Air Force Academy Cadets Expeled

| April 16, 2022

The US Air Force Academy has expelled 22 cadets and placed hundreds more on probation for cheating that occurred during Covid homeschooling.

In the last months of the spring 2020 semester, the decision was made to send all freshmen and sophomores to remote learning due to an increase in the incidence of coronavirus cases.

While away from the campus, some cadets accessed banned websites, plagiarized articles and collaborated on individual tests, all of which are strictly prohibited.

Air Force Academy expels 22 cadets for 2020 cheating scandal

By Rachel S. Cohen

The U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado has expelled 22 students and put hundreds more on probation for cheating and plagiarism while learning from home in 2020, the school’s top officer said Wednesday.

In the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, the Colorado Springs college decided to send all freshmen, sophomores and juniors home for the final months of the spring 2020 semester while seniors finished out their last year on campus.

The sudden switch to distance learning invited one of the most widespread spates of academic misconduct in the academy’s history. Away from campus, students sought help on unauthorized websites, plagiarized papers and collaborated on tests.

The vast majority of cadets who were suspected of cheating — 231 of the 245 students — admitted to their actions, according to a presentation given by USAFA Superintendent Lt. Gen. Richard Clark at an academy board meeting. That’s about 6% of the more than 4,000 cadets who attend the academy each year.

In total, 210 cadets were put on probation, which typically lasts six months, and 22 were kicked out.

Those expelled for honor violations should finish their service obligations as an E-1 in Thule, Greenland. Thanks, David.

Average clueless amoral civilian Libotard:

“So they cheated on a couple of papers and tests. Big deal. So what? Who cares? Everyone does that.”

Me:

“Yeah, I want Air Force aircraft to be flown in combat by pilots who cheated their way through the Air Force Academy and then cheated their way through USAF flight school. What could possibly go wrong?”

Good riddance. USAF should have probably given a lot more than just 22 cadets the boot.

^This^ Testify. Remember when The Service Acadamies only accepted and then turned out only the best and the brightest. With morals and character. Even Pepperidge Farms only dimly remembers.

A Former Commandant of the USMA and President of a small college in Virginia, weeps.

Had a PAS who said “If you not cheating, you’re not trying; if you get caught, you’re not officer material anyway.” Dirtbag made O6.

The night of February 1st or 2nd 1967 the USMC rifle company I was with was bombed by the Air Force leaving one dead and several wounded, thankfully he only had two bombs to dump.

Boot ’em.

Unfortunately, that’s probably not going to happen. Current policy (CFR) says that service academy cadets in their first 2 years who get tossed go into the reserves to complete their military service obligation but don’t get ordered to active duty as enlisted. Only those cadets in their 3rd and 4th years get ordered to active duty as enlisted personnel if they resign or get tossed. And even that’s limited to 4 years max. Info is found about halfway through the following section of the CFR:

https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/32/217.6

My recollection was that the bulk of those caught cheating in this incident were in their first or second year at the AFA.

Don’t want them in my enlisted ranks, anyway.

Put a sword in their hands with the option of falling on it, or spend their civilian lives repaying the taxpayer for their tuition. The dishonorable have few other options to reclaim their dignity.

FWIW: best I can tell, the majority of early separations from the service academies are usually for other than honor code violations. In general, academic failure or “this just isn’t for me” epiphanies seem to be the most common reasons for cadets/midshipmen leaving early. Physical or disciplinary issues (including honor code violations) appear to be a much smaller fraction most years.

IMO the first two categories (academic failure or “this just isn’t for me” decision) don’t – and shouldn’t – disqualify anyone from serving in uniform. The last two categories (physical or disciplinary issues) probably should.

Transferred to USMC, 0300.

Nope; sorry.

Cheaters (liars) don’t have any place in a Marine Corps infantry unit. They don’t last very long once their bullshit is discovered.

210 cadets were put on probation like Dean Wormer’s double secret probation. Wheres Blutarsky and D-Day when you need them.

Carlton

How is there any sort of “probation” for an Honor Code violation?

Modern moral fuzziness and ass-kissery.

So much for that whole “do the right thing even when nobody’s looking” thing. I guess I’m a chump for signing up for a history degree (because I know my limits) and not simply cheating my way through a “real” degree even though we didn’t have an honor code in ROTC…..
