Law enforcement officers shoot and kill armed Wasilla man in standoff, troopers say

Anchorage Daily News, Alaska
Law enforcement officers shot and killed a 63-year-old Wasilla man they were trying to arrest Friday afternoon after he refused to go to jail and pointed a gun in their direction, Alaska State Troopers said.

Investigators with the troopers’ Child Abuse Investigation Unit arrived at a Wasilla home around 1:45 p.m. Friday to arrest Jimmie Janeway on suspicion of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and second-degree sexual assault, troopers said in an online report. The residence was a unit in a fourplex located in the vicinity of Wasilla-Fishhook Road and East Snohomish Drive, troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain said.

“When investigators knocked on the door, Janeway answered the door with a gun to his head and stated he would not go to jail.

Police: Armed 16-year-old shot in hand by officer Saturday evening in Akron

Doug Livingston, Akron Beacon Journal
Akron police say a patrol officer shot an armed 16-year-old boy in the hand in the backyard of a residence off Manchester Road, just north of Interstate 76, Saturday evening.

Lt. Michael Miller of the Akron Police Department said the victim had non-fatal injuries.

Miller, the public information officer for the city police force, said two officers patrolling Manchester Road heard multiple gunshots “very nearby” at 6:24 p.m. The officers, who were traveling in the same cruiser, turned onto Longview Avenue and stopped in the 700 block.

They walked along an alley and encountered three males in a backyard. At least one was armed, said Miller, who added that police recovered multiple handguns and other evidence from the scene.

One of the officers, who will have nine years of service with the Akron Police Department next month, fired a single shot, Miller said, striking the armed juvenile in the hand.

I’m thinking the LEO in Akron had a good chance for a precise shot to remove the weapon from the 16-y-o’s hand without having to kill him.
Trouble is, if he ever has to shoot again, and the next time do a quick center-of-mass, some scumbag lawyer (but I repeat myself) will claim he could have just wounded the perp, because he’d done it before.

Still, good shooting, Sir or Ma’am.

It is far more likely that hitting the idiot in the hand was merely a happy coincidence rather than a planned action. There are far more LEO’s who think of weapons skill as a small side line, until they get into a life threatening situation. The ones who like to compete and stay current on their skills are in the minority, sad to say. However, I think given the number and frequency of Police involved shootings, the folks paying attention at the range might just be increasing.

Back in the day, my 3d shift CO on the P.D. opened the pistol range on slow nights(mostly the fall and spring). He insisted that everyone working those nights go to the range over the hours of the shift.
Got so the other shifts wondered why 3d shift shot so well at qualification.

Had a chance to buy a Johnson rifle back in the 70’s from the Garand Man whom I bought several rifles from but never bought it.

A twofer TUESDAY DRT and 3 punks off the streets, albeit temporarily, is a good thing. Two MONDAYS in a week?…not so much. You DO need a raise…AND a day off. Bless your heart.

Cool linky of the Johnson Rifle. Was not as familiar with THAT Johnson as I am with my Johnson.

Where is the mindset of President John Adams when we need?

Oh…BTW…I also have my search engine optimized for motion pictures and danger zones to avoid. Would hate to be bored or caught in a Ladies Room.

OY!!
Again with the answering doors with guns!
If you don’t want to go to jail, you don’t even answer the door; you just tell them; “he’s not here”. If they keep knocking you go hide under the bed (they NEVER look there). If they DO look under the bed, you tell them, “I was looking for him under here, but he’s not here either; you can leave now.”
