Assault suspect shot by good samaritan

by: Matt McGovern
CENTERVILLE, Texas (FOX 44) – A man suspected of assaulting an elderly man in a restaurant bathroom was shot by a good samaritan before fleeing the scene.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call at approximately 12:04 p.m. Monday from Woody’s Smokehouse #2, located at 947 W Saint Mary’s Street in Centerville. The call was in reference to shots being fired inside of the business.

Deputies and investigators, along with Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers, responded to the restaurant. A surveillance video showed the suspect entering the business in a harassing manner.

According to Sheriff Kevin Ellis, the suspect aggressively approached several customers inside the store and proceeded to walk into the bathroom. A subsequent investigation revealed that once inside of the bathroom, the suspect started assaulting an elderly man and knocked him unconscious onto the tile floor and continued assaulting him.

Sheriff Ellis says a Licensed to Carry Holder attempted to intervene the assault on the unconscious victim. The Licensed to Carry Holder was then assaulted by the suspect, knocking him to the floor and continuing to assault him.

Double homicide began as vape shop robbery that ended in deadly shootout, police say
Authorities share surveillance camera images, ask for help identifying 2 customers, third robbery suspect

By Curtis Heyen and Tamer Knight
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — A double homicide at a Shreveport vape shop began as a robbery that ended in a shootout between at least one customer and the robbery suspects, police say.

Two of the robbery suspects — 19-year-old Anthony Lee and 18-year-old Martavious Henderson — were struck by gunfire and ultimately succumbed to their injuries.

Now detectives are sharing surveillance camera videos and photographs in hopes someone can help them identify the third robbery suspect as well as the two customers who were in the store at the time of the robbery.

Lee, Henderson and another male were armed when they entered the business in the 1900 block of Centenary Boulevard about 4:55 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 12). At one point during the holdup, two of the three robbers jumped the counter and took a handgun and other items from the store clerk.

While this was going on, the two customers escaped the business and went to their vehicle, described as a blue Chevrolet 1500 extended cab pickup. There, they armed themselves then engaged the robbery suspects as the three left the business.

The third robbery suspect escaped on foot and has not been identified. He is described as a Black male who stands about 5?6? to 5?8? tall and who has a slender build. He was wearing gray shorts and a black hoodie.

“I’m going to tell you, it was scary. It was very scary,” one resident said.

I’ll bet that the “two customers” that had to back to their truck to arm up, never do that again.
I’ll bet they constant carry from now on.
(why were their guns in the truck, and not on them, to begin with?)

I’d need to check Louisiana carry laws, but it may be that for some reason they were not allowed to carry in the vape shop (e.g. if it is one of the protected places or the shop owner has a ‘no guns’ policy).
Whenever possible, if an establishment has a ‘no guns’ policy, I take my money elsewhere. Those are victim-rich zones, as we all know.

If they just weren’t carrying for whatever reason, I do agree that they probably won’t do that again.

Centerville is a small town in Texas. I’m thinking you shouldn’t try to beat up old people in the bathroom in a small town.

Woody’s is a highwayside stop by I45 well out of Centerville proper. Actually, there are two – Woody’s #1 is on the east side of 45, #2 is on the west side. Nice folks, good jerky, much less crowded than Buccee’ s 20 miles south of there. Haven’t stopped there more than 40-50 times…

My Homey wrote and sung a Ballard, giving warnings on doing nefarious activities in small towns. Yute did the FA&FO thing.

And THAT, Girls and Boys, is why The Gun Bunny carries, concealed, every.where.he.goes! BZ to the Armed Citizens in both of these examples.

Keep it up activists and We, The People will pass judgement on your opinions.

“The reason for the success of the .45 ACP cartridge is simple. It works. People shot with it “stay shot,”…” ’nuff said! Kid Squid (ht2 Ol’ Poe) showing his Gun Bunny some love today with the smoke and mirrors gun pr0n pic. Clicking on the linky goes from a plain brown wrapper to showing nekkid freedom seeds surrounding a most beautimous rendering of HMS JMB’s (HBHN) works. I need a cigarette.

Back in the 1950’s, My friends Dad who also saw action in Europe during WW2, worked for the US Postal Service and he used to pick up the mail in the mailboxes and was armed with the .45 revolver which when he worked in the area where he lived, he used to stop at home to pick up his lunch and one day, he showed us the revolver and the half moon .45 “clip” that was used in the gun.

Old tanker

I have owned several examples of JMB (howitzer be his name) and competed with them. For a while I carried a variation as an off-duty piece. While appreciating his work I also understand that others, following in his footsteps have provided better options, particularly when the choice of ammo is something other than ball. Ball being a carryover from the BP days of yore. Even with HP slugs in the 45, its velocity is such that it often lacks the ability to open up.

Higher velocities, larger ammo count within the piece also help to put the Ol’ Slab Sides in a poorer light.

Now let the pitchforks and torches be raised for I have sinned in casting aspersions upon Mr. Brownings gifts.

When bullseye shooting with my 70 series match Colt, I used semi wadcutters or wadcutters, I forgot which are the ones that feed the best and when I went to ball, I had to change to a longer recoil spring. Been years since I shot the gun so my memory is a little vague. Only problem with the 70 series Colts is that the roll pin holding the rear sights used to break off after X amount of rounds going through so every once in awhile, I punched out the old roll bar and put in a new one.

Graybeard

I’d like a pallet of that .45 ball if anyone has some they’re giving away.
As is, I’m seriously considering moving to a 9mm for cost considerations. At a 26¢/round to 50¢/round cost difference my range time is severely curtailed.

That place in Centerville is a very popular stop on the trip from Houston to Dallas. Some great smoked meats and other goodies there. If you go by there, be sure and stop in. For my money it beats Buckees hands down.

The news said that none of the three folks involved were from the area – which is not surprising to me. The teen probably has a rap sheet from either the DFW or Harris County area, and thought he could do that in a small town. FAFO, punk. Too bad Good Samaritan only got him in the arm. At least a gut shot would have been better.

“Dead” center would have been best.
TSS would have saved everyone a boatload of $$$ on hospitalization, incarceration, courtroom time, etc, etc..

Something wrong….every time I try to “edit” and then post, I get a red error message, “Yer going too fast!”

So, here is my amended, saved and re-posted as “new”:

I’d like to know what that boy was on, and where he got it…..so I can avoid it.

Pretty much almost anywhere in the US is within easy driving range of somewhere shitty.
Ball dates from early days when bullets were mandated to be nonexpanding and feed issues were common. A proper ramp and throat job on a 1911 will let it feed an empty case from the magazine. Remember, JMB had a major hand in the HiPower . 9mm was not anathema. Hell, he INVENTED .380, a short 9mm cartridge.

If one wants a hollowpoint in .45ACP, the 200g or lighter ones are generally moving fast enough. The Winchester Silvertip works.

For heavy bullet loads, I do like the Federal Hydrashock. They work. If they don’t open, it’s still 230g .45.

Special mention to the Cor-Bon 160gr +P load.
