Prematurely posted Russian victory article internet archived before deletion
The Russians were expecting to secure a quick victory in Ukraine. With their victory complete, historical moment victory articles explaining Putin’s motivation for the invasion would have been published. In his mind, Ukrainians were Russians, and Ukraine was a part of Russia.
His objective was to bring them back into the fold. This was an immediate objective. He also had a geostrategic objective, to displace the West from the global leadership position and to establish a new multipolar order. Unfortunately for Russia, Ukraine has other plans.
From an archived Russian article:
Russia restores its unity — the tragedy of 1991, this terrible catastrophe of our history, its unnatural dislocation, has been overcome. Yes, at a high price, yes, through the tragic events of the actual civil war, because now brothers are still shooting at each other, separated by belonging to the Russian and Ukrainian armies — but Ukraine as there will be no more anti-Russia. Russia is restoring its historical fullness by gathering the Russian world, the Russian people together — in all its totality of Great Russians, Belarusians and Little Russians. If we had abandoned this, if we had allowed the temporary division to take hold for centuries, we would not only have betrayed the memory of our ancestors, but we would have been cursed by our descendants for allowing the disintegration of the Russian land.
Vladimir Putin took upon himself, without a drop of exaggeration, historical responsibility, deciding not to leave the solution of the Ukrainian question to future generations. After all, the need to solve it would always remain the main problem for Russia — for two key reasons. And the issue of national security, that is, the creation of an anti-Russia from Ukraine and an outpost for the pressure of the West on us, is only the second most important among them.
The first would always be the complex of a divided people, a complex of national humiliation — when the Russian house first lost part of its foundation (Kiev), and then had to accept the existence of two states of not one, but two peoples. That is, either to abandon their history, agreeing with the insane versions that “only Ukraine is the real Rus”, or to impotently gnash their teeth, remembering the times when “we lost Ukraine”. To return Ukraine, that is, to turn it back to Russia, with each decade would be more and more difficult — recoding, de-Russification of Russians and turning against Russian Little Russians-Ukrainians, would gain momentum. And if the full geopolitical and military control of the West over Ukraine is consolidated, its return to Russia would become completely impossible — it would have to fight for it with the Atlantic bloc.
Now this problem does not exist — Ukraine has returned to Russia. This does not mean that its statehood will be liquidated, but it will be restructured, re-established and returned to its natural state part of the Russian world. Within what borders, in what form the union with Russia will be fixed (through CSTO and Eurasian Union or Union State Russia and Belarus)? This will be decided after the end is put to the history of Ukraine as an anti-Russia. In any case, the period of split of the Russian people is coming to an end.
And here begins the second dimension of the coming new era — it concerns Russia’s relations with the West. Not even Russia, but the Russian world, that is, three states, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, acting geopolitically as a single whole. These relations have entered a new stage — the West sees Russia’s return to its historical borders in Europe. And he loudly resents this, although deep down he must admit to himself that it could not have been otherwise.
Is there anyone in the old European capitals, in Paris and Berlin, seriously believed that Moscow will refuse Kiev? That Russians will forever be a divided people? And at the same time, when Europe is uniting, when the German and French elites are trying to seize control over European integration from the Anglo-Saxons and assemble a united Europe? Forgetting that the unification of Europe became possible only through unification Germany, which happened by Russian good (albeit not very clever) will. To swing after that also on Russian lands is the height not even of ingratitude, but of geopolitical stupidity. The West as a whole, and even more so Europe individually, did not have the strength to keep in its sphere of influence, and even more so to take Ukraine for itself. Not to understand this, one had to be just geopolitical fools.
More precisely, there was only one option: to bet on the further collapse of Russia, that is, the Russian Federation. But the fact that it didn’t work should have been clear twenty years ago. And fifteen years ago, after Putin’s Munich speech, even a deaf person could hear that Russia was returning.
You could read more of their alleged reasoning for the invasion at this archived link. You’ll be given the opportunity to translate into English.

Hilarity.
Was just on my way over to post that.
It is a conspiracy of dunces.
Sorry. Big fat fingers touched incorrectly.
Presuming this is a real accident and not some kind of Anonymous/MIC plant:

