Captured Russian soldier to mom – “…everything we are told is BS”
Videos of captured Russian soldiers calling their moms are surfacing on social media. What these soldiers tell their moms appear to run along similar themes, that the Ukrainians are treating them well, that they are being taken care of, and that what they had been told about what was going on in Ukraine is not true… That the Russians are the aggressors.
Redditor u/aradle provided the following translation to one of the calls, above photo:
I’m warm, I’m fed. I can tell you, everything we’ve been told is bullshit. We’re sitting her now, myself and the guys who brought me, and I can say one thing, I have no idea what the fuck we were told all this stuff for. Here, they have asphalt roads even in the villages, with lighting, everywhere. Fuck, I – [incomprehensible over the phone] – everything they are telling us on TV is bullshit, I am here myself right now, and I know what it’s like, I’m telling you [phone chatter] In Kharkiv our own army is bombing the city, not the Ukrainians, our own army, they are walking through the streets [and bombing]. Just so you understand, we’ve been brought here and tossed out like fucking pigs –
Transcribed and translated with faithful amounts of foul language O.O
As for Ukrainians that are recovering abandoned Russian vehicle and equipment, they do not have to declare it on their tax forms.
Tweet:
Message from the Ukrainian tax office: “Have you captured a Russian tank or armored personnel carrier and are worried about how to declare it? Keep calm and continue to defend the Motherland! There is no need to declare [them as income].”

The insurance bit is funny! 😆
The IRS would levy a capitol gains tax, based on the Kelley Blue Book value.
Used T-72s are still worth a bit, of course…
The Russian Military of Defense debated yesterday/last night, have officially declared there will be no exchange of prisoners and no reclaiming their dead. Ukraine responds (emphasis mine) –
From official FB of Ministry Defense of Ukraine
IMPORTANT! EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!
We ask you to deliver this message to the thousands of miserable Russian mothers, whose sons have been captured in Ukraine.
Decision was made to give Russian soldiers taken captive back to their mothers if they come for them in Ukraine, in Kyiv.
What needs to be done to bring your son back from captivity? 1.Call the phone number indicated in the leaflet in order to know whether your son is in captivity or died, you need to go to the telegram channel Груз 200 https://t.me/gruz_200_rus Or call to the helpline of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine – “Come back alive from Ukraine” to multi-channel phones. +380894
+380894201860 +380894201861 +380894201862
Or write to the following e-mail: Vernis_iz_ukraine@gmail.com
Then, once you have received confirmation that your son is in our captivity, mothers of Russian soldiers should get to Kyiv.
Upon invasion of Putin’s fascist army and airspace closure, it is possible to do it in this way: Get to Kaliningrad or Minsk. From there you can go by bus or taxi to the Polish border. There you will be met and escorted to Kyiv, where your son will be handed over to you.
We, Ukrainian people, in contrast to Putin’s fascists do not make war with mothers and their captured sons.
We are waiting for you in Kyiv! Link to the channel: https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/13.1.0/svg/1f449-1f3fb.svg https://t.me/gruz_200_rus
As I have said in relation to other conflicts, send the Mothers. There is no greater, more fierce, more determined or deadly fighting force.
Spot on Only Army Mom. Those of us with some life experience would rather try to sandpaper a wildcat’s behind while locked inside a phone booth than to take on a pissed off Mama.
I still think that Vlad Teh Stoopid is holding back his Class A Formations for…reasons. YMMV
Proof of that is here:

Many reasons I’m sure and there have been accounts of massive dissent in the Russian Ranks to include a Russian Marine Unit committing Mutiny and refusing to land on the beaches of Odessa.
I’m not crying everybody else plus me is crying.
This encourages and continues my faith in humanity on this planet
The last thing Putin wants is a protest built around ten day combat vets calling his war bullshit built on lies and sinking into the mud. He definitely doesn’t want those kids back.
I’m not sure that Vlad expected them to live this long.
Putin on his expected losses.
Imagine going off to war, being captured, and then having to wait for your mom to come get you.
Ok so. It was riots, not war but, can you imagine if this were a Cyrillic ass whuppin’?
Someone is gonna get a Field Grade статья 15.
Next duty: Snow Shovelman First Class at Port
Severnaya Zvezda, Krasnoyarsk Krai
Does the extended warranty on your recently acquired BTR-90 count as a business expense?

Not just that, others have been posting videos of how to start and drive Russian equipment, they’re being “Slicky Boy” to the Russkies!
I hope this is true, the article says that a Unit of Russian marines, mostly Conscripts, mutinied and refused to assault Odessa.
Russian Marines Mutiny When Ordered to Attack Ukrainian Beach, Assault Canceled: Report (thefederalistpapers.org)
Further Military Intelligence reports indicates that the troops did not mutiny, but senior commanders recalled them when it was discovered that they did not complete their LGBQT Diversity Training.
extremism in the ranks???
Milley and Austin would lose their minds!!!
Seems odd that Russian forces would contact Ukraine and tell them the attack has been canceled.
