Russia launches attack against Ukraine

Reports coming out of Ukraine indicate that the Russians have moved to attack Ukrainian positions. Their government claims that they’ve shot 6 Russian planes down and took two prisoners. Explosions were heard in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, early on Thursday.

From the Associated Press:

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia launched a wide-ranging attack on Ukraine on Thursday, hitting cities and bases with airstrikes or shelling, as civilians piled into trains and cars to flee. Ukraine’s government said Russian tanks and troops rolled across the border in a “full-scale war” that could rewrite the geopolitical order and whose fallout already reverberated around the world.

In unleashing Moscow’s most aggressive action since the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, President Vladimir Putin deflected global condemnation and cascading new sanctions — and chillingly referred to his country’s nuclear arsenal. He threatened any foreign country attempting to interfere with “consequences you have never seen.”

Sirens rang out in Ukraine’s capital, large explosions were heard there and in other cities, and people massed in train stations and took to roads, as the government said the former Soviet republic was seeing a long-anticipated invasion from the east, north and south. It reported more than 40 soldiers had been killed and dozens wounded so far.

Fox News and the Associated Press has details, videos, photos, and updates.

If your administration is weak and ineffectual, don’t be surprised when your country is treated as weak and ineffectual.

Green light given to Putin on 19 January 2022 by Joe the Clueless.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/19/politics/russia-ukraine-joe-biden-news-conference/index.html

I guess it took Russia a month to decide just how “limited” their excursion into Ukraine would be.

Like elections, foolish statements by the POTUS concerning potential future actions by a potential adversary have consequences. That’s especially true when those foolish statements appear to give the go-ahead to something the potential adversary has already signaled they’re considering.

Looks like a full court press. Curious to see if those 1000 Javelin Missiles that Trump sent to the Ukraine back when he was a pawn of Russia work out for them.

C’mon, man! Brandon only told Putin that he could just “put the tip in” Miss Ukraine. If he goes full shaft, Brandon will go full financial on Putin.

Hondo

Au contraire, amigo. Clueless Joe only told Putin that the incursion had to be “limited” when he gave Russia the green light a month plus ago. He didn’t specify what he meant by “limited”.

So long as Putin doesn’t go full Mongol-style Ugrench on the entire Ukraine, I’m betting the Clueless One will likely consider it “limited” enough and do little more than voice his “extreme disapproval”.

I hope I’m wrong – though what we can do that’s constructive at this point is a damn good question. But I don’t think I am.

Let us see now if all those man portable antitank systems get used to good effect. They got a bunch of first line systems like Javelin and MANPADS to work with, and the Russians don’t do leg infantry, so each BMP killed is like a dozen little Russian empire builders dead.

5JC

Speaking of fucking catastrophes directly created by the Biden Administration oil will likely hit $120 a barrel today, the DOW drop 5-10% and stagflation is a certainty. He is going to make Carter look like a genius economist. Thank you so much for stopping the twin evils of the oil pipeline and fracking.

All the more reason to buy an electric vehicle!
Ok, I didn’t really mean that

5JC

There are lots of great reasons to buy an electric vehicle but Biden just wiped them all out. Once China invades Taiwan (A virtual certainty now) vehicle batteries will become unobtainium.

Honor and Courage

I know you didn’t!!

USAF E-5

Bought a hybrid in June. Have used 4 tanks of gas since then. Usage went Waaay up since the cold hit in November here south of Chi-town. 2 of those tanks were since then, last week the last one. Probably last until April. I have been laughing my a$$ off about my reluctance to buy one. Especially considering how much was spent on gas in the last 10 years. Frigging thing is so quiet, it’s almost scary. Mostly from those years of listening to loud music while driving big rigs. I’d recommend giving it a shot. No other reason than to see what the fuss is about.

USMC Steve

I’m sure Putin will lay down and puke from fear over the spanking the western “powers” are threatening.

Biden and Harris aren’t even paper tigers on the world stage, they’re paper dolls in a bonfire.

I wonder if the Russians have outbid the Ukranians for the control of the Biden Administration. Lets see how much goes to Hunters new job.

Everyone that voted for these clowns, or helped steal the election is responsible for this. They should get everything they deserve for the misery they’ve inflicted on the world.

