‘Survivor’ Winner’s Class Act

| December 16, 2022

Mike Gabler

The Survivor reality television series has been around on CBS since 2000. The format seems popular enough- a group of up to 20 contestants are sequestered in some remote location and compete for a cash prize. They are divided into “tribes” and are expected to apply survival skills using a minimal number of tools. The tribes compete against each other in “challenges” involving physical endurance, problem-solving, and resourcefulness. The motto of the American version of the show is “Outwit. Outplay. Outlast.”

Not very inclusive. OK too easy and snark aside, a winner is donating his entire prize to Vets. Mr. Gabler is making the incredibly generous gesture in the name of his father Robert, a Green Beret. LC sends.

‘Survivor’ Winner Donates Entire Million Dollar Prize to Veterans: ‘I Am Very Fortunate’

“There are people who need that money more,” Mike Gabler told host and executive producer Jeff Probst during the Survivor after-show on Wednesday

Survivor 43 winner Mike Gabler made history on Wednesday night after he revealed he’d be donating his entire $1 million prize to veterans.

The heart valve specialist, 52, had been telling viewers of the CBS competition series his plan before nabbing the win, but followed through with his promise after being named Sole Survivor.

“There are people who need that money more,” Gabler told host Jeff Probst during the Survivor after show, filmed moments after his win. “And I’m going to donate the entire prize — the entire million dollar prize, in my father’s name, Robert Gabler, who was a Green Beret — to veterans in need who are recovering from psychiatric problems, PTSD, and curb the suicide epidemic.”

An amazing act of compassion from a rather unexpected vector. Thank you Mike. Thanks too LC; I would have missed this one.

Not to tinkle on the gesture, but, I hope he does his homework and ensures it’s the best of legit veteran’s organizations.
Fisher House is my favorite.

Wounded Warriors…well, they have a LOT of nice commercials.

Just FYI, this is considered the top charity review organization out there.
This is what I look at for charities.

I heard the news on news station WFTL 850 AM this morning and I thought that he was the Army Vet which now after reading the story, I got things mixed up. Another BZ for Mike.

Gabler says his motivation to support veterans came from his father’s service as an Army Special Forces soldier.

This makes sorting through the usual depressing/aggravating stories worthwhile.

Old tanker

Wow. Finally something out of that show I can appreciate. I saw a part of it years back and ignored it ever since, especially after seeing clone formats in other shows.

Slow Joe

Well, as other have said, I hope he does his research before donating his money.

USMC Steve

After the IRS steals roughly two thirds of it, there will not be much left to donate.