I do feel for these conscripts that are POW’s. Most tell the same story even though most of the YT comments sections have some posters saying it’s all fake. Calling the POW confessions fake could also be a campaign of disinformation, but I tend to believe given the overall view of the war from my computer. The only Russian dead I have seen (very few dead overall shown) are wearing black Spetsnaz uniforms which are their professional soldiers. None of them are POW’s that I see.
If you want to look at dead Russians help yourself.

I am betting the Ukraine held off posting these to encourage surrender.
Speaking of videos, and for lack of an open thread on Ukraine, here’s the catchy ‘Bayraktar’ song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGVZHLOV60E
Sadly, I think things are likely to get more severe for Ukraine the next few days. Here’s to hoping they manage to prevail.
(And for those who don’t recognize the name: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baykar_Bayraktar_TB2 )
I’m having a more and more difficult time believing the stories coming out of Ukraine.
While telling an enemy warship to “go fuck themselves” (assuming I can believe the audio) remains a ballsy move, it apparently wasn’t some valiant dying act. I’ve yet to see any real evidence of a MiG-29 ace. The video of a mid-size tractor supposedly pulling a 12-ton MT-LB simply doesn’t work. Some Texas idiot, supposedly fighting for Russia, but the tracks behind him are labeled “RUS” rather than “РОС” …perhaps my olfactory joint is out of alignment, but this shit just smells funny.
Don’t get me wrong – propaganda is an important part of war. I’m not opposed to such efforts. I’d just like to see some real data.
Speaking of, has anyone found a list describing what specific Russian equipment has been destroyed? All the lists I’ve seen just say “x helicopters, x tanks, x APCs, etc.” There’s a huge difference between a T-72 and a T-90 (not in design, but in capability). Any T-14s?
I think it’s clear the ace story is false, sadly. The Texas idiot, however, is real – at least the broader aspects of it:
https://www.texasmonthly.com/articles/son-wealthy-businessman-foot-soldier-vladimir-putin-russia-hacking/
So it’s likely all a mixed bag. And I’d say the soldiers on Snake Island couldn’t know it wasn’t a valiant dying act, so they still deserve credit for their defiance.
Already saw the Texas Monthly story… it read more like creative writing than journalism (don’t let the date distract you, the Donbas War has been ongoing for eight years – or a hoax could easily code in a false date). Still doesn’t explain the Roman lettering on the tracks when both nations write in Cyrillic.
I’m not begrudging the Snake Island defenders, but the sheer amount of bullshit propaganda being published in favor of Ukraine makes me doubt whether they actually had any Molon Labe moment to begin with (biggest tragedy, in my mind – they held that wall, but I’m found doubting brave men because the heroic hyperbole went too far). At this point, I can’t truly dismiss the idea that they did just drop their arms and raise their hands. For the sake of their souls, I hope I’m wrong.
I want to believe. I just cannot lie to myself.
Makes me wonder about all the Russian vehicles I’ve seen with the letter Z in a square on the doors, backs and/or sides. Wouldn’t it be the Cyrillic equivalent of Z?
it looks like a 3…
But, as for recognition markers, any mark will do.
My own opinion is that it is on the vehicles not as a recognition marker or destination marker, but as an IO exercise. But who knows. Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter.
It matters to me in that it gives me another reason to question the authenticity of the entire narrative I’m being fed.
Propaganda is, ultimately, a series of con games. The mark of absolute failure is losing the confidence of the audience – then, even your truths seem like lies.
In certain stylings, З can look like a Z with a little tail. Still doesn’t make sense with the giant RUS.
It’s worth noting that Ukraine (and several other nations, along with prop suppliers) has the same model vehicle in their fleet.
Z is easier to make/see. Other than that, both sides use dark green Russky/Soviet equipment– hard to tell apart.
The most common marking you see on Russian vehicles Z & V are designators from Division/Corp not sure how the Russians are organized.
Z= Zapad or WEST
V=Vostok or EAST
Keep in mind that they were not trained soldiers but basically border cops.
True, glad the Snake Island guys survived.
Re Zelenskyy, we keep getting these reports of decapitation hit teams and video of him playing soldier, hell he was on a live tv show ffs.
Now I’m no superduper SIGINT Jedi master but I have to believe that if the Ruskies wanted to they could get enough datas spillage to missile that guy to goo or at least flip one of his inner circle with a substantial enough bribe.
Think about it logically. Don’t you think the Russians would find Z’s inner circle’s families’ locations and black bag the fuck out of them for leverage?
I don’t for one fucking second think that we have seen anything on MSM or supported and promoted by big tech that has been remotely true.
Thats my two pennies.
I’m wary of assuming anything about Russia’s or Putin’s thought process, but I don’t believe removing Zelenskyy is the main objective. I don’t buy the simplistic idea that he’s some evil super genius, nor that he’s some two-dimensional bully.
I find it hard to believe that anyone with his experience wouldn’t anticipate universal condemnation from the West. Whatever his reasons, he felt they were worth the risk. If he fails, best case, he finds himself in front of The Hague.
He’s on dying ground – that, alone, is reason not to underestimate him.
Nothing I’ve seen from the MSM has come across as anything but hollow cheerleading. Hope is not a winning strategy.
