On WFTL 850 AM Radio this morning, the hosts mentioned Groundhog day and said that when it was first started, the Groundhog was eaten after the forcast. Any truth in that????
Was doing some looking into that earlier, and yep, sure is. they had a lunch served at the Punxatawny moose Lodge..

It’s a very large, fat squirrel that can’t jump very well although it can climb trees.
There’s one that lives at my folks’ place that happily pretends he’s a squirrel (and the squirrels don’t mind) when they feed ’em.
We’re problem 700 miles apart but our local whistle pig Gen Beauregard Lee did not see his shadow so we get an early spring.
The fact that it is cludy and overcast with forecast of almost an inch of rain before the day is out might have contributed.
The South has a BETTER prediction…😉

Well that’s not that much of a problem here in western Massachusetts where we are experiencing our warmest winter since 1942….if it stays like this I might be getting my sailboat back in the water the first week of April….
This climate change thing works out I might be able to sail10 months out of the year instead of 7….I’d be okay with that….
This is my 7th decade in New England and it is indeed the
warmest winter I have seen.
However, I have seen some of the coldest and this freakout
over tomorrows minus 20 has me laughing at the sheer panic
going on with all the warnings of a frozen death knell unless
you follow the NWS guidlines.
Sheesh…put on a sweater.
It’s because we’ve become a nation of morons, 54% of our fellow Americans ages 18-74 can only understand what they read at the level of the average of 13 year old according to the Literacy Project’s research…
If over half the nation is incapable of understanding basic reading materials the idea that a lot of them might get frostbite when it’s 0 degrees F outside starts to make sense…
But remember Public Education needs more money…because we’re getting such value for all the money we currently piss down that rabbit hole.

I was a summer maintenance man at a local ski area in my youth, and the furry little bastards would eat the cedar siding off the corners of the buildings as high as they could reach. Porcupines are nearly as bad. .22 rounds were cheap, and I dispatched a ton of those critters.
Same here. .22 rounds were cheap 60 years ago and it was great fun to kill off those groundhogs after seeing the damage they could do to a freshly sprouted field of soybeans back in Hoosierland. Then we used the carcasses for catfish bait. / s

Well, my neighbor caught a pic of a baby unicorn. They said it was a coyote, but I say it is a unicorn, and they can’t tell me just because they saw it with their own eyes I’m wrong! I say it is proving this alternate reality where everything means whatever I want is to continue for the foreseeable future! Yes, it is not much of a problem for most of the population.
It is a dead-end virus that mostly has adverse effects on young adults with robust immune systems. Almost all cases are in the desert southwest and mostly in the wet years when there is an overabundance of mice. When it does strike it is a deadly risk for a very small part of the population.
MRS D had a raging case of valley fever in high school, left some permanent lung damage. It’s no joke but not exactly the zombie apocalypse.
