Waltz: Bowe Bergdahl Should Face Charges
Rep. Waltz on FoxNews is suggesting that Bowe Bergdahl should face charges for the men that were killed and wounded as a direct result of them looking for him.
‘Traitor’ Bowe Bergdahl must face justice for his crimes
8 Americans were killed and dozens wounded trying to find ‘traitor’ Bowe Bergdahl
By Rep. Michael Waltz | Fox NewsIn July, many veterans who served in Afghanistan and took part in the search for U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl were stunned by the news that the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia had vacated the 2017 court-martial convictions against Bergdahl.
For those of us who were deployed at the time, the vacated case not only reopened old wounds from a forgotten war but highlighted the grave injustices surrounding Bergdahl’s grossly lenient sentencing.
In 2009, Bergdahl deserted his firebase in eastern Afghanistan at the height of the war against the Taliban and other terrorist groups. As then-President Obama ordered a surge of troops into Afghanistan in an attempt to break the downward slide in the war, our operations at the time came to an immediate halt as Bergdahl went missing.
Instead, an estimated eight Americans were killed and dozens seriously wounded in militant-occupied areas attempting to locate the deserter.
U.S. forces in the region were ordered to shift away from their objectives to defeat the Taliban in order to search for Bergdahl. I led a task force of Green Berets, who along with every unit in the eastern half of the country, searched for Bergdahl to no avail.
I can still picture that event in the Rose Garden at the White House when Bergdahl’s parents spoke in the language of Bowe’s captors. That was special.
There weren’t many yellow ribbons tied around the ol’ oak tree once the truth bubbled to the top.

Good, let him be tried, convicted, and given whatever punishment deemed suitable. I’d prefer the Eddie Slovik treatment, or at least a life sentence, but even if a judge gives him time served, Bergdahl needs to be officially recognized as a deserter, coward, and someone who cost the lives of eight American Soldiers. Not to mention adversely affecting many more lives.
One thing, he needs “Sergeant” removed from anything written about him. He never earned the rank, despite being effectively “promoted ahead of peers” to both SPC and SGT while missing.
Too bad he wasn’t dressed down like Dreyfus then drummed out to Rogue’s March with a group of base brats kicking him in the ass the whole way
The rock more than he deserved.
From what I have read Eddie Slovak was a more sympathetic character than Bergdahl. Seems like “The Greatest Generation” had a bit of a desertion problem (“How ya gonna keep em up on the lines, after they’ve seen Paree?”)and someone decided an example needed to be made to motivate the troops. Slovik was evidently one of the decent but hapless folks who just can’t function in stressful situations like combat and he happened to choose the wrong time to desert. As I recall, they gave him multiple chances to return to his unit but he chose to die by firing squad rather than return to combat. An unpleasant situation for all concerned.
“War is cruelty. There’s no use trying to reform it, the crueler it is the sooner it will be over.”
– William Tecumseh Sherman
I recall learning the same. Slovik could be considered a tragic character, one who chose to be slain on his feet by “friends” than continue to face the uncertainty of combat. I guess it’s unfair to even mention that man’s name in the same company as Bergdahl, who willingly walked into the enemy’s hands and who cost the lives of other Americans.
But it was such a good deal. We got a lower enlisted traitor and they got lets see…..
Norullah Noori – governor of Balkh and Laghman provinces. Noori is “wanted by the United Nations for possible war crimes including the murder of thousands of Shiite Muslims”…”responsible for ethno-sectarian massacres in northern Afghanistan”
Mohammad Fazi – Chief of Staff of the Taliban Army “wanted by the UN for possible War crimes including the murder of thousands of Shiites”
Khairullah Khairkhwa was the interior minister “a narcotics trafficker and probably used his position and influences to become one of the major opium drug lords in Western Afghanistan” He was directly associated with Osama bin Laden and Taliban Supreme Commander Mullah Muhammad Omar.
Mohammad Nabi Omari was the Taliban’s chief of communications.
Abdul Haq Wasiq was deputy chief of the Taliban regime’s intelligence service.
How many died to capture these pieces of shit? Who then picked up exactly where they left off.
“Was it worth it? Absolutely,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki,
Antony Blinken, now secretary of state, backed the decision to release known Taliban members from Guantanamo Bay and said they would be “very carefully monitored.” I’d say they are pretty easy to monitor since they are all running the country now. Good work blinky.
But later they were upset…. you know why…
The greatest clown show on Earth.
Hang.the.bastard!
I agree that Bergdahl should hang, slowly, painfully, and then be left up until he disconnects from the rope as a warning to others.
But the FN article is just an opinion piece. I’ll raise a toast when I hear word of an Article 32 hearing.
The lenient sentence was a slap in the face to those killed or wounded searching for that POS Deserter, I hope they bury him under Fort Leavenworth this time around, he dies lonely and forgotten while the day he was born gets erased from the calendar.
I’m smiling. See? This is my smiling face. 🙂
If you look closely at all of the circumstances, Bergdahl should never have been in the Army in the first place.
His heart wasn’t in it as evidenced by his behavior before enlisting. The Army lowered the enlistment standards and shuttled him in despite his record.
He was a disaster waiting to happen. I dunno, maybe some people can make a turn-around and get with the program. Bergdahl was not one of these people.
There were a lot of people in the Army that shouldn’t have been there at that time. I got a kid with full-blown autism that never should’ve made it past the recruiter, or at least MEPS.
It’s “inclusive” now. /sarc

