Midweek Open Thread
Columbus Day, observed, was this past Monday, October 10. The federal holiday is the second Monday of October. This year, I gunned for the actual day he landed, October 12, 1492. So, Happy Columbus Day… Based on the actual landing date (smile).
There are certain members of our society who have demonized Christopher Columbus. They are not armed with the facts, but with misinformation. There were certain realities that existed around the time that we would disapprove of. However, that does not mean that we should judge them based on our standards. There was a lot of good that occurred as a result of European exploration and conquest. For example, cannibalistic religious and cultural practices were put to an end in areas that the Spaniards controlled. Here is one video that puts the Christopher Columbus exploration story into proper perspective.

On station.
Europeans brought technology such as the wheel to the “New World”.
Surely that was an unforgivably heinous act.
And the wheel + casino’s
I bet they wheely did I bet.
“There were certain realities that existed around the time that we would disapprove of”
Imagine what they would think of some of the shit going on today.
I love how none of these idiots that demonize Columbus want to talk about the many tribes that chose to ally themselves with Hernán Cortés against the Aztecs because those tribes were fed up with their cruelty. And there were many tribes in the US that did not like each other either.
And I hate the argument that Columbus discovered nothing because people were already living there. You can easily turn that around and say the same thing if the tribes were able to travel to Europe. Because to Europe, it was a new discovery. And a very important one.
Would the Native Americans have discovered anything despite Western Europe also being settled and most of the countries there were already technologically ahead of the native tribes in that they had guns since 1411, were able to print books on a large scale by 1436, and build ships that could survive a transoceanic journey?
Happy Columbus Day to all.
The Indians [known to the “woke” as “Native Americans” or some such rot] agree.
Like how the left/libtard proggies lump all the native folk into a “there all the same” indigenous category? Racist much, liberals?
As pointed out Monday, gotta admire a dude that can convince a married woman to give you enough money to take a 3 boat cruise. And if he hadn’t of done it, someone would’ve.
I’m sure that Princess Lieawatha Warren hates Chris most of all. Just imagine, if you will, had Chris not set out on his cruise she would have surely been Queen by now.
The radio (WFTL) mentioned the other day that in one city where they tore down Columbuse’s statue, they had a Columbus day parade.
Mayorkas is a lying little bitch. We already knew this, but nice to see it confirmed.

The guy is just another D-rat cuck incapable of riding a horse. The photo clearly shows to any horseman that the rider is incapable of whipping anything. His left hand I holding the left split rein, and his right is holding the invader’s shirt. So, unless the rider has a third arm….
Or, imagine a society where weak-spirited cowards criticize men, also on occasion women, braver and more accomplished then they.
Christopher Columbus jumped his ass into a Great Unknown, gambling it all, for the betterment of himself and the society he loved.
We would be so blessed to dare the same.
> Christopher Columbus jumped his ass into a Great Unknown, gambling it all, for the betterment of himself and the society he loved.
Like that even matters. The most important fact about Columbus is that he failed to provide Diversity, Equity & Inclusion training to his crews…who cares about anything else…?
That’s “racist” and “privilege” of some kind now, comrade!

Ninja:
I hate to bring doubt into this story, but Calvin Graham is wearing Combat Aircrew Wings in that “findagrave” photo.
Aircrew (Air Crew)/Combat Aircrew Wing Insignia
APPENDIX 20 Evolution of Naval Wings (Breast Insignia) (navy.mil)
“During World War II a new aviation breast insignia was designed in response to numerous recommendations from the Fleet to recognize the job done by enlisted aircrew personnel flying in combat.”
Why is Graham wearing those Combat Aircrew Wings in that photo?
USS SOUTH DAKOTA (BB-57) was a battleship, not an aircraft carrier, and the story linked above states that he served as a gunner aboard that battleship. Nowhere is it stated that he ever served as a Naval Aircrewman.
Does any of your research indicate that Graham ever served as a Naval Aircrewman in combat? If not, then he shouldn’t be wearing those Combat Aircrew Wings.
Sorry, but I’m getting a whiff of potential WW2 POSer bullshit here.

