Teen boy in stolen car shot by Memphis Police officer, TBI says

A teenager is in the hospital after taking off in a stolen car, being shot by a Memphis Police officer and crashing, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).The TBI said the incident happened early Monday morning, at about 10:40 a.m., on Peres Avenue
Memphis Police officers found a stolen grey Dodge Challenger and saw someone get into the car, the TBI said. The officers then approached that person, who turned out to be a male juvenile, according to the TBI. The TBI did not release an age for that juvenile, but FOX13 has learned that the child is a teenager.
Details on what happened next were still scarce when the TBI gave an update on the case around 4 p.m., but the TBI did say that at some point one of the Memphis Police officers fired a shot at the teen as he sped off in the stolen car.
A second officer then found the teen crashed out in the stolen Challenger near Chelsea and Boxwood.

Police in New York shot and wounded an off-duty Vermont sheriff’s deputy during the early morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 20, according to officials and local media reports. Two other people were injured as well.The incident began around 3 am when the off-duty deputy, identified as Vito E. Caselnova IV, got into a verbal altercation with a group of people in Saratoga Springs, about 35 miles north of Albany, according to WNYT.
The incident became physical when Caselnova was slammed into the hood of a car and thrown to the ground, the outlet reported.
Caselnova then revealed he had a gun, and a member of the group fired at him, according to WRGB. A brief shootout ensued.
Nearby Saratoga Springs police officers heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene, where officers repeatedly told him to drop his weapon, according to the outlet.
“By my count there are at least eight separate, clear, unequivocal commands to put the gun down and get on the ground,” a city official said at a news conference recorded by WNYT. “They are all ignored.”
The Vermont cop was apparently dog piled and shot at. Drop the gun?

Obviously I wasn’t there (duh), but a couple of questions come to mind…….
I’ve heard of “tunnel vision” when you’re in the middle of a dangerous “adrenaline rush” time. Is there also “tunnel hearing”?
The City Offal said there were “eight separate, clear, unequivocal commands”. Were they spoken by one person only? Or were there many people barking commands in a jumbled audio mess? Somehow I’m not totally buying what Mr City Offal is selling.

I’ve experienced similar phenomena when responding to MVAs (in my non-EMT roles) – we have a tendency to hyper-focus on something we see & hear as a threat, and screen out other input that may be vital. One reason EMTs are (or at least were) taught to never run to a scene, but walk deliberately – to keep our adrenaline from impairing our responses.
Similar to Combat Breathing exercises.
I never heard anyone identifying themselves as law enforcement, just screaming “Drop the gun!” I have no idea if this has any bearing on the incident, just what I gathered from the video.
Possibly some hyper-focus going on there as well?

I was under the impression that was a standard option from the factory.
Option only available to a certain demographic.
From where the local police were screaming, I would have assumed they were talking to the other individual up against the car…who also had a gun out. You also have the case of the Police shooting with a female civilian in between them and the Deputy. If he had just fired a shot, he might not have been able to hear too well, add the adrenalin from multiple people pushing you around and shoving you. If he survives the 10 (or eleven) shots he seems to have a good case a lawsuit. Not saying he will win, but a good case.
