Energy secretary recommends weatherizing your homes to lower costs

| August 23, 2022

Jennifer Granholm recommends that if you are low income, you can leverage infrastructure laws to weatherize your home without paying. For those who have moderate income, solar panels can be 30% off. The rest of the solar panel costs can be financed.

From Townhall:

Americans suffering under the crushing weight of historic inflation should be happy to know they can reduce their energy costs by weatherizing their homes, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“If you are low income, you can get your home entirely weatherized through the expansion from the bipartisan infrastructure laws, a significant expansion — you don’t have to pay for anything,” Granholm said.

“If you want heat pumps, insulation, new windows, that is covered,” she continued. “If you are moderate income, today you can get 30% off the price of solar panels. Those solar panels can be financed, so you don’t have to have the big outlay at the front … it’s a significant incentive.”

Even Americans who don’t qualify can see some perks next year, she added.

“If you don’t qualify for the weatherization program, you will be able to, starting next year, get rebates on the appliances and equipment that will help you reduce your monthly energy bill by up to 30%,” she added. “That is all about reducing costs for people.”

Townhall has the article here.

Huh?

I usually just close off rooms I do not use in the winter and summer.

Tallywhagger

Do solar panels have an R value?

26Limabeans

Yes, it is the “rebate” value when you buy into the buy back
better climate infrastructure inititave to fight global warming.
Even better than the BBB inititive is the wind pumps plan
that can turn groundwater into hot water at half the cost once
the additional rebates and tax restructuring is applied.
Follow the science.

Green Thumb

No, but you will need “R” to calculate the monetary vs energy savings.

“Weatherizing”
I do not think that word means what you think it means.

So my house is brand new with full insulation, tankless HW, high efficiency appliances. Not much room there.

Ignoring that low income likely won’t own their own home they can’t afford it anyway.

The South is lousy with low income people. If you live in LA, MS, GA or AL they have the shitiest net metering laws in the country. You will actually lose money installing solar, possibly even if the panels and system were free if you grid connect. My power company charges $25 a month just to feed power into the grid.

KoB

Much the same here 5JC. Firebase Magnolia is an 1830 – 1870s farmhouse. When the renovation was started back in 2010 it was gutted (with the exception of the downstairs original lattice and plaster), insulation and very high efficient HVAC/HW/plumbing/electric. Gas pack downstairs (Trane) and heat pump for the upstairs. Gas company has an automatic “pass thru fee” of a minimum of $50 a month to “reserve” my share of gas in the pipeline. Last month I used $1.87 cents worth of gas for cooking and the other “fees” made the total bill nearly $70. Last winter the heating bill for the downstairs was running $500 a month. And no, my income level is way yonder too high for any of these “incentives”. And yep, most of the “low income” people down here DO NOT own their home, but if you counted their total “income” from all the free shit they git, their “income” would be higher than the allowed amount.

Taxing productive Americans to redistribute fiat to less-productive citizens so they can purchase shitty chicomm solar panels because the strategic petroleum sold to china, via the pResident’s son’s company, didnt spur the Centrally Planned ‘Economy’ as well as they’d hoped?

Yeah, phuck off, C*nt

Did I miss anything?

5JC

You missed that what you are saying is currently impossible. Due to the China Forced Labor Law that went into effect a couple of months ago you can’t get Chinese Solar panels.

She was my governor at one time. Michigan was stupid enough to elect her twice. Typical government official, she failed up. Should of sent her back to Canada.

Yeah, instead we got Granholm 2.0 in the Gretch. They should make a movie about these two, Dumb and Really Effin Dumb.

Give it a week before the Biden – Harris Administration redefines “you don’t have to pay for anything”. You might as well go ahead and participate, because you will be paying for it from the increased taxes they levy on the Adorable Deplorables.

When that fails the checkbook will come out.

Save money by buying a $95K electric car, poor people! Let ’em eat cake!

Jennifer Granholm may eat a turd.

“you don’t have to pay for anything,” Granholm said.”

Uh, oh yes, WE do! We taxpayers will be paying for low-rent landlords to get free crap, installed by low crap companies which will do nothing.

I am blessed to live under the Bonneville Power Administration. Our power comes from a customer-owned utility district supplied by nuclear and hydroelectric. On our budget plan for a 2200 SF home, our monthly is $174. It has gone up over the years but when I hear folks from the South or Northeast who live under say, Duke Power in the Carolinas and they pay $400 to $700 a month I am not complaining. Our NG is $46 per month due to a similar gas company.

Point is, this free government stuff is not free. If the dildos in charge would see the true value of hydroelectric and nuclear power, hard-working people and retirees could have affordable and reliable power.

Remember this gem from their fearless leader back in June.

“At the beginning of June, Biden authorized the Defense Production Act to spur US solar manufacturing….”

“The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced $56 million in funding to boost US solar manufacturing and recycling.
Of those funds, $10 million will come from President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.”

10% for the big guy???
Worthless piece of Scheiße!

Officials of the Solyndra Corp. were unavailable for comment.

“…at best, reckless and irresponsible…at worst, an orchestrated effort to knowingly and intentionally deceive and mislead the Department.” “…{Energy} Department’s due diligence efforts were less than fully effective.”

Coincidence that a Deleware Judge ruled that the taxpayers would get nothing but the “owners” would get a nice tax windfall “loss”?

How many Solyndras will that buy?

SKYJUMPER

So, I was just checking out Joe & “Doctor” Jill Biden’s homes, and not a solar panel in sight. Hmmmmmm.

You fotgot the wall, Err, I mean fence around the house

5JC

They are all over the White House and grounds. Bush had them installed in 2003 on the grounds and Obama put them on the roof in 2014.

SKYJUMPER

5JC , I agree that they are on the White House, but they are no wheres to be seen on Biden’s personal houses.

Roh-Dog

Swimming pools are a horrendous waste that one takes on wittingly, or regrettably.

Joe can’t math.

Sparks

Having had both, pools are holes in the ground you throw money in and boats are holes in the water you throw money in. Never again.

poetrooper

The best compromise is a hot tub–but you still may have to throw some money in it… 😜

5JC

I see plenty of low income people with an above ground pool in front of their double wide. I bet right after voting for Joe Biden their next thought was “Where do I get me some of them solar panels to charge my Tesla?”.

rgr769

He has to have somewhere to swim naked.

A Proud Infidel®™️

Meh, look at the multiple mansions owned by Al Gore Junior and you won’t find even a single windmill or solar panel on any of them!

Yep, the most environmentally friendly president (and thrifty) living the life is George W. Bush.

They just continue to demonstrate how cluelessly stupid they all are.

And here we were thinking it was just the Resident.

A lot of the so called discounts or fed rebates are part of scamming ops by shady solar dealers. You also have a significant haz mat situation when the panels hit their wear out date / condition as they can’t be just put in the dump. Plenty of utility districts are also refusing to “buy” extra power from solar customers and some areas provide additional taxes for homeowners who installed solar. There are several articles and video’s about the scams out.