“On September 5, 1942, United States Navy Petty Officer First Class Charles Jackson French, of Omaha Nebraska, swam through the night for 6 – 8 hours pulling a raft of 15 wounded sailors with a rope around his stomach through shark infested waters after the USS Gregory was hit by Japanese naval fire near Guadalcanal. French successfully brought the men to safety on the shores of the Solomon Islands. French was the first black swimmer to earn the Navy Medal for his heroism in 1943.”
Once Charles Jackson French was identified, he became a national hero. A depiction of French’s heroic actions was included in the WWII Commemorative Card Set produced by Gum Inc., based in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. In addition to the War Gum trading card, his story was told in syndicated comic strips, on calendars and he made public appearances across the country to promote the sale of War Bonds”.

These dumb Proggy bastards seem to forget, or never knew, that the human race was a very different kettle of fish in 1492 and for over 200 years thereafter. Columbus did not invent the conquest, mistreatment, and exploitation of indigenous peoples. Nor did he have much of a hand in it. He died a poor and broken man.

I wonder what tribal affiliation The False Commander “Phony” Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) claimed on Indigenous People’s Day? He has claimed a few, that’s for sure.
Not that Phildo et al. took it off, anyway. He views it as another day to get the jump on his competitors through procuring taxpayer-funded goverment, set-aside minority grants based upon his highly questionable and potentially felonious Native American, Navy SEAL and Law Enforcement claims.
We hope oneday Ex-PH2 will return.

I will say it again. Arlington belonged to the Lee family. His Home. Things happen in War. He and others fought against their West Point Classmates. The War Between The States dealt with other issues. My Paternal North Carolina Family were too poor to have slaves, but they defended their land by joining and fighting. One was wounded at Gettysbug on 1 July 1863 and taken POW by the Union Army. I am proud of my Heritage. THE SOUTH. I resent Wokeness destroying History. Next thing you know, Woke will come after our Faiths. Oh, Wait…That is already happening. You don’t like the Confederates? Get buried somewhere else so that Southern Soil does not taint your Soul. Get Over It.The South HAS Already Risen Again.
hbtd/rtr
The reason Arlington is a cemetery is because Congress wanted to make sure that the Lee family could never recover ownership of their ancestral estate after the war. That is the primary reason that Union dead were being interred there during and immediately after the war.
“The government acquired Arlington at a tax sale in 1864 for $26,800, equal to $464,324 today. Mrs. Lee had not appeared in person but rather had sent an agent, attempting to pay the $92.07 in property taxes (equal to $1,595 today) assessed on the estate in a timely manner. The government turned away her agent, refusing to accept the tendered payment. In 1874, Custis Lee, heir under his grandfather’s will passing the estate in trust to his mother, sued the United States, claiming ownership of Arlington. On December 9, 1882, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5–4 in Lee’s favor in United States v. Lee, deciding that Arlington had been confiscated without due process. After that decision, Congress returned the estate to him, and on March 3, 1883, Custis Lee sold it back to the government for $150,000 (equal to $3,701,364 in 2022) at a signing ceremony with Secretary of War Robert Todd Lincoln. The land then became a military reservation.”
This is what we were taught in College and Military History. The Supreme Court had to get involved. Curtis Lee, General Robert E. Lee’s Son, won when he sued the US. We felt he did the right thing by selling it back to the Government with the signing ceremony being conducted with Abraham Lincoln’s Son, Robert Todd, 18 years after the War Between The States were over, during Chester Arthur’s term as President.
Somewhere in boxes, I still have papers I wrote about Arlington’s history. Has always been fasinating subject to me based on “controversies”, land ownership, law decisions, etc etc.

So sad that true history, good and bad, is not taught anymore. My folks were yeoman farmers and mechanics and we, too, have answered the call since F&I War. A Compatriot of mine grew up near the Lab Site. I helped him to get that marker placed. It was put there because it is within a few yards of the site, and in a highly visible, secure location. The City of Macon went thru the site a few years back and tore down the main building one dark rainy night. And, yep, the Historical Preservation Folks, wink, nod, looked the other way. “A danger to the Public.” Solid brick with 4-8 foot walls, it wasn’t going to fall in. Same City Fathers spent $60 M on the Tubman Museum, Tax Payer $. No vote on that either.

My family as well fought for their states with the Confederacy.
They, too, were mostly poor folks before and moreso after the War of Northern Aggression (that ought to tick a seagull off).
When someone calls such folks traitors, I know they are abjectly ignorant and probably intend to stay that way – therefore I can ignore their verbal diarrhea.
In the family treasure chests I have a couple of letters home from the field. If memory serves, my ancestor who wrote those letters died in a battle shortly after.
