Veteran in wheelchair shoots man who tried to rob him at downtown METRO station, HPD says

A man in a wheelchair shot another man who tried to rob him in downtown Houston on Monday, according to investigators.Houston police officials said it happened just before 9 p.m. at the METRO station at Pierce and Main streets.
Authorities said the victim was in a wheelchair when a man approached him and tried to steal a bag. The victim pulled out a gun and fired several shots.
The suspect was hit but managed to run “several hundred yards,” according to police. Then, he collapsed. First responders took the man to an area hospital, where he was treated for the gunshot wounds and was stable, according to police.
Investigators said the man in the wheelchair was a veteran who was waiting to catch a ride to go home.

Gunshots exchanged between men after 1 hit the other with his car, Harris County sheriff says

A retired Baytown police officer and a burglary suspect have been hospital Tuesday after Harris County deputies say the two exchanged gunshots in Highlands.The Harris County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the incident on East Wallisville Road and Thompson, near Highlands Junior High, at about 9:30 a.m.
ABC13 spoke to Maj. Saul Suarez, who was at the scene, and learned that it all stemmed from home burglaries in the Highlands Crossing neighborhood.
One of those victims called the retired police officer, which prompted him to follow the suspect to the 1900 block of East Wallisville Road, where the incidents occurred.
The two got into a physical fight before they each fired off several gunshots, the sheriff’s office said.
Both men were airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. The retired officer is said to be in his 60s.
