Ray Schoenke, doesn’t exactly have a history of pro-gun rights:

Schoenke, a failed Democratic candidate for governor of Maryland, has donated thousands to Handgun Control, Inc, a virulent anti-gun organization that was the forerunner of Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence. He has donated thens of thousands more to anti-gun Democratic politicians including Ted Kennedy.

AHSA executive director Robert Ricker has testified as a paid witness against the gun industry and consults for several anti-gun groups, and John Rosenthal, President of the AHSA Foundation, is a former member of Sarah Brady’s Handgun Control, Inc, and is leader of Stop Handgun Violence, a Massachusetts anti-gun group that has contributed to that state’s intolerant anti-gun guns.

Say Uncle has more on their background;

 When you follow the money, they read like a who’s who of gun grabbers. They are a front for the anti-gun Democratic Leadership Council so that anti-gun politicos can say they belong to a group that sounds pro-gun.

Members (five of them that they disclose) of the AHSA are anti-gun lobbyists.

They’re basically a shill group set up so that anti-gun candidates can try to woo the hunting crowd.

So, try as he might to convince Americans that he’s just like the rest of us, Obama just can’t help but be what he is – just another elitist, gun grabbing Leftist.