Taking Putin’s words at face value he laid out a pretty good case and reason for acting when he did. Man met his limit.
Putin is a “super genius, nor that he’s some two-dimensional bully”? Yeah, clearly not. The LPR & DPR situation would have been handled a lot harsher if that were the case. There were no ‘good guys’ on that front but he could have interceded with way more mil support had he wished.
Zelenskyy might be a little on the authoritarian side (also) but violence doesn’t/hadn’t been a go-to for his cabinet (again, no data to support that statement, just a lack of open evidence).
Putin has been walking down this road for some time. He knows the only real response will be economic. Since 2019 Russia divested half of their US Bonds and have been buying gold hand-over-fist. In addition to oil and wheat they are the number 2 (or 3, depending) platinum producing country. (who destabilized #1?).
Sad fact is Europe needs Russia far more than Russia needs…
There’s also the huge hegemony vacuum left from the US’s ongoing retreat from the world stage (can’t blame that entirely on Biden). Russia is now the Emirates’ biggest supplier of wheat, and Saudi sees the Bear as something of a peer in the energy trade. Turkey has maintained its distance from the rest of NATO, and has very real reason to plan for the worst in the Black Sea. The other BRICS nations all have a vested interest in a change in the global economic status quo. Russia is still to be involved in any potential Iran deal, and China is going to do whatever helps China.
I don’t believe he’s a super genius, I just don’t accept the narrative that he’s a dullard. I’m also pretty wary of taking his words at face value – he’s not a communist nor a Soviet but, if there’s anything he shares with Stalin, it’s a belief that diplomacy is something fundamentally divorced from the truth.
It’s gonna be a very interesting year.
The russians have no legit claim at all to the Ukraine. They stole it by force in 1919.
I’m not sure whether they have a legit claim or not…the ancestral seat of the Kievan Rus and Ruthenians is Kyev, but people move around a lot and there’s only so far back one can go and still argue “this is MY land, NOT yours” (plus, ethnic Ukrainians can claim the same heritage). Then again, we have certain Native American tribal claims that they have sole right to stolen lands when it’s known they stole those lands from other tribes (such as Mohawk claims in the St. Lawrence Valley).
Russia does have legitimate security concerns regarding Ukraine. Whether those concerns are worth war… that’s a judgement call that I, thankfully, don’t have to make.
Not sure “Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women” is a good “case and reason”. But you are the pacifist peacenik so maybe you see reason in that.
I’m sorry I don’t want to bathe in the blood of women and children for some non-issue, 7 timezones away.
At the moment I have zero faith that NATO won’t misstep and cause that very scenario.
Nothing we think or feel will change the outcome in Ukraine, maybe, just maybe our* protestations will sway the soft heads of our totally legitimately elected ‘leadership’.
If you want to continue to make excuses for the beast system and wave the flag of your slave masters, by allllll means have at it.
Edit: ‘or’ to ‘our’, removal of comma.
I know you hate NATO with a passion. They must have fondled you when you were young. But… Worst slave drivers evah… NATO hasn’t ever asked me to do a thing. They haven’t any laws that effect my life, have no economic policy that is destroying my country and have never tried to silence my dissent when I make a comment about the idiocy of the president or various others in government or even NATO themselves. If I were to go out and peaceably protest NATO in the streets today, I will not get sent to jail.
Just now I looked up the leader of NATO and it was some Admiral from Norway. Had no idea. Last I heard it was some General from the Chek Republic.
The only time they ever even hurt my feelings was when I couldn’t shop at the foreign PX on Ft. Bliss. The clerk said (and I quote); Must be member of NATO.” I felt like as a US service member I was but alas…
How do you edit posts? I get angry whenever I make a spelling or grammatical error, but I can’t figure out how to correct such.
(I’m only ever on my phone, if that makes a difference)
Short of a miracle they can’t win but America loves to root for an under dog. If Russia were a free country they would only have to win the media war.
But they aren’t .
Yeah, but it is such good propaganda. Some of this stuff is really creative and funny.
Of course, much of it is hilarious and much of it is effective. By the time word got out that all the Zmiinyi Island troops were alive, the “dying stand” idea had garnered huge support and faded from headlines.
Propaganda is a great tool, whether on one’s own joes and allies or against the enemy. Except when it becomes too much to believe, then it can backfire by undermining faith in anything one says.
Hate_me,
To see a confirmed list of killed Russian equipment, go to “Oryxblog”
They keep track of equipment losses in different wars
With photos of each listed item and the likely method of destruction
Thank you!!!
Exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.
Kinda reminds me of American POWs being paraded by the North Vietnamese and telling the western press how well they were treated.
Blink code for пытка (torture)?
US POWs were tortured for years. These guys were given hot chow for the first time in a week and were ready to go home.
Just sayin’ –
Geneva Convention –
Beyond the protection from violence, intimidation and affronts to personal dignity, prisoners of war are supposed to be safeguarded from “public curiosity” (Geneva III). The broadcasting of pictures and video of prisoners of war is an affront to their dignity and an appeal to public curiosity, and as such is prohibited.
“everything they are telling us on TV is bullshit“
I hear ya.
