Habemas Papam… well, Speaker

| January 7, 2023

Finaly, after 15 rounds, the election for Speaker of the House is over. Kevin McCarthy,, California’s biggest GOP fundraiser, was elected late Friday night after s slew of previous hold-outs from the rightist Freeedom Caucus decided to vote for him. One of his first acts was to swear in all the Congresscritters Saturday at oh-dark-thirty – I am sure that is analogous to their normal dealings, but why press it.

This bodes poorly for the Republicans in upcoming votes.  A few folks like Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert hold the key votes in their hands to be the gatekeepers on critical legislation. Think of all the fun the Democrats have had with Joe Manchin essentially controlling their agenda in the Senate – yep, probably gonna be similar in the House.

This has implications outside our borders, as well. For openers, Ukraine aid may be squarely in the crosshairs (remember when the Democrats impeached Trump over the famous “quid pro quo” accusations that he leveraged their aid? How many billions has Biden sent them since?) Any action on Social Security, the border, and other hot issues is likely to be more contentious, especially given the seemingly Democrat front. Going to be a very interesting two years.

“Freedom Caucus”… sounds so clunky. Gonna have to give these newly powerful folks a name. “The Squad” is already taken….

The only “winner” in this farce is the Uniparty. The Taxpaying American Citizen loses again. Change my mind.

The ONLY concern of most Kongress Klowne Kritters is re-election and the increase of their wealth.

Why wasn’t Nancy Pelosi the one to turn over the Speaker’s gavel to McCarthy? I realize that she may have been ambivalent to such a photo op, but it would have shown a lot for democracy in action.

That gesture would have required a smidgen of class. Pee-lousy thought someone mentioned glass, so she stepped out for a Manhattan, a Rusty Nail and a White Russian.

Like a true politician, McCarthy broke out the knee pads and did the “Kamala” to get the votes…

Tucker said he’s crawl naked through a sewer to get the seat. Great analogy.

USMC Steve

True enough. All about the power. He is a CA republican which is to say he is not a republican at all.

I’ll get more cheese for the whine fest, mmm-kay? Kev sailed in full of hot air and had it broken off where the sun don’t shine. I’m actually proud of my congress-critter for jabbing him in the eye and for being a one-way little bitch. This is new to me.
Kev had to actually negotiate to gain votes, the democratic process, and of course Dem congress critters and media mocked and laughed. Having been under Nan’s iron fist for so long they had no idea what was happening.
Kev had to bend, and he did.

Here’s a list from an unimpeachable source, Mother Jones.

  • Any member can call for a motion to vacate the speaker’s chair
  • A McCarthy-aligned super-PAC (the Congressional Leadership Fund) agreed to not spend in open Republican primaries in safe seats
  • The House will hold votes on key conservative bills, including a balanced budget amendment, congressional term limits, and border security
  • Efforts to raise the nation’s debt ceiling must be paired with spending cuts

  • Move 12 appropriations bills individually, instead of passing separate bills to fund government operations
  • More Freedom Caucus representation on committees, including the influential House Rules Committee
  • Cap discretionary spending at fiscal year 2022 levels, which would amount to lower levels for defense and domestic programs
  • 72 hours to review bills before they come to floor
  • Give members the ability to offer more amendments on the House floor
  • Create an investigative committee to probe the “weaponization” of the federal government
  • Restore the Holman rule, which can be used to reduce the salary of government officials

Please let it be true, I’m in favor of all those.

Gee, sounds pretty similar to what the the Republican party claims as a “platform”, its guiding policies, which is proclaimed and extolled every Presidential election and ignored as soon as the election is over. My money says this is more of the same, like the “Commitment to America” that the GOP committed itself to in the last election.

To misquote;
It is a manifesto told by idiots, full of sound and fury, and signifying nothing.

USMC Steve

I really hope the republicans fuck with the socialist democrats every chance they get. Those liberal fucktards are all about the party, not the country. Payback be a bitch.

How about docking them 3 or 4 days pay as they weren’t working or sworn in.

Hate_me

I like the idea, but they technically were working (talking ‘bout stuff). The fact that they weren’t yet sworn in – I view that as effective date of rank vice actual date of rank. They were wasting taxpayer money from go (also their job).

IMO he needed to get his pampered ass handed to him like that because he HAS become part of the problem which IMHO is the “Insider Country Club”, the source of the backscratching back and cloakroom deals. He went into this expecting a coronation and …

that A hole demoRat crenshaw called the 20 peeps who didn’t want to see the other A hole as majority leader called them terrorists. As Dan Bongino says,, Most republicans are demoRats but all demorats ARE not republicans.

Democrats still won’t give him the common courtesy of a reach-around for his trouble.

Classic example of someone who served honorably being a complete waste of space outside of the military. Exhibit B of Pappy’s maxim in Republican politics. Exhibit A being John McCain.

And some think that there will be some changes in the way things happen in the sewer swamp. Good Luck with that.

Am I happy about this clown? Nope. I do understand that, thanks to the senate rino and republican party hq reliance on the good old boys system, the last election really gave no other options for speaker. Had there been a red wave for real I think the speaker position would never have gone to him.

Too soon?