Very evocative and astute statement. East Germany is still scarred from the occupation and much resentment still exists. Also I fear the experiment of a Unified Europe is slipping from the monied interests that synthesized that abomination.
I wish the Russia Fed had listened to the EU integration polls from Ukraine. Rightly or wrongly they had been leaning that way, maybe as a way to crush corruption, perhaps out of protectionism.
Guess we’ll never know if it would have happened organically.
Look what happened when Frau hillary lost and you could see the victory cake splattered all over the place. If I knew you were coming id have baked a cake. Hopefully the Ukranians will turn out to be the winners
A-freaking-men!
It will be an uphill slog if the reconstruction loans go to grift. There is no earthly reason that country couldn’t be as rich monetarily as they are in spirit.
The graft must have been a hold over from the Soviet system. The Vlasti were able to take as they pleased and to hell with the proles.
The Russian strategy seems to be to encircle the cities, while destroying military installations. The vast majority of civilian infrastructure in the areas under attack have been untouched and are functioning normally. It also seems very clear that the Russians have used their older equipment and less experienced soldiers in this initial assault. Very few of the high-tech modern weaponry that the Russians possess are being used in this first push. This would lead one to believe that the Russians want to probe and exhaust Ukrainian defenses before bringing out top-tier units and materiel.
Russia has complete control of the airspace given the headlines of a 50km convoy today.
This ain’t over by a long shot.
Most likely Russia will control everything east of the Dienper and “allow” them to declare independence.
That’s one of the bizarre things to see. There’s people just going about their lives in the midst of all this. Driving to work, dodging artillery and rockets. I saw something that looked Ukrainian police had some Russian tanks pulled over.
So maybe, just maybe, everything we are being fed isn’t 100% truth?
Fancy that.
(and before my detractors show up and accuse me of Larsification, I respect the sovereignty and will of the Ukrainian people)
I respect the people too but their legitimately elected leadership was throw out of power by a coup that jailed all the opposition parties leadership. Ukraine is corrupt as hell. Are they still paying the Bidens? If only we could gt our government to care this much about the invasion on our border. If the media is talking you can be sure they are lying.
This is a very loud echo from 2014’s Maidan.
Not-a-soul in the MSM will place blame at Nuland’s feet either nor will they lay out how complex this situation is. I’m faaaarrrrr from an expert but damn are there lies. I don’t know and wasn’t there, but I’d really like my government to stay the hell out of it. For once.
Agree about borders, here and abroad.
US Army and Marine Corps now call it Maneuver Warfare. The WW2 German Army called it the Blitzkrieg.
The Russians don’t seem to be very blitzy about it. Given the estimated casualties in men and gear, this would be more like what we called low intensity conflict.
Don’t believe the media narrative about what’s going on over there. The Ukraine subreddit has a treasure trove of videos, photos, and accounts of what is going on there. It has become an extension of their “command and control” and “Combat Information Center”. Other social media sites provide a wealth of information that you won’t get from the news.
If the Russians push on with this, it’s going to be a long, drawn out, quagmire for them. The Europeans are providing the Ukrainians with material and financial support. Ukraine has even stood up a “legion” consisting of foreigners wanting to fight for Ukraine.
Heck, this would be a good opportunity for some of the phonies out there. They don’t have to make up service in Iraq, Afghanistan, or other US military campaign. But would they “walk the walk” or just brag?

I forget where I read it, but it was in one of the articles informing American vets how to join the legion of foreign volunteers (Military Times, maybe?).
It encouraged foreign vets (it seemed like you needed to verify prior service) to wear their national uniforms. This both impresses and worries me…
Zelenskyy cannot outlast a concerted Russian effort, no matter how much financial support other nations lend him, without the eventual aid of foreign troops…
Talk enough American/British/Polish/etc. vet volunteers into wearing a flag on their shoulder, eventually that NATO nation sees one of their own paraded around as a Russian POW…
Either that bargaining table gets real lopsided real fast, or Ukraine finds herself the beneficiary of one great big coalition force.
Where is colonel vindman. He is Ukrainian so it would seem this would be his time to shine.
He would shine even more if he supported them from there.
If he were there, he’d be putting on a dress and catching a train to the Polish border.
Even if I were to go over there and do that, I would not wear my Marine uniform. The russkies see someone in that uniform shooting at them and things could go sideways in a hurry. There is a document I got ahold of from the Ukrainian government about how to go about joining their “foreign legion”, and it is well thought out and detailed. It appears that when you get there you sign an enlistment contract into their army.
To quote Homer Simpson…
Here’s a link showing the video the above screen came from:

There are two really popular videos making their rounds right now, one is of some Ukrainian Farmer towing an APC away with his tractor, the other is of a cute blonde gal teaching people how to start and drive the Russian equipment, so now one of the Russkies’ problems will be having their vehicles getting “jacked”!
Another big case of heartburn for Putin is he now has the Russian Oligarchs turning against him from their overseas accounts being locked down as well as the Russian Army not going according to the schedule he had set. Russian Sports Teams are also being disinvited and banned from international competitions as well, Russia hasn’t gotten the rest of the world this pissed off at them since the Red Air Force shot Korean Air Lines Flight 007 down!
Money talks and Vlad’s bullshit walks…
Almost as hilarious as the Madam President issue Newsweek printed in advance of Hillarys victory over Trump

Color me surprised. 😂
Hey Brer Vlad, how’s that Tar Baby you’re in got ahold too? Ready to send your Class A Formations thru the Brier Patch yet? Just cause you can ride your horse around half nekkid, don’t mean you’re a true Cossack. You think you got troubles now, wait till the descendants of Genghis Khan come pouring into your Northern Resource Area. Jack Ryan, John Clark, and Domingo Chavez aint gonna be around to save your happy ass.
The Russians are there to stay. The lives of his soldiers are expendable but there is only one Putin. He will die or burn Ukraine to the ground before a humiliating withdraw.
Their cause was always hopeless but they had hopes of getting help. After Biden cut off Poland from sending more planes it is kind of obvious now that he is going to hang them out to dry and keep them cut off.