Looks like NATO will be back in the Immigration Control program again. I’ll wait for the Rape and Plunder details. They sanctioned Putins pipeline that hasn’t opened. The other six pipelines supply 70% of Europe with Gas and Electricity. Somebody is going to get cold and wet before this is over. Hold on to your pocketbook!!!

As everyone out there will see that Pres Trump will most likely get blamed for this. Was mentioned on WFTL 850AM radio this morning.

5JC

This is totally Trump’s fault, the evidence is overwhelming:

  • Trump lost the election
  • Trump threatened to run again and would likely get reelected
  • Trump wouldn’t put up with this bullshit
  • Putin had no choice but to invade when he did because he might not get another chance with a doddering old man and a hooker in charge

I have never been a fan of Trump, although I did vote for him, but two three things he was really good at were foreign policy and economic and energy policies. Things were good. The stock market was up 50%, full employment, low inflation, energy independence, peace in the Middle East, no new wars. If you want a president to be good at something Foreign policy and the economy are it.

Biden fucked it all up on day one.

Mason

You must be listening to the esteemed Malcolm Nance.

Fucking insane if you can believe this shit is Trump’s fault. Just a total break from reality.

JURASSICHM

This is the distraction that Biden and the Democrats needed to divert attention from the nosedive they have put the country into since he got in office. Now they can blame it on Trump AND Putin.

USMC Steve

Non liberals won’t be at all distracted now, particularly as they watch stocks bottom out and gas skyrocket courtesy of the socialist democrat party and the fake president they installed. The libtards will simply go along with it rather than unfuck themselves and grow up.

The left just could not give up their anger at the dissolution of the USSR. Any attack or revolution aimed at their Bolshevist butt buddies is an unforgiveable sin.

This led to a US led coalition of nations doing everything possible through the 90s and early 00s to antagonize, intrude, and slow economic development so that a Putin was guaranteed. Why? Because Bolshevism.

This is the real reason behind weak democratic party treatment of Russia…they hope that Putin will restore their precious Bolshevik tyranny.

This is also why they did not want Ukraine to be an actual free nation, but the fascistic kleptocracy it is. So they could loot it, and use it to reestablish the USSR.

It really is that stupid.

5JC

That is not completely true. They were in the G8 until Obama kicked them out. Trump tried to let them back in as a carrot/ stick approach but since it was his idea it was bad. They got tons of help building pipelines and infrastructure.

The continual accusations from Putin and others that the Ukraine is led be Neo-Nazis fascists is pure fantasy.

The President is Jewish.

Ret_25X

their inclusion in the G8 was infamous…not included in meetings, not given a voting membership, not allowed to attend many of the summits. Obama merely formalized the reality that the left never wanted anything to do with Russia.

So yes, it is that stupid.

Mason

The good news is the UN Secretary General says that Putin’s decision to invade is a violation of “the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and inconsistent with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.”

Next, the Security Council will write a strongly worded letter and be as ineffective as expected.

Deckie

Did they send him to his room without dinner to think about what he did?

Roh-Dog

That’ll be after the angry finger wagging.

A Proud Infidel®™️

Poetrooper

A strongly worded letter signed by the current President of the Security Council.

Anonymous

You can’t make this up.

Hondo

Yeah. But even if the current UNSC President wasn’t Russian, I seem to recall that there’s this thing called a “permanent member veto”.

Mason

Yet another reason the UN is a fucking joke. Anytime you want a laugh just look at who is on the UN Human Rights Commission.

Sapper3307

Some video game videos are being used as real. We have an A-10 dodging a phalanx gun and others.

Roh-Dog

Saw that. Also footage of fighter aircraft flying in formation, low and slow, in addition to a Tu-160 with another swept wing fighter bomber. 99.9% positive it was air show footage from the approach of an airfield.

Waiting for the Knob Creek footage to work itself into the ‘reporting’.

5JC

I saw some footage of a Mig-29 conducting SEAD next to a residence and babies crying. The Mig looked pretty real.

Roh-Dog

GuardianUK has some footage that purportedly shows a A2A engagement at spitting distance and a number of captured Russia Army.

