Florida deputy shoots, kills man; two others shot, one fatally, undersheriff says

Abigail Hasebroock, Orlando Sentinel
ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed a man while two others were shot, including one fatally, at an Orange Blossom Trail hotel in Orlando Saturday afternoon, Undersheriff Mark Canty said.

Deputies responded to reports of gunshots fired at Heritage Hotel, 7900 South Orange Blossom Trail, around 12:36 p.m. Once OCSO arrived, they found one man who had been shot and another man with a gun.

OCSO deputies asked the man with the gun to drop the weapon, but he refused. A deputy then shot the suspect, Canty said at a news conference.

Shortly after the OCSO deputy shot the man with the gun, they found another man who had been shot before the deputies arrived. All three were taken to the hospital.

Indiana Homeowner Fatally Shoots Intruder, ‘If You Come And Take It, There’s Consequences’

Holly Matkin
Indianapolis, IN – A armed robbery suspect was fatally shot by an Indiana homeowner during a midnight home invasion on July 29.

It was the second time in the past eight years that Howard Murphy has shot an intruder to defend himself inside his house, WRTV reported.

“If they don’t want to understand, then I guess I’m going to have to make them understand,” Murphy told the news outlet, referring to the criminals who have broken into his home.

The latest incident occurred in the 900-block of West 34th Street near the Crown Hill Cemetery shortly after 4 am. On July 29, WISH reported.

Murphy said he heard someone break out a side window of his house, so he grabbed his gun and headed downstairs to confront the intruder, according to WANE.

Murphy said the suspect, later identified as 64-year-old Steve Sheppard, was inside his living room when he intercepted him rifling through his belongings.

One wonders how Mr. Sheppard managed to survive this long. At least his demise gives us a TAH Monday FGS Trifecta. So there’s that.

One of the significant dangers involved when in a shooting situation is how to behave when the Police show up. Keep in mind the Cops have NO idea which party is the good guy. They generally get little or even no info as to who is involved or what their description is before arriving. So when they do get there and the nice Officer / Deputy say to put the gun down, drop that bitch like it’s made of lava. Do NOT turn towards them with it in your hand so it points at them. Do not try to explain ANYTHING at that time, just drop the gat and put your hands up so they can get started sorting things out. Do what they say.

Ahem… 1. The Heritage Hotel [in Orlando] is a problem every day. It is on the southern edge of the Sector IV “Combat Zone”. 2. Having worked in that agency for 31 years [6 years in that sector], I can tell you that the deputy didn’t ASK the turd to drop the gun. I can assure you the order was a tad more graphic than that. Good Shoot my brother.
