Happy Birthday Navy- 247 Years Young

| October 13, 2022

USS Carl Vinson CVN-70

On 13 October 2022, the US Navy will celebrate its 247th birthday. According to records, as of 2019 there were 332,528 serving in the active duty Navy, and 103,678 serving in the Navy Reserve.

On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress voted to create the Continental Navy. At the end of the Revolutionary War, it was disbanded. However, in 1794, the Naval Act was passed and was signed into law by President George Washington. This act authorized the construction of six frigates, which were the first ships of what eventually became the modern US Navy.

Not a hell of a lot to celebrate these days given the current Administration. So happy birthday, Navy. To better times ahead.

Perfect timing!!!!
My son returns from his first deployment to NS Norfolk. His Gator Freighter left in March and returns today. He’s taking second leave period and coming home to Florida. Not a bad first trip overseas…

I’ll celebrate for what the Navy once was. Not for the abomination it has become.

Happy Birthday Navy! Serious Question: Since your names are stitched on your back pocket, do you now also have to put your pronouns under it? I don’t want to make another mistake like I did in Rota….

Happy birthday, Squiddies!

Gee, and we thought it was more like this:

He was a Plank Owner aboard SS Ark. Did a forty day shakedown cruise under Captain Noah. Weather was a little rough and, as in recent times, they ran into a seamount.

Thanks for the pic Ed. The four 3.50 Inch gun tub AA guns had 2 in front of the island structure and 2 aft gun tubs, one on the port and one on the starboard side are missing in the pic and were replaced by 20MM Phalanx AA guns. I think the replacement took place after the USS Stark was hit buy a missile in 1987 but I am not sure. Those aft gun tubs were great for getting some rays while operating down in the Carib waters. Thanks again for the pic Ed.

1962-64. I was in the Sonar gang. Operated with the USS Yorktown (CVS-10) as part of TG 70.4, Seventh Fleet’s ASW hunter-killer group. Others were USS Brinkley Bass (DD-887), USS Henderson (DD-785), and four DEs, the Hooper, Evans, Bauer, and Bridget.

Fun days. Yokosuka, Sasebo, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, and of course Olongapo.

Will mid rats include cake and ice cream? Reservations required for the fan room? Beware of the “Bug Juice”! It may be made from the juice of actual bugs.

Happy Birthday to our Naughtily Inclined Brothers and Sisters.
Nice Aerial Artillery Platform Transporter ya gots there, Mister!

“Homeless ‘Good Samaritan’ Marine Vet Gets Probation In Gas Money Scam”

https://www.marinecorpstimes.com/veterans/2022/10/06/homeless-good-samaritan-marine-vet-gets-probation-in-gas-money-scam/

“A Philadelphia man and Marine veteran who pleaded guilty to conspiring with a New Jersey couple on a bogus feel-good story of helping a motorist in distress that garnered more than $400,000 in online donations has been sentenced to three years’ probation.”

“Johnny Bobbitt Jr., 39, who previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering, was ordered Monday in federal court in New Jersey to pay $25,000 in restitution. He earlier was sentenced to five years’ probation after pleading guilty in 2019 to state charges of conspiracy to commit theft by deception.”

“Bobbitt aided Mark D’Amico and Katelyn McClure in a feel-good story in late 2017 about the homeless veteran giving his last $20 to help McClure when her car ran out of gas.”

I’m wondering if the Navy Birthday has anything to do with me not receiving my online Navy, Army and Marine Corps Times last night and The Early Bird Brief this morning due to maybe earlier celebrations consuming adult beverages.

That is NOT a Navy uniform—Public Health Service or some such bureau. Please, we have enough screw ups without this clown.

USS Belleau Wood

USS Enterprise

And we (Army Troops) have pictures to prove it….😉

That is why the Navy can’t fool us with those seabats stories…

The ninja family is purple. We got to become a member of the “Doofer Book”

Our favorite character was an Air Force CPT, JP4 or JP8 at that time. We called him “JIFFY”…as in “JIFFY-LUBE”.

We think POL fuels were getting to him because alot of us Non-Morman types found about the holy under-garment from him (I don’t think we were supposed to know…Oh. Well…)

😅🤣😂😆😅🤣😂
