This is how we judge their sincerity
The State of California, in its quest to “Do Something” about the rising tide of young cinematographers being shot with 1873 Colt repros on set, has proposed gun safety legislation to regulate and establish safe gun practices on-set. The Directors Guild of America (DGA) and International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) are on board. But…
Senate Bill 831 released in January 2022 aimed to “raise safety standards on sets and regulate ammunition, blanks, and firearms that are capable of firing ammunition,” while a similar Senate Bill 829 was more specifically tailored for weapons to remain “under the supervision of an armorer at all times” and further defined terms of the purpose of an armorer.

Yeah, you guessed it: the STUDIOS opposed the bills.
“The DGA and IATSE are disappointed and disheartened that this critical legislation, which would have required important safety protections for our members and all workers in our industry, was not passed into law during this legislative session,” the unions said, according to Deadline.
“Unfortunately, we were unable to get the studios to support significant, meaningful and practical safety reforms that they currently implement in other parts of the world. We remain committed to reforms that protect our members through negotiations with the studios or legislation in California and other states. Those changes require prioritizing safety and allocating resources to make it happen on the ground.”
Aren’t these the same folks that wail about banning guns, confiscating guns, etc. in the name of “gun safety”? Whilst, of course, accompanied by their armed bodyguards when they leave their security-manned gated communities.

More of the rules for thee, not for me crowd. The “elite” including wealthy entertainers do not want the same restrictions that they want for you, you smelly peasant.
God forbid they contact the NRA for advice.
The actor, John Wilkes Booth, was unavailable for comment.
Okay, but what if the armorer is an idiot (like last time)?
Another piece of feel-good legislation, yippee.
For years, I thought that only stage prop guns were used that couldn’t take regular hand gun rounds.
I did too, until I learned that a “prop gun” is a non-functioning gun replica that is usually not used for action sequences, or is mainly going to remain in a character’s holster, whereas a “stunt gun” is generally a real gun that has been modified to fire blanks.
Be careful. I was thoroughly chastised here for similar thoughts.. I was told in no uncertain terms that a “prop” gun is any gun used on a set. You’ve been warned. Good luck.
I have the perfect way of handling that.
If anyone wants to disagree with me….you’re just a poopy head, and I’ll hold my breath until I turn gay.
Well, ya know, the gubmint HAS to do something in cases like this. I mean, we’ve had ONE WHOLE SITUATION in which a dumb ass mishandled a gun on set and managed to kill someone with an actual, live round.
MOST of the time it involves dumb asses mishandling stunt guns, with blanks, putting them up to their heads to pretend to commit suicide and actually sending a wax plug into their cranium. You can’t legislate against stupid.
Well to be fair, there have been some others, usually equally stupid. One dude was goofing around, and took a .44 Magnum revolver that had blanks in it, aimed it at his head, and blew a wad into his brain pan. There are others.
John Erik Hexum… did that in ’84.
What was blown into Hexum’s brain was skull fragments. The cardboard wad was likely in small pieces.
Like I said, a piece of wax.
If it saves even one liberal actor.
All it takes is one, self-important, know it all celebutard to eff it up for everyone.