But in their defense, Ukraine was wearing something provocative and it was after last call…

Av8or33

This is going to get way worse. Putin sees us as trivial and weak, he watches our news and and laughs at the self inflicted stupidity that we obsess about. The PC culture, 32 genders, the changes to our military and the destruction of our history, traditions, and culture, we elected morons to lead us and probably will continue too. So why would he take us seriously? We don’t even take ourselves seriously anymore. What’s really going to stop him from taking whatever he wants? Seriously is the west prepared for or have the will for full scale war in Europe? Russians are deadly serious and much harder people than the west has been producing. I hope I’m wrong but if he decided to attack the NATO Baltic countries I don’t think we will do anything to defend them, our track record with allies since WW2 hasn’t been a good one. Unless we start to take back our own country and vote out the cancer in our government and demand a return to a self reliant, proud and strong America we are in trouble.

Sapper3307

Looks the CIA will be getting a slightly damaged KA-52 attack chopper.

I want to share this quote from LtG Alfonse Mais in charge of the Bundeswehr. “‘In my 41th year of peace-time service, I would not have thought that I would have to experience a war.
‘And the Bundeswehr, the army which I have the honour to command, is standing there more or less empty-handed. The options we can offer the government in support of the (NATO)alliance are extremely limited…
‘We have all seen it coming but were not able to get through with our arguments to draw the consequences after (Russia’s) annexation of Crimea. This does not feel good. I am fed up with it.’

Sounds like he’s hoping to be relieved, or he want’s to quit.

5JC

Germany sent 5000 helmets and the equipment for an FMH to the Ukraine as a show of support. The Mayor of Kiev called it a joke and laughed it off.

Boxing fans may know of the Mayor of Kiev. Vitaly Klitchko and his brother Wladamir were both heavy weight boxing champions of the world late 90s to early 2010s. In their prime they were both amazing fighters; simply dominating and destroying their adversaries until they aged out.

Wladmir took a commission in the Ukrainian Army Reserves last month and is *allegedly* leading partisans conducting hit and run attacks against Russian invaders.

Neither one needed to stay for the fight. Their net worth is reported to be $80M and $90M respectively. Anyone want to take odds on Bill Gates staying to fight when the Chinese invade?

5JC

Oh and he is married too…

rgr769

I doesn’t sound like the Germans will have the ability to recreate the Wehrmacht. If they are the core of Europe’s NATO defense, it is doomed.

And as recently as the last two years Germany was pushing to be in charge of a unified European army.

I have to say I’m surprised since the Soviet Union didn’t make this type of moves. The economic sanctions will only be effective in the long term. Putin must have factored that into his decision, so I see 7-day offensive to destroy Ukraine’s military capabilities, and then scoot back across the border. He’ll work through back channels to install a Pro-Russian government like they had before the Euromaidan Uprising. The West’s obsession with Green Energy played right into Putin’s hands by getting Europe hooked on his gas & oil. Lots of leverage lost being so dependent. The economic sanctions will be minimal as The EU will go back to pre-invasion status before too long.

Ret_25X

huh? the USSR made many such moves. 48 in Poland, 50 in Lithuania, 56 in Hungary, 68 in Czech, 79 in AF. All Bolshevist nations, I would note. The USSR had no need to “invade” Ukraine, of course as it was already inside the USSR.

Russian policy has been aggressive like this since Catherine the Great.

I’ve had to calm down the social media freaks (who unfortunately have spread their fear of WAR to my daughter). I will say this. No US troop will be sent to Ukraine. Ukraine is not part of NATO. The UN will do nothing since Russia is on the Security Council. This will be sanctions, nothing more, and will probably be over in a few weeks. More disheartening, I’ve hear 2nd hand that some military people are claiming they are being sent to Ukraine. Prepare for a whole new slew of SV to grow from this incident.

Well, it looks as if the Biden Administration has announced their “swift and certain” sanctions on Russia for invading the Ukraine.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-not-sanctioning-putin-directly-blocking-russia-from-swift-banking-system

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/harris-biden-sanctions-russia-ukraine-swift

Short version: although by-name sanctions were directed against some other Russian officials and their families, no personal sanctions directed against Putin or his family. Some financial sanctions were imposed on Russia’s banking system. However, the Biden administration made no move to block Russia’s banking system from SWIFT – which might actually have hurt. Sanctions also didn’t target the Russian oil industry.

I’m sure a “strongly worded letter” is to follow.

Looks like ol’ Clueless Joe pounced on Putin and Russia with all the fury of a savage . . . chipmunk.