“Ready!”
“Aim!”
….
Bubba’s prison bitch.
…well, okay, he got too much of that with the Taliban– just hang him.
“Aim for the navel!”
“Fire!”
Maggot.
“The six men reportedly killed while searching for Bergdahl were identified as Staff Sgt. Clayton Bowen and Pfc. Morris Walker on Aug. 18, 2009; Staff Sgt. Kurt Curtiss on Aug. 26; 2nd Lt. Darryn Andrews and Pfc. Matthew Michael Martinek on Sept. 4; and Staff Sgt. Michael Murphrey on Sept. 5.”
“Rest In Peace To Those Six Warriors.”
The fact that this dude is still wasting oxygen has me questioning the lethality and Warrior ethos of my former teammates.
You’d figure someone so aggrieved would go thumb the scale (or safety)… and I wouldn’t blame them whatsoever.
Steve Balm,
Oh oh.
The Fox article is an OPINION piece.
Not news.
And, there is NOTHING stating that
“Bowe Bergdahl is to face charges”,
nor that new charges exist.
Oh, there should be.
But it’s not happening today.
There is this. So it could happen.

“Rep. Waltz on FoxNews is suggesting (italics mine) that Bowe Bergdahl should face charges for the men that were killed and wounded as a direct result of them looking for him.”
It’s right there in the first line of the post.
SFC D,
The headline AND first line of this VG article were EDITED..
by Steve Balm, or someone else at VG….
shortly AFTER I put up this comment.
Here is the screenshot (from a FaceBook PM)
showing the original headline.
And this quote (same as above)
“Bowe Bergdahl is to face charges”
was indeed in the 1st sentence,
before the edit.
Yes, edited based on your post.
sbalm,
Thanks. 🙂
SFC D,
I understand the confusion,
since there is no “(Edited) – …..” line added to this article,
and no one (else) replied to my comment here.
Since BB lives not far from not 1, not 2, but
3 POW*MIA chapters
(Boise Valley, Pocatello, and the Elko POW*MIA Awareness Ass(es))…
Perhaps someone can get a comment on the record,
from any of the 3?
Especially the all but defunct Elko wagon train of circus clowns,
since more than most,
the Elko POW*MIA Awareness Ass cashed in on BB
during Phony “Colonel” Les Brown’s early years in “command.”
Regional chapters listed here….
http://www.bvpowmia.org/
At one point, the Elko POW*MIA Awareness group rode around on their motorcycles to show their support for ONE POW – Bowe Bergdahl.
When Bergdahl was released, they had a difficult time transitioning to another cause, but kept the Annual Chili Feed going. When Les Brown died, they were headless because he was such a charismatic leader. He saw them through hard times – when “people were coming after their vests” as Les would say.
They lied, they faked medals, they said they served in places that others did not, but they survived.
tshe,
Always about “the cause”,
when they put their hands out,
and then used the cash to ride around, oh, and dress up.
Make that not 1, not 2, not 3 chapters, but 4.

.
Since Bergdahl “volunteered” to hang out with the Taliban, was he really a POW?
…especially on Manlove Thursdays:
SFC D,
All signs point to “deserter”.
Not that BB got any desert dessert with his happy meals.
The future may include his just dessert / just desert.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/just-deserts-or-just-desserts
Knowing this Administration they won’t seek charges and do their best to let him completely off the hook.
He should be careful because there are those out there that would like to make Bowe disappear.
With the Rockies and the Tetons next door, easy to do
Nope, keep that fucker out of my old neighborhood, dead or alive. He can stay in Ketchum.
Not a good look today… Gold Star mothers of the 13 folk killed at the airport gate in Kabul not happy about their treatment:

“8 Americans were killed and dozens wounded trying to find ‘traitor’ Bowe Bergdahl”
That number seems to grow every time I read it. Pardon my cynicism, but I call Bullshit—show me.
timactual,
I see the number of red thumbs down adding up…
but I don’t see anyone putting up a list of 8.
I had heard of 7 before, but never 8.
And of the 7, several were controversial.
So, I don’t know the actual number.
More than 1? Likely.
Less than 8? Likely.
I also see the red thumbs. What I don’t see is any actual evidence; plenty of outrage, but no sources, or even a rational explanation. Then again, I didn’t actually expect anything else.
This creep reminds me of Schumer and Smallwell
Well, this did not go well with Ole Les Brown and crew reference the Traitor PVT Bowe Bergdahl…
Check out what they said in 2014…
“The local POW/MIA group handed out fact sheets to the crowd of more than 50 people who attended an information forum Tuesday to counter information that has been presented as fact.”
“Other listed facts disputed more controversial claims, such as the contention that fellow soldiers died in an attempt to locate him.”
“To date we have not seen or heard any evidence that any US personnel died in the search for SGT Bergdahl,” it states.”

ninja,
Was former Elko POW*MIA Awareness Ass
Sgt At Arms Lifer No-Doz James Brian
really an E-9 Sgt Major?
Assuming he’s not, and never was……
I wonder who James Brian was “honoring”
by slapping on a shiny brass E-9,
especially since Les Brown and others complained
(years later in 2019)
“They’re coming after our vests!!!”
James Brian is not the only name in the 2014 story
that was no longer around by 2019,
when “Northern Nevada state coordinator” Les Brown
made his own news… not in a good way.
